There's always a place on every forum for people to say hello and announce that the Wrimo crown will be theirs. As the official lead novelist (and non-ML, tyvm) from last year, I do believe that it is my evostic prerogative to utilize massively verbose rhetoric, not only to disguise a lack of actual interpretive content but also to create, by spate of words and exceptional misuse of Roget's contribution to the written concept, a welcome of proper NaNoWriMo proportions to all and sundry.
In 2005, Maryland ranked in at the #1 writing locale in the world; last year saw us in 4th place. This year, I declare my goals (in no particular order) as follows:
- Put Maryland back on top, #1 in the world
- Properly school certain upstart Wrimos in some state down south (*cough* Lushguins *cough*)
- Exceed last year's output in total number of words
- Have a boatload of fun!
Part of that last goal involves everyone else in the Maryland Wrimo community. So I am extending (via this forum string) the opportunity for each of us to publicly announce the following:
- Name
- Novel title (if known or suspected)
- Noveling genre
- Word count goal
- Location in the great state of Maryland
- Number of years NaNoing/Number of years won
Simple enough, I think! As an example:
- Name: Caeraerie (John)
- Novel title (if known or suspected): Avatar's Dreaming and Twice Bitten, Once Dead
- Noveling genre: AD-fantasy/scifi, TBOD-police procedural
- Word count goal: More than Soluna (last year she wrote 201,000 words)
- Location in the great state of Maryland: Baltimore City, Overlea area
- Years done NaNo/Years won: 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 / Won 2004, 2005, and 2006!
En Avaunt!
Caeraerie

Welcome back, John - was wondering when Maryland's noveling stud (note he once again plans on TWO novels, probably to his wife's chagrin!) would post!
1. punahougirl84 - Lee
2. My novel title will have two words, as all my others have had, but have no clue when it will come to me
3. Genre will be a cross of sf/f/ but adding an erotic element (I'm shooting for publication this time around!)
4. My goal is between 50K and 69,999 (the official length of novels for the publisher being about 45K-70K)
5. I reside in Columbia, MD
6. Participated in 2004/05/06/and now 07, won every year so far!
Of MAJOR note - at this time, nothing shows "Home" regions - you can affiliate, get email, but so far there is nothing to indicate one region you choose as your Home region. I don't know what is up with that, and plan to ask once I identify the correct forum for that.
I've also been posting about things like formatting posts, the lack of quick reply box, and pretty much anything else I noted that was buggy or missing, in the Site Feedback forum. So far, my sig and pic seem to be working...
Regardless of how things work out, I know Maryland is a veritable hothouse of writing enthusiasm and literary logorrhea!
Best wishes to all!
Lee

I should mention the title is because today I had a total epiphany about my 2005 NaNovel (which I didn't finish) and why it sputtered out and what I could do to make it work but also requires about a complete re-write using the same idea and characters and little else. Hah. So I think I'm going to do that. Because I really want to finish it.
Also, I may or may not be an ML. I'm not sure at the moment. Oops? I will, however, be hosting at least one write-in a week regardless, up near Glen Burnie as usual.

Tried twice
Succeeded once
Last year I tried to write a sort of romance novel, with a murderous twist. It didn't work out to well because the murderous part was way too small, and I only got to 15,000 words. In 2005, the novel I wrote was full of action and suspense, so this year I'm going to do that again. How? I'm writing a sequel to that novel.
I really hope I can do it again this year. I already know several of my characters, so they'll be easy to write, but the story is very different this time.
I also need a new title, because II or 2 don't work for novels. I was thinking of something along the lines of "The Last Survivors" or something, but I don't want to imply that it's the last novel in the series. I might come up with an idea for a third part some day.

An ML is Municipal Liason, folks who know the ropes and are willing to take time from their own NaNo schedules to organize write-ins, kick-off get togethers, word wars online etc. I'm not even sure what all their duties are, probably a lot more than we ever see.
As for what to do with us fello MD/DC nano-ers? Well, we're a support system for each other, online and in person if you make it to any write-ins. A write-in is a get together, usually at a coffeeshop or restaurant or bookstore, where a bunch of nano-ers get together, consume mad amounts of coffee and attempt to up their word count. They've never been much help in upping word count for me, I get distracted too easily when writing anywhere but home, but they're awesome for commiserating with others going through exactly what you are. Misery loves company after all!

Tamara, one thing I can recommend is reading through this site (I know, it is slow going right now - just do the best you can!). Much of what you want to know can be found under the gray tabs such as About and FAQs. Technically, you need nothing more than paper and a pencil to do NNWM, though typing makes it easier to upload your novel to be verified and result in cool jpegs and a certificate saying you did it!
Everything else is extra. The forums allow us to have a support network for help, information, inspiration, encouragement, motivation, and even occasionally to vent about our characters/plot/etc. MLs moderate the forums, send out messages, maintain the regional calendar of events, orchestrate regional dares and challenges, organize Kick-off parties, write-ins, volunteers, TGIO parties, and in general do their best (despite their own families, jobs, and noveling efforts) to help everyone in their region achieve the awesome goal of writing a 50K novel in 30 days.
We try to have a lot of fun while doing it too!
We spend our time and often our money in pursuit of these efforts and goals, just because we want to... and the time is what costs us the most.
Maryland had no ML in 2004, when I first signed up, so I volunteered and have functioned as ML ever since. MD has been fortunate to have others volunteer since then (which made a big difference as I had baby twins, and then a surprise baby, and was unable to drive great distances). We remain one region so we don't have to split into several small forums - we are not a huge region and we like to write/commiserate together!
Please feel free to email me (columbia_mdATnanowrimoDOTorg) with any other questions you have been unable to get answered. Good luck - this really is an amazing experience!

Great job John (as always), so here goes!
1) Tidewaterbound (Carol --- Co-ML covering the Eastern Shore of Maryland)
2) Um, last year I was, err, ready with that -- no novel title as of yet, currently juggling 3 ideas
3) Same as above.. could be a mystery, fantasy, or humor (okay, I'm diverse if nothing else)
4) Word count-- 50,000 minimum--and if I don't get bogged down by Thanksgiving, I'm shooting for 75,000+
5) Eastern Shore of Maryland, you know, "The Land of Pleasant Living" --LOL
6) I've been doing NanoWrimo since 2001, finished all but 2002--currently the profile won't let you opt out of one of them so it's WRONG. But then, it still shows I 'signed up Oct 2, 2002'--happened to a lot of us.
---------------
I'm looking forward to this year as the best yet. Maryland has some of the best, brightest, and most prolific. I'm here to tell you I want us to regain our 2005 title.

Hello All:
Name: asholl79 aka Anna
Working Title: Hmmm, well, I'm new at this and have yet to develop a title
Genre: hard to define at this point, but I'll let you know when I have some more hard core ideas
Word Count Goal: 50,000, really want to win
Location: Baltimore, technically Rosedale/White Marsh area
Question to those who have won in the past:
I am naturally a procrastinator, and I have done little prep work, though I have a ton of ideas rolling around in my head. So my question is how much prep work did you complete prior to the November 1st starting line?
