After a brief discussion with the Alberta::Elsewhere ML, we've decided that it's time for a bit of friendly rivalry between the two rival provinces. Nothing dirty or cheap, just a bit of fun to keep the words flowing throughout the month.
As Aquadeo, the ML for Alberta::Elsewhere, described it: it's a contest for the next thirty rounds and shall determine the Championship of the West!
We outnumber them, guys, so let's make our numbers count. They've got some amazing writers over there so let's make sure that we don't fall behind and keep it going until December 1 @ midnight.
The rules are simple -- when the bell rings, start writing! The winner will be chosen through two statistics: the highest percentage of writers which surpass 50,000 words, and the largest average wordcount per writer. The respective liaisons will provide weekly updates, but the show's not over until the calendar says December.
Competition starts on November 1st, right at midnight. I'll make sure that there's a chat set up for our BC region so that we can confer, bounce ideas off of one another, and get our word count up!
So, if you're up to meeting the competition, toddle on over to the Alberta::Elsewhere forums, give 'em a friendly hi-five, and let's keep it clean, people! No Alberta jokes. :P

Okay guys, we need to keep up to date on updating word counts on the site, otherwise Denton and his Wrimosaurs are going to continue to keep kicking us around! We can't have that, can we? I sure can't. The shaaaaaame.
Let's do this, BC Wrimos!

Greetings from the prairies, everyone!
My name's Denton, and I'm the ML for the Alberta Wrimosaurs! I'm really looking forward to this matchup -- we're adjacent provinces in the same country, we share a mountain range that makes us both world famous, and we've both hosted a Winter Olympics (close enough, anyway). Also, we're both really tired of people giving all the attention to our two largest cities.
We've got a ton of things in common, and I haven't even started talking about the WHL yet. I think this is going to be an excellent rivalry... really, the only thing we don't have in common is that your region is four times bigger than ours.
(Gasp! So intimidating!)
Anyway, it'll be interesting seeing what happens, but don't think we're going to be an easy victory: We've got people with spooky librarian powers on our side! *I'm* scared of them, and they're on *my* team!

You're already part of it. :) It's a regional thing - I was mostly announcing this so that you knew about it. Big Brother (er... Sister?) is watching your word count. ;)

LOL. Okay. Yeah...I figured it was something like that :D Is this thread just so the Albertans can come and heckle us?? Are you going to be posting a progress report at some point??

Yes, yes, we all see the fancy widget in your signature, Elenya (ow! the vast quantity of words!). But if you'll recall, we agreed upon largest average wordcount per writer...
Average wordcount (active BC-Elsewhere) = 13681.53
Average wordcount (active Alberta-Elsewhere) = 17053.96
(data available at http://naperwrimo.org/nanostats/ )
If anyone in B.C. hasn't updated their word count yet, doing so would close this gap in quite a hurry... not that I mind, though. I kind of like those numbers as they are. : )
