Excerpt: The Bloodlords

Malcolm Kane was by many accounts, the best at tracking down and killing vampires. He took the time to work his way into the vampire's court, mingling with other courtiers, learning the layout of the castle. That was why he was still alive. Younger, less experienced men would simply walk into a vampire's castle at night, when their prey was up and about. They would go in with no knowledge of the labyrinth passageways of the castle. Some would get lost, easy prey for the bloodsucking creatures of the night. Others would find the lord of the castle, and be unprepared for the strength of a vampire during the nighttime hours. They would go hunting vampires, looking for fame or notoriety. Fame and notoriety mean very little when you're dead. Malcolm Kane cared very little for fame. He was just trying to do his job. He was an assassin of sorts, killing for money. His clients knew that he was the best, and paid very handsomely for his services. But like fame, money was no good if you were not alive to use it.
