Excerpt: Shadowplay

I’ll never forget the first time I laid eyes on her face.

That face! I could spend hours describing it to you. She is, or maybe I should be correct in the tense here, she WAS the most arrestingly beautiful woman I had ever seen in my lifetime. Her pure white skin was almost like porcelain. There were no blemishes on her what so ever. As Ray Davies opined in the song “Art Lover”, “she was a work of art and I should know, because I’m an art lover.”

Loving that face was easy to do. The full, proportionate lips, the incredible cheek bones, and even her perfectly symmetrical eye brows need to be mentioned here. I’m a student of people, but more so when it comes to their actions and reactions over time. Rarely do I remember such detail after laying eyes on somebody just one time. The chin always forward, formed a perfect gateway to her wonderful kissable neck and was the anchor to her angelically triangular shaped face.

But it’s the eyes that are the exclamation point here. The eyes are the window to the soul and these eyes were the most incredible I had ever seen. Blue and green, wide and clear, it was almost like they were two cool pools of aqua marine water inviting you to jump in to refresh yourself on a scorching hot, humid day. There was so much comfort there in those unblinking eyes, waiting for you to take advantage of all that they had to offer. It’s no wonder that I fell in love with her the very first time that I saw her. And even though I had sometimes spent long stretches apart from her, there was never, ever a day that would go by where I wouldn’t think of her and this stunningly attractive face at least a dozen times.
