We're always looking for help with a host of Office of Letters and Light projects! Our current needs include:
1. Web Developer/Systems Administrator (post date: November 17, 2009)
This is a part-time (20 hours/week) position, and duties would be shared with our existing Web Developer/Sys Admin, a very tall man named Dan. The applicant must be available to spend at least 10 of the 20 hours/week working in our downtown Oakland office. Exact times worked are flexible.
We're looking for a highly experienced and disciplined web developer to help us implement new features and debug existing ones. Experience with PHP is required but a firm understanding of all core web technologies is just as important. If you spend your nights debugging HTTP by candlelight, that’s a little odd, but we’d love to speak with you. Experience with Drupal is a plus, as is experience with other languages and frameworks such as Ruby or Python, Rails/Merb, or Django.
Since we’re such a lean outfit, we require someone who can also fulfill system needs and assist with office-infrastructure maintenance and troubleshooting. An intimate understanding of *nix systems is a must. Preferably you traverse the command-line daily and can’t wait to show off your Bash/CSH/Perl/Ruby/Python one-liners. Experience with Debian Linux, and Amazon EC2 or other virtualized environments is a plus.
About our Stack and Infrastructure
Amazon EC2 running custom-built Debian AMIs
Squid, Apache, MySQL 5.1, Memcached, Postfix
PHP 5, Drupal 5 with custom modules and themes
Git
How to Apply
If you are interested in working with us, please send your salary requirements, along with a resume and cover letter with background about yourself and your work to: jobs@lettersandlight.org. Code samples will be cherished.
2. Web design and graphic design volunteers. Are you a professional designer interested in donating some of your time to help out with cool Script Frenzy and NaNoWriMo projects? We need you! Include a few samples of your work or a link to a website when you write us. Drop us a line.
3. Bay Area Office of Letters and Light volunteers! We are always looking for dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers to help us in the office and out at Bay Area events. If you live in the area, believe in our programs, and would like to join the OLL volunteer list, let us know by emailing us. Please include a brief description about yourself, the hours you would be available to help, and why you would be a great OLL volunteer.
Also, we're on the lookout for the following items!
- Three laptops with internet capabilities and good, strong batteries for our internship program
- More items on our Amazon Wish List!
Thanks for your help!
