Brief Author Bio:

This is my first time trying NaNoWriMo (never heard of it before now).

I consider myself a writer, though I've never had a novel published -- yet have written the beginning of a few that sit in an old chest waiting to be discovered after I leave this world. Maybe someone will finish them and give the characters life.

In my various, but harmless, transmogrifications I've freelanced as an entertainment journalist and critic, covering mostly the indie music scene and the occasional mainstream film. I am also a general feature articles writer, scribing on everything from communication theory, luxury goods marketing and job hunting techniques to parenting tips, social media, and health-related issues.

I remember my 5th grade teacher telling me (after I submitted a short story assignment) to "write what you know." My endeavor is to learn as much about everything as I possibly can so no subject is outside my writerly realm. Looks like I'm well on my way.

Synopsis: For Reasons Unknown

David Sparks is finally realizing his dream: His Sarasota, Florida rock band is signed to a major label, set to tour and ready to take the music world by storm. Problem is, his on again-off again relationship with a wanna-be-supermodel seems to be off again, and he has a suicidal teen girl sleeping on his pull-out couch. What’s a budding rock star to do?
"For Reasons Unknown" is the story of one man's search for the Big Answers to the Big Questions: who is he?, what does he want?, and why can't he seem to shake the demons of a conflicted family life he thought he'd left far behind in Leonia, New Jersey with the one girl he let slip away?
Fueled by rock n roll, free-flowing drugs and easy sex, "For Reasons Unknown" traverses a world turned upside down, where the only thing that makes sense is the pulse of the music, the roar of the crowd, and the need to get back home.

Excerpt: For Reasons Unknown

I'm trying to get to sleep when I hear the faint strains of a familiar tune over the radio. In a few quick seconds, I realize it's us. It's the band! It's Enigmatic, and we're on the fucking radio! Unbelievable! The song breaks into my long guitar solo, and I think back in time.
I remember my old man and how he used to lay it on thick about what a worthless shit and total fuck up I was, and how he was glad my mother wasn't alive to see what a complete screw-up her baby son had become. He would constantly drum it in about how her dying of brain cancer, right before my twelfth birthday, was a blessing that God handed down upon her so she wouldn't have to suffer with seeing me throw my life away. That's what he told me almost every day throughout my teens.
I can't blame him, though. I mean, by the time I was fifteen, I was pretty much one big, colossal waste of space. Getting into all sorts of trouble, boozing and doping it up with all the misfit bad-asses in school, I was hell on wheels. Truth was, if I was my own father, I would have kicked my sorry ass to the curb in less than a heartbeat with absolutely no regret or second thoughts. . . .
