question: why do they need to be fictional? is it a copyright issue you're worried about? i would say look at titles of your favorite bands and their songs and come up with synonyms/antonyms for each. there are also band name generators on the net if you really get stuck for ideas.
example -- I am a huge Soundgarden fan. An old friend of mine used to make fun of me for it (who knows why, he's a dork) and called them "Noise Pasture". You can use that one, I don't care -- "Noise Pasture" bugged the crap out of me anyway, give it a good home.
your idea sounds cool, i love road trip novels.

Me, too! I'm now rewriting a novel about an oldies band. It's a lot of fun.
