Synopsis: Superwhat?
Every kid dreams of being a superhero. But would they really be able to handle it if they were?
16 year old Dominique Vasquez discovers she is part of an ancient line of heroes, and that the weight of the world will be resting on her shoulders. Will she be able to take on the responsibility of a hero? Or will the world find itself in a danger it hasn't known in centuries?
Excerpt: Superwhat?
Every kid dreams that one day, they’ll grow up to be a super hero. That someone will come tell them they were meant for something huge, or something will happen that gives them superpowers. But what they often overlook is the responsibility that comes with it.
Once you become a ‘superhero’, once you make that step to accepting that title, you take on the responsibility of the lives of others. You accept the responsibility to be there whenever you’re needed, and to go the extra mile, keeping an eye out for things that are going down before they have the chance to call you. It’s knowing that the moment you put your life ahead of theirs, people are going to suffer, and they’re going to die.
I was like that once – naïve to what being a hero meant. I longed for the super powers, the cool outfits, the respect. More than anything, I will admit, I longed for the chance to have men falling at my feet because I was just so fabulous. Oh, if I had only known.
I once had everything, though I thought I had nothing. I had a life, I had no responsibilities. I was, for better or worse, your typical 16 year old girl. But that all changed. Now, I pass on my tale to you, in hopes that it will help you in your journey of taking the weight of the world on your shoulders.
The one thing you always need to remember, is that it doesn’t matter how many bad guys you kill or put in jail, and it doesn’t matter how many evil plots you foil. What matters is the amount of innocent lives you save, the people you give lives back to.
