Eighth Wonder
an excerpt

A late sea breeze blew through the slightly open window of the room. The faded antique neon light flickered through the smoke-crusted blinds, and JJ found himself focusing on the buzz of the light and Cherry’s breathing. Her breasts shifted with each light wheeze, one pressing into his chest and the other into the air. Her eyes were closed, but a soft sleepy smile had slipped onto her face and refused to leave.

There were moments in his affairs with Cherry that he remembered no matter how far from her arms (or her legs) he might have become. Sure, some of them involved body fluids and expletives and condoms he feared would melt from the heat between them, but he could close his eyes anywhere in the world and imagine that smile, the goose pimples on her breasts from the breeze interacting with the sweat from their passion, and the rhythm of her heartbeat against his chest could easily compete with any rhythm of Hugo or Michael or the Head Parrot himself for the effect they had on him.
