I hope you all have a most grand one! We celebrate ours a day early, and after dinner was over and the moms shooed me out of the kitchen because I was more a hindrance doing dishes than a help I wrote another 3000 while the men were watching Family Guy and crossed the finish line. Hope you all make the most of this lovely day! Be thankful for friends, family, and word counts. ^_^

Apparently this has been discussed, but I wanted to share mine cuz it ROCKS! And I want to hear yours, so I can listen to your songs and become more cultured of a person! Or something like that. XD

Sky Starts Falling (Doves): Ironically enough, this would be right before and during the actual falling of the first piece of Sky, when Marla's in the weather tower and Zeal/James/Arabelle are all in the Navi-Tech building watching it

Skyway Avenue (We The Kings): The song that inspired my novel! For Zeal and Marla's final trip up to the Skyway where they have a trippy chase and battle to stop James from destroying the Sky, the dragons, and the city of Avalon!

Not My Time (3 Doors Down): When Trae, Marla, and Cordell are escaping Navi-Tech, and someone makes the ultimate sacrifice. T_T

Umbrella (All Time Low): When Zeal finds the courage to get on Marla's motorbike at last and drives it to the weather tower, which is collapsing!

High of 75 (Relient K): Kinda during the middle, where people are talking and stuff is happening! Cuz Marla's a weatherwoman. Whoot.

Listen to the Rain (Evanescence): When Zeal goes home after hearing Arabelle betrayed him. T_T

Goodnight Gravity (Falling Up): During Zeal and Marla's first trip into the Skyway. Whee!

The Dragon Hunter Theme Song (The Cure): Kinda a final theme when they all have their happy ending!

Losing steam, seeking inspiration

I started off pretty well this month... but I'm already losing momentum. I am just feeling really uninspired and unmotivated to write. So I thought I'd ask: What do you do to get the creative juices flowing? Not plot bunnies and challenges... it's not that my novel is feeling boring or in a rut, it's just that I don't feel like writing. So what do you do to get in the creative mood? Is there a certain place you like to go, or a particular activity that gets those mental gears turning?

Get this! I was watching Jeopardy Teen Challenge yesterday (Nov 13) when Alex Trebeck said sedately to one of the contestants, "I hear you are involved in something called the National Novel Writing Month. What is it?" (or something to that effect). She must have been a little stressed out competing on Jeopardy AND NaNoWriMo because it took her awhile to get an answer out. But Hey--we got national exposure on network TV. Woo--hoo!!

I found this on the NaNoWriMo Facebook page, and thought I'd pass it on. It works really really well to help you write several hundred words in a hurry without stopping. (I would advise using "Normal" mode rather than "Kamikaze" though, because it will erase your words if you don't type. I prefer the visual/aural punishment over loosing precious words.)

A Cool Coincidence and the Power of Nanowrimo

I work in a call center for AT&T. I spoke yesterday to a woman calling in to move her telephone and internet service. She stressed the importance of her computer because she was a writer and desperately needed to NOT be without her computer. I casually asked her what she wrote (in terms of genre) and then even more casually asked if she had ever heard of Nanowrimo. She started laughing because she was and is a participant. Being the consummate professional, I took care of her telecommunications business first and then spent extra time visiting. It was the first time for me discussing Nanowrimo with someone who was not a family member, friend, or from the Wichita area.

There is now an "official" calendar, since MLs were nudged toward making one. I am aware that not everything may be factually accurate yet, but I'll get it there. In the meantime, it exists, so if you want something put on it, please shoot me an email or post here, and I'll update it.
We could actually keep up a writing group after November if you all want to. We had one going for a couple months after NaNoWriMo last year, but it kind of petered off.

NaNo-Ween Write-In!

I'd offered to host this in one of the other threads, but I thought I'd go ahead and make the official announcement and invitation now, while I'm thinking about it. Today has already proven that this week will be extra-insane, so I can't be guaranteed to remember. LOL!

WHAT: NaNo-Ween Party and Write-In
WHEN: Friday, October 31st, from about 9 p.m. to about 12:30 a.m. (or anytime in between)
WHO: Wichita NaNo-Writers
WHERE: Rage's House

I will supply fixin's for quesadillas, chips & salsa, and a cooler full of soda. (If anybody wants diet, please let me know in your RSVP, otherwise I'll just have a mix of regular ones.) Other stuff, I'll leave up to you all to bring if you like (cookies, veggie tray, whatever).

I will also have plenty of extension cords and power strips for plugging in laptops. I can arrange to have one or two extra laptops if necessary, so please let me know in your RSVP if you don't have a laptop and would like to borrow one. Subsequently, if you have an extra laptop to bring, please let me know!

I do not, currently, have wireless internet access but I might - just might - have a wireless modem to borrow. If not, my desktop is wired in and can be used in a pinch. I'll look into borrowing that wireless one if there's a big demand for it.

I figure we'll have some good eats, play some fun word games (I have Apples to Apples and Huggermugger), and at the stroke of midnight we'll all open our laptops and start writing! I think planning on a solid 30 minutes of writing is an admirable goal at that hour, don't you?

HOUSE RULES

1. I do have a pet snake. He is non-venomous and in a cage, but if there are any seriously herpi-phobic people out there, I can move him to a closed room for the party. Otherwise, he'll just sit there and stare at us.

2. I do have a dog. Dingo is also non-venomous but not in a cage. However, he has early-stage kidney disease so while you can love on him all you want, he is on a special diet and cannot have any treats or people-food. :( I also foster cats for a local rescue, but the cats are all confined to a separate room. I say this mainly for those who might be allergic.

3. This party will be alcohol-free, as it looks like we will probably have some under-21s in attendance and an arrest would seriously impeded our word count. However, I think a toast with some sparkling grape juice might be neat at around 11:50 p.m. Whaddaya think?

4. This party will also be smoke-free indoors, as per Rage's rental agreement. If you really want a smoke, I'll have butt-pots on the front and back porches.

5. If you want specific music, bring your iPod or CD or whatever. We'll plug it in and crank it up...but not too loud, because the neighbors have little kids.

That's all I can think of. If you want to attend, just RSVP in this thread. Less than 2 weeks til Nano 2008!!!!!

Hi everyone. Did anyone else stay up to start writing at midnight? How did it go? This is my first Nano and I am psyched. Before I knew it, I wrote 2,167 words. I decided to call it a night once I saw the time. Whew...now I just need to find a way to come down from the caffeine and candy bars. :) I plan to write some more later today, but we'll see.

Outline or no outline?

I would just like to hear what everyone else is doing for their novel, outline or no outline. I chose to wing it through this whole thing, but I am not sure if I did the right thing. I would like to hear from people in the group who has used an outline and people that are working with no outline just to compare and see if one way is better than the other.

My name is Carrie and this is my first Nano... I am really excited to be participating this year and am hoping to be able to attend a couple of the write-in's . To go anywhere in Wichita, I need to set aside about an hour to get to wherever I am going. Ideally I would like to find some people either near Hutch or willing to go to Maize for a write in. Maybe we can even get it on the Wichita calender of events.
