The problem with writing in fits and starts is just that. Having had just under 1500 words last night, I was able to jump up to a not-so-whopping 3900 between 7am and 10am today. Given that there's 15 days of writing left (not counting today) that leaves me with approximately 3075 words per day, every day, to the end of the month if I'm to make the big 50k.

I know that it's not required, that all I need to do is enjoy the writing experience, but now that I've worked out the prologue of my story, and started writing out the first major event of the book, I find my (electronic) pen is flowing! If I can keep up the pace, I shouldn't have a problem.

And I know what to do for next year: Work out the characters and plot ahead of time. Winging it like this is HELL!

I wouldn't suggest COMPLETELY winging it but as long as you know your characters, you should be able to tell their stories without plotting the novel to death. =) I personally only ever deal with character development in my pre-writing. You don't wanna overplan because you might get bored with the whole plan.

But you know what? You've got support here. Margo's awesome for that, and I'm totally rooting for you. It can be done. I got a buddy who started late (like, 3 days ago late) in the game and he's only got like 6K. Just stick to it and no matter what your word count is at the end of the month, you should still be proud of what you've written.

Hopefully I'll see ya December 8th?

Should hopefully be able to make it.

As it is, I made it to 4665 words by 3pm yesterday, and then promptly fell asleep. Hopefully I can get another 3k done by 2pm today!
