Alright, I know last year we had a competition going to see who could finish first in Colorado Springs. So this is the forum for a friendly competition to achieve 50,000 first. I know that Goerge and I have been heavily competing, and because of it we've been far exceeding what we were expecting. In fact, we're currently on track for approximately 140,000 words by the end of the month. I invite all of you to join in our competition.

I'd like to announce that, although Goerge was beating me by 20 words this morning, I was (I am) ahead of him since about lunchtime.

Good luck to everyone!

(Huff! Puff! Pant, pant, pant) C'mon, give us old geezers a break! I was feeling pretty darned smug aobut having 13500 words by day five. But you guys are making me like a real slacker! My poor fingers are nearly worn away to the bone and my keyboard is smoking! But I WILL watch you guys and enjoy your success from afar! Go for it, guys.

I learned a while ago not to try to compete when there are teens invovled- for some reasons, teens seem to be able to fly quickly past the rest of us :). And it isn't like we are going slow (Kelly- I'm impressed by your word count, it rocks!).

But we will cheer you on as we plod away on our own words! Way to go!!

Right. Like I need to be any more depressed about my progress than I already I am.

You all need to send me some of your superior word count vibes. I am really struggling. It's taking me longer than ever to fall into the hole on the paper--you know, when you get to that point where things just fall into place and you know exactly what's going on and your fingers are working like mad just to keep up with the story unfolding in your brain. I'm just not there yet. Bleh.

eep. I wonder if I should defend my crown... *ponders* I'll take my laptop to school tomorrow, and see if I can't pound out another 50K day. (Were any of you around, in January, when we did NaNo-in-a-day? That was intense.) I'm all for friendly competition.

I'm game for it. Maybe my Inner Competitor will out-do my Inner Editor (who really wants me to start editing that first chapter).

Maybe, the only reason I'm so far ahead (besides having loads of free time) is because I'm competing so heavily with Goerge (as said for about the third time). I didn't really even know much plot past the fourth or fifth page. I plan on catching up to him...again...today. (speaking of catching up...shouldn't I be writing?)

I have faith in you. You're only 2K or so behind... that's like, nothing. *fuels the competition fire gleefully* You'd both better watch out... here I come. I guess teenagers are just competitive.. because noticing your two word counts spurred me to bigger and better things (like writing instead of doing chemistry homework...)

Oh no! You're only 1,500 or so behind! And Goerge and I are tied! ACK!!!! Alright....this calls for some serious word pounding.
Only 9,878 more words to go....

Can you tell I'm a little frustrated?
Come on, guys. Let's all be done tomorrow.

Edit: Sorry, Samil.

Ah...sad...I thought I might have had it this year :(
I would've had it too...if only my characters had decided randomly to make out with each other 3,000 words earlier, as that was the point I started writing fast again.
Good job May!

But, as of now I've made it. I have 50,001 words (just in case I'm unable to update it, as my internet is having extreme difficulty.), and my 50,000th word was... Slai's. One of the minor characters who just showed up a couple hundred words ago.

Good luck to everybody on reaching 50,000!

Same day, though. You could just pretend I was in a different time zone...
Good luck, everyone, and we know you can do it.

Well, I came in behind both of you guys, but at least I am there now. And so who is up for competing to get to 75,000 words now? I think that is the next celebration point. Correct?

Hm....You guys'll really have to spark my competitiveness, I've written maybe 1000 words in the past 24 hours...of course, I have a character to blame for that. CURSE YOU ASHLEY AHLBRECHT! For demanding a big role in my novel when I knew nothing about you at all...curse you!

Hmm...I think I might slow down a bit now. But I've still gotta finish this novel, so I may still go for 75k, and I may just beat you two there for the sake of it. :) I'm a little undecided.

~Samil

P.S. I was two time zones different yesterday when I finished my novel :)
P.P.S. CURSE YOU AGAIN FOR ME NOT BE ABLE TO SPELL YOUR NAME ASHLEY AHLBRICHT! Hmm...Ahlbrecht sounds better....

Tut, tut, Samil. Temper, temper.
*giggles*
my personal goal is >150K, so I've got a ways to go yet... hopefully I can keep going for that long without being distracted by going to shows. *coughs about Skin of Our Teeth*
Anyway, we deffinaly need to have a race for 75K and so on.. obviously we all work a lot better when there's competition involved. Anyone game?

-May

ps I'll take Ashley Ahlbricht if you'll do something with Mina Herrington.

I'm falling now too. But hopefully I'll start giving up on homework again. That would be nice. Anyway, I'll see if I can handle this.

Hm...I think its time for a 6000 word day. By the way, I already killed Ashley...or one of my characters did. It was a rather intense scene...or would have been, had I written it well....but the editing must wait, its time for my characters to kill each other! Or...at least...get themselves stranded on a magic-less world by killing the only guy who can get them off of it.

I'll catch up to you May, even though I be sick and coughing up blood (not quite, but almost) or if I have five tests in the next two days...

Come and get me, Samil. ;)
And everyone else... keep going.. come on, I'm getting sick of trying to beat these two.. we need someone new to pull a Seabiscut and scare us into not slacking off.

Hm...I'm afraid I've lost my steam...I'm still writing, just not so much right now. I'll pop out of nowhere, perhaps. But I'm currently working on a non-NaNovel...in November (is that allowed? Or are we required to focus entirely on NaNo? :))

But, should inspiration hit me hard, I will catch up to you.

Anyway, check this out:

Would've been really fun about a week and a half ago...

Make a bet with George about who can reach 100K first. That way, you get motivation back, I get competition back and you have a use for your pretty little widget.
-May
(p.s. No, I didn't write a little under 20K in the 10 hours and 44 minutes between midnight and now, as my profile would seem to suggest. I just gel lazy at updating my word count when we're not competing any more.

Alright then, here it comes...better watch out, I've got a whole idea that came to me about thirty minutes ago. And it came quickly. (I never thought that these scenarios would become a novel...)

Welcome back to the competition, Samil.

I did it!!!!!!!! Whew! I can't believe I did it in 19 days!!!!! And I still have a few short stories to add...I figure I'll end with about a 60,000 word novel before I start editing, but I can now join the green bar society and take a breather! Come on, you guys, we can still beat Ft Collins!

Well, drat. Shame I missed this one at the onset. I'm not quite at 50K, but I'm steamrolling ahead. Will probably make it before Turkey Day if all continues to go well. Less than 8K to go!

So, what's up with Fort Carson? What's the goal we have to beat?

Tiff, it's actually Ft. Collins, not Carson. They are about two slots higher than us on the productivity scale. Since they are comparable in size to us (I think) we should be able to beat them in final word count. Go to Fun Stuff on your menu bar and then select Word Count er, something or other, but it's the last word count thing you can select. That will tell you the rankings for all of Nano.

And good luck! You're so close! Happy Thanksgiving. K

Just checked and we surpassed Fort Collins by 13,700 words so far. Hopefully, we can keep our lead through Friday at midnight. I'll keep writing even though I've reached the goal.

Yes, indeed. Everyone keep writing. I'll send virtual cookies to everyone if we pass Alaska. (I know, I know, this should be in "Did you know.." but this seems to be the direction this thread is going, so..)
