Actually, my character is gay. But he won't admit it because he wants to, you know, join the army.

Well, my MC's are lesbian, however, I've never really thought about my novel as a "lesbian" novel. Mine is actually in the 'Other' category. I mean... it's theme is finding true love amidst illusions, and... well... my novel is really dark and wacko. But I've never thought of it as a "lesbian" novel before... and now, to be honest, I still don't. The main characters and relationships are mosty woman-woman, but.... I've never classirfied it as lesbian before.

But... I guess they should somehow acknowledge this as a genre or subgenre or something? That might be nice I guess... seeing as though even if some people might just think my novel is a ... novel... .others might want to classify it simply as "lesbian", just because of the genders of the people that heppen to fall in lov.e Uggh....

I think I can safely say my novel goes under this category, after a bit of genre identity crisis. But I'm also fairly certain that there's nothing out there yet like this. My novel is basically about a lesbian couple adopting a child from Africa, and all the rules and realities they have to face through the complicated process to parenthood.

Have you read any of Michael Cunningham's books? He wrote The Hours, but many of his other books have some gay themes. It's amazing the way he writes though, because it's like that's not what the book is really about at all. Very impressive.

My two main protagonists are... well, one is gay and the other has almost no sexual identity but ends up falling in love at the end with the other one. So yes.

It's all a satire though, which parodies the badly written homoerotica, fantasy and romance novel cliches out there. I hope to add depth despite this though :)

I'm bisexual, and lean heavy on the lesbian side of me. I'm writing a memoir, part of which is about my sexual orientation and the story of how it all unfolded, how it was repressed as a child, etc.

I think most of the LGBT writers are doing YA fiction with LGBT characters/themes. There's a decent thread over in that forum.

I recently wrote a lesbian-themed screenplay, and thought of [cheating and] adapting that for nano. But, decided to play fair and started fresh with a different lesbian-themed story this am.

Perhaps if I write quickly (as if) on this one, I can start the adaptation after.

I guess my novel would qualify for GLBT fiction. It's about two women who fall in love, one of them is very religious and has an inner conflict with her religion and her love for her girlfriend. the non-religious one fights to win her heart.

It's very loosely based on personal experience.

You're definitely not alone and I too am surprised that there isn't a genre listed on the main page. I hate being "Other". As for me I am writing a novel about three guys in their twenties, who are all, of course, looking for "someone" and the question is whether they get what they want, what they deserve, or what they need. Think of it as Jane Austen meets Boston's South End in 1995. 1414 words so far!!

Yeah, GLBT fiction wasn't represented in the list of genres last year, either. Still, there was a topic up under the Other category early on, and it was a lot livelier than it has been so far this year. Maybe it's because the site's been so slow.

Anyway, I'm writing another gay-themed novel this year. Last year, it was about a gay angel. This year, it's dealing with gay incest (and no, not in a good light). Haven't seen too many novels out there with that theme, so I thought I'd give it a shot.

I freakin' love my main character! His name's Jakk "Joker" Card, and he's a half-Lust demon, half-human bisexual investigator/mercenary/hit man/whatever you pay him to do. He meets a homeless young violinst, Jingle, who's recently been tossed out of his overly-religious foster home because they had found out that Jingle had a boyfriend, named Doodles. Doodles is a pyro who considers setting things on fire and watching it burn "art", but after some incidents at school, he's gone missing...

Joker takes Jingle in, and finds that Doodles, among other school children, have been turning up missing, some of the bodies are being found with strange markings and gruesome wounds that aren't made by human weapons. Now, Joker has a supernatural investigation! While he goes to figuring out what's happening, he starts developing feelings for Jingle, and he even acts on them a few times... The only thing is, Jingle still loves Doodles, and he's willing to do anything to find the man he loves.

Of course, some complications happen along the way. :-) There's plenty of love, sex, mystery, suspense, and action! I love this story so much!

One of my main characters is gay, and my story is basically about him discovering who he is and coming out, etc. But there are other elements involving his best friend, who hates gay people because of something bad that happened to him in the past. I don't really want to give much of it away even though I'm not sure if people will actually get to read it or not.

