I'm just popping over from the Science Fiction forum for some religion info.
My main character's partner is/was Wiccian (she dies in the first scene) and of course my MC is going through a lot of grief and issues, spends the first chapter sitting by her partner's grave talking to her. While my MC isn't Wiccian, she respects her partner's religion, and some of the beliefs have been shared.
The only thing I know about the Wiccian beliefs is something a Wiccan girl I knew told me about it, which was- "Do what you wish, but do no harm." Fantastic ideals to live by, I think.
Can anyone give me a simple overview of things that Wiccians believe in, things that might be said at her funeral, burial rituals, etc.
Googling it has not revealed anything useful yet, so if someone has a helpful website too, it would be appreciated.

I completely forgot about that website. It was a great one I used several times for highschool assignments back 10 years ago. I thought the website died a while ago, or at least had an offline period.
Good to see it's still going and that there are still a lot of open minded people bringing information and an unbiased view to the net.

It's "Wiccan". There is no such thing as a "Wiccian".

As for her funeral, it could take any number of forms depending on the Tradition of Wicca she belonged to, among other variables. But Wiccans generally believe in reincarnation, if that helps.
If you want my "Basics of Wicca" writeup, which is fairly short and gives you what I consider to be, well, the basics, feel free to PM me. I'd also be willing to answer any other specific questions you may have.

Apologies for my bad spelling. Firefox didn't recognise either spellings as correct.
No offense intended.
And once I figure out this character a bit more (the funeral scene makes me cry still) I'll PM you with a few questions.

I second the Timerift website. It really dispells a lot of the popular myths out there about Wicca these days.

Check out "The Pagan Book of Living & Dying" by Starhawk -- your local library should have it, and Starhawk's one of the best known Pagan/Wiccan writers out there. The book's full of death practices & beliefs from the Pagan side of things.

It should be noted that Starhawk is not Wiccan, she is a Goddess Spirituality member (I forget the correct term, forgive me). Goddess Spirituality focuses often times solely on the Goddess. Wicca is a balance of the God and Goddess.
