So here's my idea:
Setting: Alternate universe of Earth. The time is futuristic yet the cities recall the 1920s. There are telephones and electricity, but no cars. Portals to other worlds/universes have been discovered, and the technology to control/protect them has been invented, but yet space travel does not exist. Throughout the book the characters will encounter different time periods, come into contact with fantasy creatures and explore other planets through the use of these portals.
I have no plot, but more importantly I have no genre!!
What do I call this? Is it Science Fiction? Fantasy? History? Some combination?
Help!

Alternate universes usually fall into sci fi in my mind. Sometimes they're called "alternate histories" too. Maybe you could file under sci fi and call it alternate universe fiction.
Your turn to help me.
Cops and robbers, break ins, jewel thefts, cons, car chases, betrayals...action/adventure or thriller?

Hmmmm...I would say action/adventure or maybe crime. Thriller to me usually seems to have a scary element to it. Not quite horror, but sitll vaguely unsettling.

I think action/adventure for sure. To me, crime isn't as much of a genre as it is a vague description (Or possibly a sub-genre).
I'm doing Macbeth. But with zombies.
To clarify further, the characters themselves aren't zombies (yet), but there is an impending zombie war looming, and at some early point in the plot, they will interfere, throwing the story off.
I'm not sure if this qualifies as historical fiction or not ....
