HI Guys-
I'm stepping in early to just make sure that we have all the logistics ready for making this the most fantastic SA Nanowrimo EVER!!
What we need from you -
-Tell us what area you are from- so that we can co ordinate meets and get togethers- Nanowrimo always starts off with a blast off party in the centers where there are enough writers - If we dont know that you are here, we dont get to include you in all the fun activities
- Let us know if you are keen to have meets in your area- if there is no ML to co ordinate- we can still hook you up with writers in your neighbourhood.
_ PLEASE! Try and attend meets/ us ML's also take time away from our families to try and make this as fun and interesting as possible- please assist us by letting us know if you can make it to a meet and also if you cant attend. Most venues need an idea of numbers before we can book them.
- try and get as many of your writerly friends to join in- the more the merrier!! We have a Nanowrimo South africa group on facebook- so if you have access - please join- http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6044061582
There also seems to be another nanowrimo *general group* - please make sure you join the SA one- otherwise it defeats the purpose of trying to keep our wrimos together.
- be part of the forums- all the support and writerly love and motivation you will ever need will be right here at the click of a mouse. Nanowrimo is about developing community.
- Please give us suggestions on what we could do to make Nanowrimo more fun and relevant to our South African context-
We welcome your input!
cheers-
Fiona

Does anyone know if there are flyer/poster things this year?
I know there were last year, but try as I might I can't find them on the new site.
On saffricanizing nano, we could, um braai?

There are posters and thingies in the ML area. We're allowed to forward those to other members if they want to stick a couple up in their area, right Immoline?
As for meets, I can do PTA and I -might- be able to make JHB if it's over a weekend and someone holds my hand cause I will 100% get lost (I have the worst sense of direction ever, seriously).
I will most definitely be part of the forums. You can't get rid of me if you tried.

Ah. Is that what happened? Silly.
I was thinking of maybe putting some up in my library . . .
It's in walking distance and they have like a big board thing just inside for notices & stuff like that.
I'm definitely up for whatever meets this year, so long as I can convince someone to take me.
I'm also hoping for my Script-Frenzy partner to sign-up . . . I think she caught the bug. :)

I could possibly stick up some flyers in our local library - I'm just not sure how many people would take part from Humansdork, I mean Humansdorp.
It might be a waste of advertising.
*sigh* Eastern Cape, where are the rest of you?

moonblue waves furiously (cos it is really cold and this might warm me up) I am trying to round up writers in Grimstoon (sorry Grahamstown, for now at least) but so many people are writing exams, marking exams, or will have finished with exams and have evacuated the city. Once it stops raining I will put up a few more posters, having already harrassed almost everyone I know with emails. I just don't get why everyone isn't immediately enthusiastic about this amazing and cool concept.

Hey You, Moonblue!
:-D
How are we going to get Grimstoon closer to Humansdork? Why is the Eastern Cape so BIG?
I hope SAShirl is going to plaster PE full of flyers. We have GOT to get the EsCape on the map.

Ooh, braaiing sounds like a plan. XD Find a nice open area... like Zoo Lake or Emmarentia (in Joburg) and braai! Maybe no writing gets done (but how much writing gets done at the write-ins anyway?), but it's a great way to get together and motivate one another. ^_^

i am in lakeside, cape town.
i am ok with travelling to meets, more-or-less regardless of where they are.
i have no friends. and thus no writerly ones i can draw upon to add to the pile. ;)
i'll be around on the forums, though forums aren't typically my modus operandi.
regarding fun and south african, i'm not sure nanowrimo's one of those things you can "southafricanify." however, the braai suggestion was pretty good. i'm fairly happy with anything we do. i enjoyed myself last year at the thank god it's over meeting, so...

Am I going crazy or just not seeing straight? I don't see any member list tab or search engine on the front page. I've just recruited a newbie: BLUNT1 and asked her to pop in here and say hello.

I think they took down the search to keep the site running smoothly.

there is none, shirls. it drove me mad. I wanted to add a buddy and i wasted half an hour of my time figuring out who to do that. eventually I just had to get her ID no and open up a new page to view her profile. try that! get her to give you the url for her profile.

The search function should be back up- but watch for site slowness over the next day or two.
