Why you do Nano: I use Nano as an excuse to tell everyone "Shut up and leave me alone, I'm writing!". It's the time of year that I stop and devote as much time as I can to what I want to write, and I have the support and fellowship of the Nano community.

What you are looking forward to the most this year: I am looking forward to meeting my characters, the challenge of being a ML, as well as getting to know more people. I've been looking forward to this all year long and I'm excited that it's here.

What you think your biggest challenges will be: Time management. I work a lot of hours, and I have family and friends, as well as a novel to write. But hey, Starbucks needs all my money right?

Something funny about yourself: I used to think there were tiny men in the TV making it work.

Favorite Color: Pink

Main Character's Name: I'm still thinking about this.. But I think I have to go with Macy.

Thanksgiving Plans: I have to work! Nano! AND cook! It'll be fun (at least that's what I keep telling myself).

* Name: Brian.
* Location: Capitol Hill.
* Why you do Nano: Because when I was nine years old I decided I was going to be a writer when I grew up, and I kept believing that all the way to college when I finally discovered that writing was harder than I thought and I stopped writing. Oh, and also a writer once told me that I was good at it.
* What you are looking forward to the most this year: I'm granting myself the freedom to not create a plot if I don't want to.
* What you think your biggest challenges will be: Finishing without having to have any 20,000-word weekends.
* Something funny about yourself: There's nothing funny about me. I'm bland and uninteresting, but not so uninteresting to be odd or even noteworthy. Nope, nothing funny at all. Don't laugh. I'm not funny. Don't even smile. I see you. Stop it.
* Favorite Color: Oh, you know. Green or something.
* Main Character's Name: No idea. Not even sure if it'll be male or female.
* Thanksgiving Plans: I have to travel home to my folks, so I'll be not writing for at least one full day. I hope to be ahead of schedule before then.

Name: Stephanie
Location: While I'm currently in Bellingham and will be writing (hopefully) most of my novel up here, I'm originally from Bremerton and will work on my novel two weekends there.
Why you do Nano: Because it's fun! Also, I like the challenge.
What you are looking forward to the most this year: Winning for the first time. Believe it.
What you think your biggest challenges will be:
Football is distracting. Hopefully not too distracting.
Something funny about yourself: I follow the Seahawks religiously. Which I guess isn't that funny, to me, but it amuses my friends.
Favorite Color: Pink! Green is fun, too, though.
Main Character's Name: Ari is the girl. Lyndol is the guy.
Thanksgiving Plans: Eating real food! And writing, of course. ("I know I came home to spend time with you guys...but I really don't want to spend time with you right now...")

Name: M. Redd (if you come to some write ins, you might get to know my actual name)
Location: Unincorporated King County, but served by Woodinville Post Office
Why you do Nano: Because I love writing and it makes me actually do it
What you are looking forward to the most this year: Getting it done
What you think your biggest challenges will be: a challenging school schedule and a part-time job at the same time.
Something funny about yourself: Memorable things about me: I have played the violin since before I remember, but I'm not that good. I have played the piano since I was eight. I am a competitive Irish dancer (and my NanoNovel this year is an Irish dancing mystery-like adventure)
Favorite Color: yellow
Main Character's Name: Emma Jordan, closely followed by her sidekick Christian Schumacher
Thanksgiving Plans: As always, have the little immediate family gathering here at our house (I'm a teenager, so I live at home). The closest extended family lives in Idaho, and they all congregate with the rest of the family in Utah and the other side of the family all congregates in Michigan where they all live. We are pretty much the first of that side to leave Michigan/Illinois since their settle-age)

What you think your biggest challenges will be:my wrists/hands/shoulders, perfectionistic tendencies, inability to type or spell, my four-year-old, DH's need to fish the Wenatchee now that it open for the first time in ten years...
Something funny about yourself:I like to fill out forms, and I've done some nice ones.

Main Character's Name: Max
Thanksgiving plans: Work all the way until the day before Thanksgiving, and then write, rock out to music, maybe a bit of regular family Super Smash Bros. Competition.

Let's take a few minutes to get to know each other!

Name: "cloister" is good enough.

Location: Redmond

Why you do Nano: Most fun I have every year. Really.

