In the jungle of NaNoWriMo, who is right beside you with the insect repellent? Who holds the flashlight at the end of the dark tunnel that is November?
Who gives you kleenex and chicken noodle soup while you are sick with novel fever? Who hikes beside you through the desert of words and makes sure you drink enough water?
Tired of terrible metaphors yet? ;)
Who are the people that stand behind your decision to write a novel in thirty days?

Everyone kind of laughs at me when I tell them, because they don't believe anyone can write a novel in 30 days, but I'm still gunna try ^__^
I have three friends that really support me though, so thats good.

Pretty much the only one (besides two old High School friends) that really doesn't belittle my long going writing love has been my spouse, though, not all his ideals are good (especially the ones that I have to translate to my world and out of Wizards of the Coast or White Wolf).
Though I won't be gettin 50K done (prior committments) he has subtly mentioned that such deadlines for me is like the black plague and causes my muse to complete run and hide as it's being attacked by aniexty. Even outside of Nano, my spouse has been a HUGE supporter of mine though he reminds me that I "need to finish something" rather then always starting and not finishing.
Those of you with other spouses, are they asking you to hurry up and finish the novel so you can make a fortune to pay the bills and get that big ass flat screen tv? *laughing* Serious, I love my spouse and up till I met him I had not really known support like I do know - even if I have to entertain him with some of his ideals.

I've never encountered someone who actively discouraged me. My family just kind of chalked it up as "another weird thing she does".
My friends are all supportive and understand that I hole myself up in December. A couple of them do word wars with me, even though they don't expect themselves to get anywhere near finishing. I have one friend here who does NaNo like I do, holing herself up. Until recently, she was in Japan but this year she is in Toronto, so it will be interesting to see what happens.
The one person that super supports me, is my best friend. She started NaNo in 2002 and convinced me to do it in 2003. We barely talk furing November. We don't do word wars (she can't write with pressure like that), but at the same time, the times we do talk are the most encouraging. I am strange though. I don't really look for or need support, but I have tons to give to people. This is probably why I chose to volunteer as ML.
