Brief Author Bio:

I began writing dramas for my church when I was eighteen. At this time, everyone started saying, "Hey, you should write a book." I continued writing dramas and readings for my church, as well as several secular poems that make people laugh. In 2004, I attended the Blue Ridge Christian Writer's Conference but lost my focus. Now, I'm interested in writing and publishing my first Christian fiction book. I feel that God is telling me that I've wasted His gifts for long enough. I've been married for four years, I have two dogs, and a warped sense of humor. THIS IS MY FIRST TIME PARTICIPATING IN NANOWRIMO!

Synopsis: To Move Mountains

TO MOVE MOUNTAINS is an Inspirational work of fiction about life, love, and hardship in the 1860's Smoky Mountains.

Cora Proffitt is not your ideal mountain woman. She's an only child, a questionable cook, and has not yet managed to conquer the mysteries of sewing. In addition, Cora has not been blessed with the physical features that might offset her lack of domestic skills.

In danger of becoming the dreaded "Old Maid," Cora reluctantly accepts a marriage proposal from Ambrose Porter, a widower with an uncertain past. Ambrose, bitter over the recent death of his first wife, is hard, cold, and brooding. He stands rooted to his anger, resisting his new wife's desire to be closer to her husband.

Cora fights to learn more about Ambrose, praying that he will see the hope that springs eternal from a mighty God. But does she have enough faith to move the mountain of resentment that has grown inside of her husband?

Excerpt: To Move Mountains

"A soft heart and a sharp mind were Cora’s inheritance from her father. She was never easily duped, only easily wounded."

***
"The sight of Ambrose’s proud head ducking into the doorway of the sunset-lit cabin had caused a hard knot to rise in Cora’s throat. Her heart had felt a lonely sting for the tall, dark man who had just shown them a little spring under his snow."

***
“ 'Aye,' she whispered, 'I sang it for God first and then I tried to sing for the memory of dear Queenie. Yet ain’t fair Queenie shining and happy in that sweet golden land? Hits us that stays behind to shed our tears, to mourn our loved ones, to endure a bitter hurt. So for you Ambrose, for the sorrow you bear and for the hurt that won’t mend, I gave my song to you. I didn’t know until I sang it but as the tune left my mouth, as the music ached in my heart, I knew then why God had written hit on my lips. And so, after the Lord, I sang hit for you.' "

***
“I fought fer Lincoln,” Ambrose shouted, slamming his fist on the mantle piece. “I fought for the Union and I was durn proud to do hit. Is that what you was wantin’ to know? I know folks ‘round here thank I’m some Johnny Reb devil but hit haint true. I fought for the United States because I couldn’t square up with one man ownin’ another man, no matter the color of his skin. And I became a Judas to my people and I’ve been payin’ fer hit ever since.”

***
David paused in the doorway and gave his daughter a sympathetic smile. “Ambrose has a mountain of sorrow and fear in him and that mountain kin be rockier than the one yer standin’ on now. But didn’t our Lord say, ‘Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done?' ”
