I'm about to post a challenge to Adelaide, so I thought I should start a thread here where all and sundry can begin cheering/taunting one another. (Should you wish to taunt them, the challenge to Adelaide can be found here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/1015268 )
Of course, we're going to be kicking butt...
Oh, and for those who might be new to this, here are the awards we're competing for:
- The "We Are The Champions" Award goes to the region with the most winners.
- The "We Are Also The Champions" Award goes to the region with the highest percentage of winners (take the number of winners and divide by the number of people who signed up).
- The Carpal Tunnel Award goes to the region that writes the most words in total.
- The Loquacious Grandeur Award goes to the region with the highest average number of words written (take the total words written and divide by the number of people who signed up). This is calculated twice: once including people who did not post a word count and once excluding them.
- The "Everybody Gets An Award" Award goes to any region who has not already won an award. In the spirit of NaNoWriMo, every region who participates will be a winner!

Here's a thought. Adelaide is 15.5 hours ahead of Saskatchewan. There were 153 people registered to Adelaide last count. So before you can even start writing, we'll already have a combined total of 2371.5 hours of writing in. That's over three months worth. But don't feel bad, I'm sure you'll make it up at the end while we're partying. The important thing is not to feel discouraged, right? Even if you're doing badly, try not to dwell on those 2371.5 hours.

You've put in a lot of effort so it's only fair I address some of these points. I must say, your personal hygeine is second to none. Unless you're dividing it by all the people from Saskatchewan.
You can cut this down to 2 minutes. Rockmelon is a type of melon, and a root is the part of a plant that is underground. You can learn the other words if you want to be an inbred redneck who lives in a high-crime suburb, or make a living exporting stereotypes to the USA for fun and profit. (Mostly fun.)
I like this one. Ten hours of snickering.
Good luck with that. You'll spend 59 minutes and 55 seconds longer than I ever have trying to eat that revolting brewery sludge.

These are all things we save for the tourists. You know, I've never seen Foster's for sale in Australia. We drink Coopers, or Victoria Bitter, or Boags, or a variety of other beers that actually taste nice. I'm told Foster's doesn't taste very good, so we send it overseas to people who don't know any better.
Ah, good old Steve Irwin. Making up for the 20,000,000 Australians who don't talk like that.
I looked it up. I can't say I entirely understand, but I support your right to pursue any fetish of your choosing.
I'm guessing that's soccer. No one here follows it much, except once every four years when we need reminding of how bad the refereeing is. Speaking of sporting victories, I still have some fond remembrance catching up to do on every Commonwealth Games for the past 20 years.
If you're guzzling, and it takes you 6 minutes, my advice: don't get in a drinking contest with an Australian.

Soooooooo yeeeeeeah. About those 2524.5 hours. You've done a great job with the timetable, I don't want you to feel like you've failed already. But the 2524.5 hours of Adelaide head start doesn't mean Saskatchewanians will have that much combined advantage at the end of November, since there are less than 153 people registered to your region. IIRC there were about 64 people registered to Saskatchewan last time I looked, giving you closer to 1000 hours at the end of the month. But don't feel bad, okay? You tried and that's what's important. Or at least a good frame of mind to get in to. And you'll have very clean hands and teeth.

I have my eye on the clock and as the sounds of the Daily Show start in the background I will be starting my novel. With Glee and Abandon.
Then tomorrow I get to be a part of our democratic processes. I am hoping for story material ,as well a few minutes here and there to write.
I was told to bring a book. So if there is time to read there is time to write.

There's less than 45 minutes until NaNoWriMo starts, and here's what I've done in the last few hours:
- watched and recorded videos onto DVD
----------- read the week 1 chapter of No Plot? No Problem!
- brushed my teeth
- discussed how my boyfriend should organize his garage
- cleaned up the kitchen
- worried about whether or not I'll get the job
- ate a lazy person's supper
- put away the laundry
- gave out handfuls of Rockets to trick-or-treaters
- assembled all my paper novelling resources in the computer room
- pondered how to begin my novel
- drank some water
- gave my godson a big hug and kiss when he came to visit in his puppy-dog costume
- gave my boyfriend numerous hugs and kisses (he deserves it)
- shut off the lights to conserve energy
- went to the bathroom (twice) and washed hands (twice)
- smiled at knowing we will soon begin our slaughter of the novelists of Adelaide!