What you are looking forward to the most this year: The discoveries I'm sure will happen while taking the plot I expect to write, and actually writing it. Those are always the most fun, and always improve the story immensely.

What you think your biggest challenges will be: Coping with NaNo and my job. Job is extra busy these days.

Something funny about yourself: Uh... There's probably a lot of stuff there, but I tend to consider myself sort of boring, so nothing comes to mind.

Favorite Color: Green.

Main Character's Name: Isaac, unless someone in our company's charity drive bids a lot of money for the right to name him after themselves!

Thanksgiving Plans: Stay home, cook a lot, clean a lot. Historically that's always one of my driest stretches of writing during NaNo; there just never turns out to be any time.

Why you do Nano: I'm stubborn. I've lost twice now, but I'm not giving in yet. Besides that, I looooooove writing.
What you are looking forward to the most this year: Winning! Finally.
What you think your biggest challenges will be: Procrastination and letting my brain chew me out for writing ridiculous things. Both are things I'm particularly good at..
Something funny about yourself: I collect scarves--got over a hundred now, and I just started a couple years ago. Not quite sure why, heh.
Favorite Color: Maroon
Main Character's Name: Tea (tay-uh). Hehe, sucks to be her, right?
Thanksgiving Plans: Likely going to my uncle steve/auntie ria's place to eat lots of food with the family. <3

Why you do Nano: I'm a writer, formerly published (nothing big) but five years ago we discovered that our son had special needs, and ten years ago I got ill with autoimmune disease. My writing took a back-seat and when we moved I lost my critique group, and I've been floundering since.

What you are looking forward to the most this year: working on last year's nano, which has great seeds but I need to rewrite it
It'll be hard to get on track with this year's when last year's is calling me... plus, I still need to finish my script frenzy.

What you think your biggest challenges will be:my kids both do nano (we homeschool) so I wind up writing 60K, plus trying to get knitting/sewing done for xmas presents. Oh, and my daughter's ballet teacher always expects me to do the costumes for the class. Sigh. And then there's the immune flares...

Something funny about yourself: I'm a mother and yes, I do wear combat boots. Sometimes. I'm fiber-obsessed, but my knitting/crochet and now spinning isn't the grandma type. I look normal, but it seems to be a disguise.

Favorite Color: black and purple

Main Character's Name: I write historical time travel YA (last year's and this year's nanos). At some point it will be more literary-esque but I can't pull that off during Nano.

Thanksgiving Plans: I plan on getting lots of exercise rolling my eyes at everyone who thinks traveling to family's houses breaks up their nano time. Then I'll get busy, I have to cook for my entire family, possibly clean up if we invite anyone here, then clean up afterward. It won't be pretty. I plan to get ahead, so I don't get behind.

Why you do Nano: Forced discipline and motivation
What you are looking forward to the most this year: The charge that comes from just sitting down and doing it.
What you think your biggest challenges will be: Maintaining my enthusiasm
Something funny about yourself: I'm a Grocery Outlet junkie
Favorite Color: Green, in all of its varied splendor.
Main Character's Name: No clue. Not sure I really HAVE a main character.
Thanksgiving Plans: I don't think that far ahead!

Name: Jamie. But most people during NaNo call me Xaan.

Location: Mostly Bellingham, but will be making several treks south to Seattle and surrounding areas.

Why you do Nano: As someone said above, it's the most fun that I have all year. All my friends are people I met during NaNo, and I look forward to it every year.

What you are looking forward to the most this year: The Sa Francisco write-a-thon!

What you think your biggest challenges will be: Getting to 50k without failing any of my classes.

Something funny about yourself: I own 15 hermit crabs.

Favorite Color: Blurple.

Main Character's Name: I'm not sure yet...I'm not even positive who my main character will end up being.

