Hi everyone!
My name's Narelle and I'm a 20 yo uni student in Townsville. I'm studying Arts/Education with majors in English and Japanese, and while suffering from a temporary loss of sanity I decided to try and do Nanowrimo this month even though I have exams all next week. In order to get a good footing I dedicated this last weekend wholly to writing... and ended on Sunday night with 25000 odd words! I never thought it'd be possible.
Anyhow, it appears that there are a fair few Townsvillian Nanowrimos, so I was thinking it might be fun to have a group writing session somewhere. Anyone know a good place in Townsville where we could set up camp? And would anyone be interested?
Cheers,
Nellie

Wowsner... I'm in grade 12 at the moment (planning on studying textiles and art in tafe next year, uni seems a little too much trouble to me at the moment), and am taking it slow and steady in the nano department so far xD
I mentioned a Townsville write-in in the North Queensland forums and got about two hands, but I don't think le ol' Townsvillians are on the forums much anyway. I looked around but places are either expensive, don't have coffee or computers. And not everyone has laptops.
So my suggestion is the libary! It is cosy, quiet, has computer access (don't think it has msword on it but there are always notebooks?) and I'm sure the libarians will be friendly towards nano'ers. If we go to the one in town there are newsagents and stuff that sell coffee around the place...
So that is my suggestion.
(Does anyone else think it is rather quiet around the 'elsewhere in australia' forums? Everyone is on the Brissy one... )

Hey,
I'm a 18-yo uni student, studying Information Technology.
I'm actually currently sitting at Uni working on this novel because I kept getting distracted at home - and here I am on the forums gettng distracted again, lol.
I'd be interested in attending a group write-together, Thuringowa Library across from Kirwan High might be a good place. If I remember correctly, they have that computer section and then down in the middle of the library, there are some tables where people with laptops can set up, or those with the good ol' pen&paper method.
One of the internet cafes might work as well, somewherelike.. InterMax? (Never been there personally though), but if enough people are interested, I can keep a look out for any good areas.

Hey people!
I'm Kimmy. I'm 19 and live in Ingham, but I'll be moving to Townsville around the end of the month. I work shift in a lab for a sugar mill so finding time to write is kinda hard, but I seem to be doing alright so far. In fact this is the best I've ever done. :3
Anyway. Considering I'm about the only Ingham-ite doing NaNo... I was wondering if I could maybe join in with the write in?

Oh my gosh, this heat is insane.. lol
Well, I'm gonna pack up my stuff at home and head out to Thuringowa Library. (Yay for airconditioning!)
If anyone is interested in coming along, I'll probably be hiding out in the reference section with my VAIO laptop. =P (will be there in about 20 min)

I don't think I've ever been to the Thuringowa Library, even though it's only about a 5 minute drive from where I live! From what people have been saying it sounds like it's pretty cool. I wouldn't mind checking it out. I might actually head out there tomorrow for a session... I have to get ready for work soon, so no more writing for me today. :(

Oh wow!
I'm currently sitting in the Thuringowa Library right now and the place is AMAZING!
The last time I was here was last year, and they've completely changed everything, it's fantastic! They even have a cafe`!
I'm thinking this will be a perfect place for a NaNo get together lol.
They have the computers all set up in one section and for those people with laptops, there is free wireless access (which is what I'm on right now).
I'll definately be back here tomorrow, lol. Gonna hang around here until closing time at least for today.

Cafe and free wireless access? I'm so totally there. XD I'm going to go in around 11:30/12:00 tomorrow I think. I have an Acer laptop, a blue notebook with darker blue stars on it, and I'll bring my little mascot the Raptor (a veloicoraptor toy that lives on my desk) as well so if any other Nanowrimo-ers want to say hi they know who I am. :)

Edit: Up and awake, just eating some food then I'll head out

Thuringowa Library -is- fantastic! Even after Nanowrimo I'm going to spend a lot of time here to write and such. The cafe makes a mean hot chocolate and there are comfy couches with power points and such next to them.
What time are you going to be here tomorrow Xhan? I should be here around 12 again tomorrow, and I'd love to meet another one of my fellow Nanowrimos (I met Kura_Kari today : D ).

I see most here are young and talented. Good on you all.
If I could have I definitely would have gone to the library today. Serialobsessor is going to be there Friday morning about 11.30, I think that was the time. It's in the north queensland thread. I hope I can make it.

