I'm Darrin Drader and I'm doing nanowrimo this year.

I'm currently running a little behind, but not so far that it would be impossible to catch up - I'm at about 10,000 words at the moment. I lost a week due to some crazy stuff going on in my personal life.

A little about me, I'm a published writer who has cover credit on four books in the Dungeons and Dragons gaming line. I've also had original fiction published through the Wizards of the Coast website.

One of the books I worked on was D20 Apocalypse. This is a supplemental book I wrote for D20 Apocalypse, the modern sister game of Dungeons and Dragons. Though I was living in the Seattle area when I wrote it, I couldn't resist using Pullman as my location in the book. It's a shame they got the map upside down (shakes fists!) Because of my familiarity and love of the post-apocalyptic genre, my currently untitled nanowrimo novel is set in the same genre. I'm hoping not only to finish it up, but put it through editing and sell it through a new indie press I may set up through Lulu.com.

I grew up in Pullman and moved back here about a year ago after a decade-long absence. It's great to be back, and I'm currently distancing myself from game writing and getting into fiction. Sure, I could sell gaming stuff for a good long time and keep myself employed, but it was always my intention to be a novelist, not a game designer and it's time to shift gears.

Anyway, that's a little about me. Just thought I'd say hi.

As much as I would like to meet the rest of you in person (and I mean that sincerely, I'm not just blowing smoke), I do have a wife and four kids, so I'm lucky to get the time I get at home to work on this thing. One thing I did do when I was in college here way back in the stone ages, was I hosted a writing club on campus where us aspiring authors would get together and offer critiques and encouragement on short stories or novels people were working on. It was something that we did once a week for about two hours. I wouldn't be opposed to doing something like that, but it would probably be something that would continue after the conclusion of Nanowrimo.

Right now I'm hoping to get up to 25,000 words by the end of the weekend. I have a pretty clear idea of where this story will go and what the major plot points will be, but a lot of the details are still kind of fuzzy. I'm working without an outline for maximum chaos.

Welcome! I'd check my D&D library to see if you're credited in any of them, but they're in Pullman and I'm in Seattle for Thanksgiving. (Renton, to be specific.) Good luck with the rest of your book!