Thanksgiving Plans: Help my mom cook dinner, listen to her grumble about Grandpa, and then lock myself in my car (for privacy!) and write furiously until dinner is served

Why you do Nano: Because it's there and I'm a writer who loves a deadline. :)
What you are looking forward to the most this year: A two day writing weekend trip to Birch Bay, first weekend of November.
What you think your biggest challenges will be: Half my book will be flashbacks, and there's this whole question of whether what the main character is experiencing is really happening or in her head. That's going to suck, but in a fun, challenging way.
Something funny about yourself: Writing a book in November made me think that writing four books in a year would be a cakewalk. Funny guy, that Nate...funny in the head.
Favorite Color: Burnt Sienna
Main Character's Name: Jubilee Vaughan
Thanksgiving Plans: Trying to cram as many social obligations as I can into as small a time period as possible. That and making some fabulous butternut squash dumplings with brown butter and sage.

What you are looking forward to the most this year: Hm...Actually getting 50k words?
What you think your biggest challenges will be: Read above XD;;

Favorite Color: any green/blue green (no brown or yellow greens)
Main Character's Name: Deshere somethingorother
Thanksgiving Plans: Work...Work. Work =D? Oh, and going to Cousin's house on the actual day of thanksgiving.

Why you do Nano: I've had at least one new novel idea a year for the past 40 years. NaNoWriMo keeps me from getting any further behind.
What you are looking forward to the most this year: Breaking the mold. Writing more extemporaneously in shorter spurts.
What you think your biggest challenges will be: Holding myself to 50,000 words. Last year was 76,000 and the year before was85,0000. This year I'm really trying to tell the whole story in 50k.
Something funny about yourself: I'm really a middle-aged male with an inferiority complex.
Favorite Color: Indigo.
Main Character's Name: Steven George
Thanksgiving Plans: Leaving by train on Tuesday for Minneapolis to have Thanksgiving with in-laws. (arr Thursday a.m.) Return Saturday night arriving Monday morning. I anticipate a lot of train writing during this trip. (Like DD, I wish I was doing a murder mystery!)

Why you do Nano: I've always wanted to write and I've always been afraid to write. I'm jumping in without thinking about it too much.

What you are looking forward to the most this year: Finishing.

What you think your biggest challenges will be: Finishing. I'm not particularly good at time management. I also tend to start new things with a bang and then fade rather soon. Oh, yeah, and fear.

Something funny about yourself: I can't think of anything funny per se. I keep coming up with things like, I had Atomic Pink hair when I was 35.

Favorite Color: Orange

Main Character's Name: Janet is the first name that always comes to mind.

Thanksgiving Plans: There are four ways I might spend Thanksgiving, but I have no idea at this point which will win out.

Why you do Nano: I attempted Nano last year, and gave up after 8,000 words because I was "too busy." We all know that was just a lame excuse, and I to see if I can actually motivate myself to write a novel this time around. I'm curious to see what I come up with after a month of frantic writing. Also, I just want to be able to say, "I've written a novel, (and no, you can't read it because you would probably think less of me)."
What you are looking forward to the most this year: meeting interesting people, writing interesting stuff, and finishing my novel
What you think your biggest challenges will be: getting past that second week
Something funny about yourself: I'm a Guinness world record holder for high-fiving.
Favorite Color: blue/green/yellow (i like a lot of colors)
Main Character's Name: not sure yet- maybe Lemuel?
Thanksgiving Plans: going back home to Portland, OR to be with the fam

Why you do Nano: This is my first year of Nano. Like a lot of folks, I've always wanted to write a novel but have been hamstrung by my own insecurity. The "No plot? No problem!" attitude of Nano is what I need to take the pressure off and just get writing.

What you are looking forward to the most this year: The sporadic thrill I feel when I really get into something I'm writing - the joy of imagination and expression.

What you think your biggest challenges will be: Keeping the faith.

Something funny about yourself: Nothing. Feminists have no sense of humor.

Favorite Color: Red.

Main Character's Name: Dunno Yet.

Thanksgiving Plans: Hopefully just writing. I am not into family this year.

Why you do Nano: I like writing- fiction, and non :)
What you are looking forward to the most this year: Meeting people in Seattle that do Nano :) I spent the last few years doing Nano in Champaign, Illinois, and it was fantastic. I'd like to see if these hydrophobic ducks live up to the hype ;)
What you think your biggest challenges will be: Staying motivated. This is my fourth year, and now, I'm writing for a living (for an investment magazine)... so writing for fun, well... I don't know. We'll see how it goes.
Something funny about yourself: My curly red hair is so thick that once in German class, one of the guys sitting behind me stuck a pencil through my hair, and I totally didn't notice. For the whole class.
Favorite Color: Purple
Main Character's Name: Oh, heck, I don't know- Eleanor?
Thanksgiving Plans: Maybe going to Portland to hang out with the husband's extended family, and perhaps an ex-boyfriend and his wife? Oooh, that sounds like a Nano plot right there!