That sounds freakin amazing!!! I would love to read that someday!

i've done Lesbian themed things in the past and i was thinking of doing something this year thats more about transsexuals. today, though, i was thinking about it and decided im going to try to do something more about gender itself and what makes a person male or female other than just the body, as well as internal conflicts dealing with gender.

we live in a world thats so gender based yet so many people fail to live up to societies "norms" I myself am trans and i know many other trans people and some who dont identify as either male or female. its an interesting subject that is often ignored...

Heh, don't be upset about it not appearing in the genre selection, because it's not actually a genre. There's actually GLBT threads in probably about all of the genre forums... just because one or more of your characters is queer doesn't mean they aren't also having adventures, romances, solving mysteries, flying spaceships, slaying dragons, or whatever else your novel might entail. (And if it doesn't fall into any of those, either, then it's probably just mainstream fiction, whether it's got a dyke or two in it or not.)

One of my main characters is a lesbian. But that's fairly inconsequential to the fact that it's otherwise straightforward science fantasy involving an epic quest to save the galaxy. And you know what? I rather like things that way. There's no need to go into a bunch of angst about it, since in my setting however many centuries into the future, nobody really gives a crap that she likes chicks. (Aside from her pervy roommate complaining jokingly that he never gets recordings, but nevermind that. ;P)

That's exactly what I was planning to do, too! Or more precisely, a story about a lesbian couple who is planning to adopt a child, and what kind of process it is both legally and for their relationship. Adoption is not possible for gay couples in my country, so that made the topic a little less attractive, because I didn't want to place that novel in an imaginary place or abroad. Now I've got a totally different story, but perhaps I'll use this idea as a subplot (wow, actually it just connected to my story in my head, while I was writing this message!).

LOL Keolah, right before I found this thread I was thinking of posting in the mainstream fiction forum something like "Both of my main characters are lesbians...with each other...but I still think this could be made into a movie! Does that make my novel mainstream?" I can already see the soccer moms picking it up in the bookstore...

My story is sort of garden-variety romance. With women. Hopefully with humor, also.

My three main characters are as follows: A cute bi chick in nursing school, who is from Ohio; her girlfriend, who is a trasnwoman from Canada; and their mutual best friend from Texas, also a transwoman. All three have small psychic gifts. The story mostly follows their experiences in life dealing being psychic and having sexuality issues, among other things.

So I suppose you could say that I'm dealing in LGBT themes this year.

I self-identify as "not picky" /Kinsey 3, and my four main characters are a lesbian couple and a gay couple.

I am dealing with LGBT themes as the plot develops -- one of my characters is a (fictional) Victoria's Secret model who outs herself, and one of the others is a (fictional-but-based-on-a-real-person) actor -- so I have to deal with public perception and all that fun squishy stuff. I already have the line: "We got married. Back then, it was a political statement."

i'm writing real person slash fiction, so yeah, about as gay as it gets. actually, mine counts as LGBT in at least two ways as two of the main characters are trans (though their real life counterparts are not). the main character is a mostly-gay ftm guy whose boyfriend is a non-trans guy, for the record.

One or both of my MCs is a lesbian, but it plays such a minimal role in the story that I wouldn't really count it as LBGT fiction.

Woo-hoo! I'm writing,,, I have no idea if this fits in another cetegory, but I really feel like it should... Meh, well, my MC's include a guy (rather asexual) his sister (who looks like a boy) and her (to-be-)girlfriend. And it feels like it's slowly slipping from something very 'oh, teenagers in love and life and crap' to something very 'oh, teenagers in love and life an-HOLYCRAPWHEREDIDTHATWEREWOLFCOMEFROM!?!!'

My character's bisexual and I'm sure it'll get lumped into the LGBT category, though I don't think his sexuality is going to be a very integral part of the plot.

I love you. I don't know who you're slashing (though if it involves Stephen Gately or Nicky Byrne I'll be hideously amused), but anyone who gets that transguys can be gay is awesome. Anyone who gets that gay transguys can have non-trans boyfriends is even more awesome.
