Synopsis: The Secret Dancer
Every dancer has her tales. Her steps weave the words. Her body tells her story.
For generations, the women of Talia's family have lived, loved, and, in their secret moments, danced.
There is the lady of Venice who steals away from the Queen of the Adriatic to travel across continents, always in search of her home. There is the lady of the Imperial Court who escapes death and flees to a paradise of islands in the south. There is the young princess of the Kingdom of Purawanay, who must choose between her husband and a man who awakens her sleeping heart. There is the lady of Manila, who must restrain herself to survive in a young capital grasped by the strong arms of Spanish conquerors.
There is the lady of a revolution, a lady of wars, a lady of a rising republic, and now, a lady who wishes to fight against still strong, still unbendable norms of what constitutes a proper woman.
Talia, a scholar, writer, and poet, much like the thirty-one women who have come before her, has also inherited the gift of dance.
As she unfolds her passions, she also tells the stories of all the women who came before, with their trials and their triumphs; their struggles and their strengths.
There are hidden dances that spin through hundreds of years of journeys, of loss, of mourning, of smiles, and of tears. And as Talia tells the tale, so does she understand how the secret dancer within her survives, and dances still, in the company of shadows.
