Fall's Steeple
an excerpt

Fire destroyed all. It consumed the world, devouring flora and fauna, turning to ash what it could, melting what it could. Cities fallen, plains wasted, mountains laid bare.

Fire birthed anew. From the ash, the phoenix. From the far reaches life spread back into the wasteland. Humanity returned to the small surviving fragments of civilization, built a life new but not entirely unlike what it had once been. Factory workers became craftsmen, grocers became farmers, secretaries became the new historians, chronicling the old world so future generations could understand that the world was not what it once was. Humanity atoned for its sins but it did not learn from them.

Fire cleansed the earth, cast off the evil and blessed it with tabula rasa. In less than a year, humanity birthed abomination.
