Year Round Group

Greetings,

I am curious if there is anyone here who would be interested in founding a year round writing group for the montreal area. While my preference is speculative fiction, I'm open to whatever.

Ideally, I'd like an every other week or so get together, where we spend an hour or two going over previously written things: ie, critiques, and then some time writing new things.

So far I've had no luck finding any established groups, and so I thought I'd pop the idea to the nano'ers that are interested or serious about year round writing, editing and publication.
----------
"Aye. The plains that bear no life, the fields of bone, they do exist," Theron acknowledged. "But that was several thousand years ago. Those family lines should be so well spread that not even Athanasius should be able to eliminate them all."

ARGH

I've been sidelined with the Hacking Crud for the past 6 days, which hasn't helped my word count. I have managed to write a fair bit (I just haven't updated my word count), but it's not as much as I would have managed with a clear head.

Anyways, I have 10 days left. I CAN do this!

Is anyone else behind but determined?
Chris Baty says hallo!

Hey YUL!

I am in San Francisco at the Night of Writing Dangerously. It is quite the extravaganza here. Several hundred people typing away. And I am on the Forums, albeit only every so briefly.

I met Chris, jolly nice chap, and he says hallo to the Montreal gang and, though he has never been to our fine city, he very much would like to.

Cheers from SF (the time to go from under 20K well over the required amount, in which case I best log out)!

Trish!
Rencontre francophone ou dans l'est? Dimanche le 22?

Salut!

----------

Reminder: Crime on a Dime! Saturday, November 21st

Hey guys;

Tomorrow I'm hosting an event with the Crime Writers of Canada in the Pointe Claire Library (100 Douglas-Shand, Pointe-Claire), and we'll be featuring three well-known Canadian authors: Michael Blair, Mary Jane Maffini and Louise Penny.

The event is called Crime on a Dime, and all three authors will be challenged to sell me just one of their books, to speak about the characters, to do a little reading, etc. There should be a strong interplay between all three of these authors, too!

The event is free, and the doors open at approximately 3:15 p.m. tomorrow afternoon. The actual event will be from approximately 3:30 to 4:30, but we won't kick you out until 5:00.

Consider swinging out a bit early, too - if you want to get some additional writing done before hand, there's plenty of space at the PC Library.

Hope to see you there!
Margo (aka Pat)
----------
Live like this is your last chance, and let go.

Your best NanoWriMo Moment

What is your best moment of Nanowrimo this year, or in years past?

For me, starting on day 11, catching up.. and being ahead of the game by the 16th. I feel like I've really accomplished something.

And, the writing quality is not bad despite it being a write-a-thon dedicated to quantity. It never ceases to amaze me how far a human can go when they push themselves to their limits.
Past NanoWriMos

Greetings, folks!

I've participated in NaNoWriMo for quite a while, under three or so different accounts. (The first two lost because I did not remember the password and no longer used those email addresses...)

Each year, the atmosphere of Nanowrimo has been almost entirely different. This is something interesting. But, I've noticed one thing -- Montreal's boards are so! much! more! quiet! than it used to be.

What happened to our plot discussions, our reaching out to help one another on our little private haven during NanoWriMo?

What happened to our word war with Toronto? Are we going to let them beat us without a fight? We used to have challenges, many dares, and the kin. Quite a few of us actually would hit up mini wars on IM at one point to ensure that we were keeping ourselves fully motivated. We even had invaders from Toronto taunting us at one point or another.

I would like to see us revitalized, moving towards the same exhuberant life we used to have. I'd like to see us having posts on the boards frequently, not just for organizing write ins.

(Though the write ins and meet ups are quite fun!)

I am almost always available by IM (Rayvenfeather on AIM - Rayvenfeather@hotmail.com on MSN and rebecca.j.blain@gmail.com on email.)

I enjoy helping people with plot holes, I enjoy discussing the perks of writing. More, I enjoy establishing writing relationships with people. Sure, Nanowrimo is only in November, but who says the journey can't continue on after?

Is there anything that I can do to help get our boards a little bit more back to the vibrant life that it once possessed?
----------
"Aye. The plains that bear no life, the fields of bone, they do exist," Theron acknowledged. "But that was several thousand years ago. Those family lines should be so well spread that not even Athanasius should be able to eliminate them all."

A weekly dare moves my plot on!

On the main page of this site is currently a video of weekly dare ideas. I was having trouble moving my plot forward, so to boost my wordcount I used one of them... now I found the way to move my plot forward - better yet, I now know how I'll fit my psychic ferret in (that's a bit started 7 NaNos ago, and I may be the only person left who gets it still)!