Why you do Nano: I love to write and have always wanted to be one since I was little.
What you are looking forward to the most this year: Actually writing something that goes over two pages that is not college related.
What you think your biggest challenges will be: Procrastination and letting me hold myself back while blaming it all on my cat
Something funny about yourself: I TOTALLY freaked out when I was chased by a fawn because he thought I had food in the bucket I was holding (I was 5 at the time and he was bigger than me!)
Favorite Color: Well…my least favorite color is puce……
Main Character's Name: I have a lot of characters running through my head….some being chased by deer….others are just holding the bucket
Thanksgiving Plans: I do not have a Thanksgiving Day tradition. I have a Thanksgiving Weekend tradition. 1 day at my father’s. 1 day at my mother-in-laws. 1 day with my father-in-law. I guess one could consider it a marathon…..

What you are looking forward to the most this year: Finishing this book and snowboarding
What you think your biggest challenges will be: week two and three and keeping the book interesting
Something funny about yourself: I'm very good at being the voice for most pets. I can talk for my dog for hours, he has so much to say and he listens to NPR so he likes to talk about many different topics.

Main Character's Name: I don't know yet. I'm not thinking about it until the 25th
Thanksgiving Plans: I don't know that yet either but I hope the food is good no matter where I end up

Why you do Nano: This is my first year. Last year I signed up to do it, but it had to be put aside in favor of cancer treatment (successful, yeahhhh!). I need something that keeps me focused and honest. I have told EVERYBODY. I have to do it now.
What you are looking forward to the most this year: I'm looking forward to getting this story out of my head and onto the page.
What you think your biggest challenges will be: Just writing and not stopping to 'fix' things.

Why do you NaNo?: The first year I did it, it was because I'd just heard of this crazy novel-inna-month thing, and I had to try it out. The next year I did it it was because a plotbunny tackled me on Nov. 1 and demanded I participate. This year, similar thing - I have a story idea and it will not be denied. So, here I go!

What you think your biggest challenges will be: Gumption, maybe. Time probably won't be an issue, except I might have too much time, leading to lackidaisical ways. We shall see!

Something funny about yourself: Um, my nickname is Hobbit, due to height, curly hair, and I do enjoy me some LotR. Also, I was the scribe for my gaming club in college, and it was one of the best years of my life.

Favorite color: Blue! No, green! *flies over cliff*

Main Character's Name: Katherine.

Thanksgiving plans: My boyfriend and I are planning to head down to Portland to my folks' house for feastin'. Mmmm, feastin'....

What you are looking forward to the most this year: Seeing if I can make it. XDDD;

What you think your biggest challenges will be: Lack of dew? I may run out... that would be a real tragedy. D:

Something funny about yourself: I ... peel my grapes? x3

Why you do Nano: I love to write, but I always procrastinate and change stories every few months without ever finishing one. NaNo will probably motivate me to start and finish a story...plus, I've got a really cool idea that I can't wait to start on!

What you are looking forward to the most this year: Finishing a story. xD

What you think your biggest challenges will be: Not having enough time...I'm losing enough sleep now as it is. T_T

Something funny about yourself: I burst out into song and dance in public. xD

Favorite Color: Green.

Thanksgiving Plans: Being with family and EATING! <3 xD

What you are looking forward to the most this year: The all-nighters

What you think your biggest challenges will be: Just sticking with it over 10,000 words.

Something funny about yourself: I used to wonder if Luke Skywalker was a Prince, since his sister was a Princess. And whether or not Darth Vader was therefore a king, or if he just married a queen.

Favorite Color: Grey

Thanksgiving Plans: Not sure yet. Dinner with the fam, mine or my missus'

Something funny about yourself: I am terrible at nanoing because my inner editor leveled-up too much while I was getting my degree in creative writing.
