Dee chuckled and patted the top of Bea's bright blue hair. “Kittens in peril.”

Bea blinked at that comment, even as she fell into step behind Dee. “Say wha?”

“Kittens in peril.” Dee repeated.

“Still don't get it.”

The man chuckled and stopped in front of the van door. “Do you remember those motivational posters with the little kitten clinging for dear life to a tree branch, a window, or some other object to keep from falling?”

Bea nodded. “Of course, you couldn't make it through grade school without seeing a few of them. What does that have to do with--oh."

Dee smiled. “See? Kittens in peril. It's a lot more fun to say that than hang in there. Don't you think? If nothing else it sounds a lot cooler.”