I work mornings and part of the afternoons so unfortunately I can never make it to stuff. Shame as I have not been to Thuringowa Library since it was remodelled. From what everyone here has said though, I am definately very very curious and will have to make a time to go and check it out next week after work (if deadlines don't creep on me again).

Ahh sorry people!
We had a bit of an emergency at work and I haven't been able to get back online to let you know. I'm going to be stuck there for the next few days, won't get a day off until probably Tuesday.
I'll get down there one day though!

Hello, I only just discovered this particular thread as I've just been relying on teh email notifications for the North Queenslander threads and haven't actually been back for a proper look...
anyway, I'll be at Thuringowa Library NEXT Friday (16th) around 11.30am. I don't have a laptop, so will be using a pen and pink notepad (unless I've used it up y then, there's not many pieces left in it). In all likeliness will be wearing a purple shirt, but it might be an orange one too :-)
I've just been having fun putting widgets onto my LiveJournal (Obsessed7) and another forum I'm on. Woohoo!!
cheers!!

Hey serialobsessor, I'm going to try to go to the library then too. I'll be wearing my nano tshirt. You won't be able to miss me.
I have no idea how to manage those widget things. Can they show up on other forums you might be on and not just the nano forums? I'm not too good with all this technology. Word and emails are about my limit.

I will definitely be there next Friday... all my exams will be over by then and I will be battling to regain ground again. I didn't get any writing done yesterday and I don't think I'm going to get much done today either (my Japanese exam is in two hours!), but I have a decent buffer so hopefully I won't get too far behind.

I just pasted the link for the widget into my LJ page and it worked, and I've done the same thing for my icon on the Torchwood Australia Forums. It means everyone can see how I'm doing with me having to post all the time, and I've been neglecting the forums chronically since I started doing this!
cheers! :-)

If you haven't listened to the nanowriemo radio go ahead and listen. It is really great stuff. Melbourne and Sydney are fighting it out on the latest broadcast.

Hi everyone! It's great to see everyone is still going strong.
Unfortunately, a sudden passing in the family this week undid all and any plans I had. I'm going to be away three days this week too, with the trip to Bundaberg for the funeral. I'm going to try to write longhand in the car on the way (it's a 12 hour each way trip, so I'm going to need -something- to occupy my time) but as you can imagine myself and everyone else in the family is feeling pretty grim.
I'll probably go to the library for another session on Friday. I think I'll need a nice, cosy, happy day after the last week, and I still might manage to pull this novel out of nowhere!

Hey, Mouse, I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope you have a safe trip to Bundy and back.
I've been off the forum for a few days but I hope we can all get together sometime. Now that I'm pretty sure we don't have any axe murderers in our group, not in real life anyway, maybe we should all have a celebratory bbq at my place either on the 30th or the 1st. It would be fun. Just byo and a plate. How about it? We can do the private email thing.

I'm not going to say I can come at this point - I'm going to be at the hospital all day listening to Sue Cox and don't know how I'll be feeling or if I'll still need to do any more writing that night. The 1st would probably be better, but still, can't guarantee that I could make it.
Currently playing in Facebook, although I have written nearly 700 words so far today! And hung 2 loads of washing, and changed the lounge covers... and cleaned the dishwasher... dusted... hmm, what to do next?? :-) (I'm Flyladying my day, except more in half lots than 15min ones. Nearly time to go do something else!!)

I did however manage to pick up a lap top the other day and now that my night shifts are over, I've got myself a good 3 or 4 days to catch up a bit. Heck I might even try to get down there for a day.

Woohoo! Uni is OUT of the way AND no work tomorrow! *dances*
It's almost like I've dropped off the face of the online world o.O and the NaNo world at that. I've just been so busy with work, study and uni exams in general. x_x
Anyway, DEPENDING on what time I manage to haul my butt outta bed (staying up late tonight to work on my novel, I'm badly behind on my word count >_<), I'll head off to Stockies for a bit before tackling the Thuringowa Library for a bit.
May see some other NaNo-ers there, may not, but either way, will be great if I can meet up with anyone.
*offers Mouse a hug and flowers* Sorry to hear about what happened =( My dearest regards and sympathies to you and your family.
Take care,

Sorry we missed you Kura Kari, Serial and I were there. Poor son had to find something to do while we talked.
I didn't know the library was even open weekends and Sundays no less but now that I do, I won't have to ask my son to drive me.
