The widgets have arrived, and we can see how we're doing all at once!

Calgary vs Edmonton
(One thing Edmonton has that Calgary hasn't is a cool name - they're the Edmowrimos! We need a cool name, too!)
Calgary vs Hamilton
(Hamilton has zambonis, but Calgary has the Flames!)
Calgary vs Delaware
(Delaware wants to compete with both Hamilton & Calgary; I figure, why not? We can come out on top of the heap!)
The Awards For Which We Compete
We Are the Champions - received by the region with the most winners
We Are REALLY the Champions - received by the region with the highest percentage of winners
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome - received by the region that writes the most words in total
Extraordinary Verbosity - received by the region with the highest average number of words written
Everybody's a Winner - received by the region who has not already won an award
~~~~~~~~~~
Well, everyone, as usual we will be going head-to-head with Edmonton this year, to see which region can accumulate the larger percentage of winners or words or something like that (details yet to be worked out, obviously).
We have also been asked to participate in a challenge with Hamilton, which is the birthplace of the Zamboni. I said I would check with you-all before we took them on, so cast your vote now! Shall we also go up against Hamilton, or do we want to stick to the tried-and-true with Edmonton?
If we had to choose just one, I would definitely prefer Edmonton. I do not, however, see the harm in challenging them both!!
Can't it be both? I'm not picky about who we're against though.
Heck, I'm all for it. Why not? The more incentive (by which I mean potential for ridicule) there is, the less likely people will be to drop out! We'll show them that they can't rest on their zamboni laurels forever!
Edmonton's the big one...since we have yet to kick their collective butts.
But they...the more the merrier! That's right...I'm talkin to YOU Hamilton!
LOL!
Odear, IronKite, you make me laugh so hard...
Hamilton has categories for the winners & losers, gang, so what we're competing for is the following:
Here are the categories (open to negotiation, of course):
- The "We Are The Champions" Award goes to the region with the most winners.
- The "We Are REALLY The Champions" Award goes to the region with the highest percentage of winners (take the number of winners and divide by the number of people who are registered).
- The CTS Award goes to the region that writes the most words in total. CTS = Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
- The Extraordinary Verbosity Award goes to the region with the highest average number of words written (take the total words written and divide by the number of people who posted a word count).
- The "Everybody's a Winner Award" Award goes to the region who has not already won an award. In the spirit of NaNoWriMo, every participant is a winner!
(with thanks to Saskatchewan, Canada and Adelaide, Australia, from whom these categories were shamelessly cribbed and only slightly amended)
I love those categories - shall we use them for ours too? Or is that unfair because there's more of us?
Please advise.
My opinion is that we should use some for you guys, but those ones for "most words written in total" and stuff aren't fair.
I'm all for challenging both Hamilton and Edmonton. Mainly because I have cousins participating in nano from both places and I want to kick their TRASH!!! We already have our own bets on, but it's best to make it official. That way the abusive limericks we share with each other at the family reunions can deliver even more pain and shame.
And as for categories, would it be vary hard to do all of them? (let's just hope one of those is not for spelling, I owuld be no help to anyone.)
Hamilton...PUH-Leeezzz.
As for Edmonton....I think we've finally lulled them into a false sense of security. Which will make victory all the sweeter this year year when we ROAST their sorry......keyboards ;o) !!
And don't worry, we aren't getting complacent. I was just saying the other day that I have a bad feeling about you guys this year. Fortunately we've launched an aggressive nagging campaign!
Just dropping by to put in the super awesome new widget option: built in average word count!!!! (Even better, this is set up to only include the people who are actually active this year. YAY!!!!!)
Don't forget, though, this is only one aspect of the competition - there's also percentage of winners still to count!
