Excerpt: My Escape (I am my father's daughter)

It was a sad and depressing day in the Larson household. Melody sat on her bed with her head down and you could tell by her tear stained face she'd been crying.
Her wavy brown hair was tied up so you could see her face.
There would be no makeup today, it would only wash away.
Her room was silent she sat on her bed holding her father's guitar. He had given it to her when he got really sick.

Her father was diagnosed with cancer a year before and a few months ago he stopped responding to the treatment. He told her that he knew she's loved it and appreciates the guitar and the music it makes as much as he did. His father was a musician; he was in a band with three of his best friends they call lived in New York City together. His band The New York City boys were always being booked for gigs and other things so he was always traveling to New York.
