Excerpt: Evil Wins...
-
Samantha jumped as a scream came from behind the counter.
"Oh my god!"
The waiter ran to the kitchen from behind the counter. He was holding his left hand with his right and Samantha was sure she saw a trail of blood behind him. She could hear a flood of apologizes and concerns for the waiter's hand. She looked at Sage, sitting across from her in the booth. He was already trying to hide his laughter from the employees.
"What did she do?"
"Not sure, but I know she hurt his hand."
"Anyone could have figured that one out, Sage."
"Then why did you ask?"
Samantha threw a half and half container at him. He dodged and it went flying by the lady's head behind him.
"That is it! I will not have any more of those stupid containers flying at me! I WANT THEM KICKED OUT!"
"You know lady, this is why we ask for our own section. Everyone always bitches about us, but they never do what we ask."
"You little smart mouth, don't talk to me like that. Who do you think you are?"
"I'm Sage."
"Why do you think you are so important?"
" 'Cause he's Sage."
The lady's daughter started turning red. She motioned to her mom to stop, but her mom ignored her. The girl looked completely horrified as her mother kept on. She finally couldn't take it any more.
"MOM!!!!"
Everyone in the restaurant stopped to look at the red faced girl and her mother. The onlookers watched the mother's face fall from anger to shock.
"Baby, what's wrong?"
"Mom, stop embarrassing me in front of him!"
The mother looked from her daughter to the man she had been yelling at.
"What is so important about him?"
"He's the drummer for Mitzi's Fish!"
The mother continued to look at both her daughter and the man with disbelief.
"Your daughter is right. Guess what else?! We're really loud and kind of obnoxious and we're not going anywhere, but if you want we'll sign autographs."
Samantha laughed and pointed at the mother. She pulled something from the backpack with her and handed it to the girl. The girl looked at it and her eyes lit up with excitement. Samantha had handed her a copy of their new cd that hadn't been released yet. She pointed at the CD."
"Shh, don't share those online yet!"
The mother sat down in complete disbelief still. Across the room from them was a table of drunk guys. There were three of them stretched out across the booths, eyes like slits barely peeking out from underneath their signature baseball hats. Their words were only comprehendible to each other. Random drunk words would come loudly from the table of guys.
"Samantha, did you have to give her the CD?"
"Please, it's one CD and I knew it would shut her mom up."
"Where are John and Chris?"
"I don't know, probably drunk somewhere in a corner."
"SHREAM!"
"I'm so glad you believe in those two that much."
Samantha shrugged her shoulders and smiled as innocently as she knew how. Samantha pointed towards the door. Sage turned around to see John and Chris stumble towards their table. John's signature hair fell in his face as he made his first attempt to sit down. He didn't quite make it and fell butt first in front of everyone at the restaurant.
"MAFOCR!"
John had a little better luck with sitting when Samantha helped him to sit in the booth. Chris toppled over into the booth with Sage. He would have stayed there if Sage hadn't of sat him up. Samantha nodded to Sage.
"At least they aren't that bad"
She was pointing at the booth of drunk guys. They had passed out on top of each other in the booth. Sage cracked a smile and then Samantha could almost watch his horns growing. Sage picked up a handful of half and half and threw it at the drunk guys' table. One fell under the table and another grabbed the still sleeping one. The tables and booths, previously tormented by the drunken stupor, erupted in applause.
"Hey, idiots, restaurants aren't for sleeping."
The drunk guys got up and stumbled towards Sage, mumbling incoherent rants. When Sage realized exactly what they were planning on doing he pushed Chris onto the floor and got out of the booth.
"Man, you can't, you can't throw shit at....um, me."
"Like you are really in a position to do anything about it."
The one drunk guy that seemed to either be the leader or the least drunk one tried to shove Sage, but kind of fell on him.
"Man, you're too drunk to do the talking part of a fight. Go back to your table and shove off."
The guy swung at Sage and hit him in the jaw. He only reached his jaw because he swung up and he was so much shorter than Sage. Samantha shook John and kicked Chris.
"Hey guys, there's a fight. Some guy just hit Sage."
John looked like he was about to join the effort, but he fell down on the floor on top of Chris. The guy that hit Sage turned to tell the other guys to join. The other two drunks stumbled forward and started drunkenly punching at him. Samantha sighed.
"Damn, Sage. Do I always have to bail your ass out?"
Samantha crawled out of the booth and over the pile of her band mates in order to help Sage, who was punching one of the drunk guys in the stomach. The other two guys were punching Sage, but it didn't appear to be hindering his punching too much. Samantha pulled one of the drunk guys off of Sage and pulled him up to her face. He looked at her and stopped his swing towards her head. She smiled.
"Should have kept swinging."
Samantha let go of him with her right hand and punched the side of his head. The guy Sage wasn't already punching ran towards Samantha in an attempt to avenge his friend, but was met with a boot in the crotch. He fell to his knees and grabbed himself. They both recovered enough to try and take Samantha, but there were other tables stepping into the fight. A bigger guy that had been sitting in the booth behind the drunk guys was grabbing crotch boy by the shoulders to pull him up.
"Don't you know you aren't supposed to hit a lady."
"Thats no lady, she kicked me."
The bigger guy punched crotch boy in the face and tossed him back on the ground. He smiled at Samantha and then grabbed the guy Sage had and knocked him to the floor. The manager of the restaurant had called the cops at the first swing at Sage's face and the police had arrived. The manager directed them to the pile of drunk guys on the floor and explained the situation. Sage and Samantha and the bigger guy that helped them were all ticketed for fighting in public and had to pay fines. The cops threw the three drunk guys into the squad cars and inquired about the other two guys on the floor. The manager told them he wasn't sure what had happened with them, but assured the cops they weren't involved. One of the officers shook John to ask him a question, but smelled the liquor on his breath. He gave them tickets for public intoxication. The cops left and Samantha walked over to the booth where the bigger guy was sitting.
"Thank you so much sir for helping us out. I'd like to pay the fine for you."
"No, I couldn't let you, I kinda enjoyed myself."
"Please, sir. We'd really like to help you out. You helped us, we'll help you."
"If you want to help me out, could you autograph something for me. My daughter loves you guys and she would really like that."
"What's her name?"
"Jenny."
Samantha walked back to their booth and grabbed her backpack. She pulled out another copy of their CD and signed the inside cover. She woke John and Chris up long enough to get signatures out of them. She handed the CD to Sage, who also signed the inside cover. He handed the CD to the bigger guy and smiled.
"Here's a copy of our new CD, addressed to Jenny, signed by all of us."
The bigger guy smiled.
"She's gonna love this. You guys are so nice to do this."
"You were so nice to help, it's the least we can do."
