Hi All,

I haven't had a chance to come out to any of the few events yet. Is there a halfway party today that I'm missing?
Anyway, I'm used to having an evening TGIO party and as such will be heading to somewhere on Granville Island on the evening of December 1st to celebrate. I'm thinking of hitting The Cats Meow, although I'm open to suggestions. I guess I'm just used to celebrating a certain way since my days in Toronto - a local establishment with a comfy, "writer-type" vibe and definitely in the evening.
This isn't meant to step on any toes, and I certainly hope you all enjoy yourselves at the big official gathering, but if any of you are interested in something in the evening (or can't make it out due to work, etc.), respond here and we'll work something out.

Cheers,
Liz

In 2001, December 1st fell on a Saturday and I hosted a TGIO in the afternoon. (Ottawa)
In 2002, December 1st fell on a Sunday, and I hosted a TGIO in the afternoon. (Ottawa)

Ever since then, December 1st has fallen on a weeknight, and I have hosted TGIOs in the evening. (Vancouver from 2004-2006)

This year, December 1st is a Saturday again, so it's back to an afternoon TGIO.

Fair enough. I just don't enjoy afternoon parties myself. And this is my first year participating in Vancouver - I moved here from Toronto, which is why I stated that I'm used to having the TGIO party in the evening.

Will you be having readings and prizes and such for the TGIO? Or just lunch and socializing?

Very good question. I hadn't decided anything yet, but I would like to give people the opportunity to do readings this year.

Prior to this, our TGIOs have been mostly socializing although people did bring excerpts to the one in 2004. They were also shorter because they were in the evening (2 hours instead of 4).

I'm not sure about prizes, but I am thinking about it and getting suggestions from others. I did hand out my own version of a winner's certificate one year.

Feel free to nanomail or email me ideas of what you've liked at past TGIO parties. I'm always happy to get ideas from others.

While an evening party is fun, Granville island is just awkward for me to get to and back from. Eg, requires a bus trip, or paying for parking.
I'd suggest a place that was easier to get to, but its like herding kittens trying to get people to agree on a place and time.
I'll have to pass on this one personally.

I'm definetly in for an evening kind of get together. We're adults and writers why not hang out in some quaint spot at night.

I'm not trying to twist your arm (oh sure I am - the more the merrier!) but parking on Granville Island is free for 3 hours, or all night after 7pm.

I will let you know what's going on sooner to the date. Hopefully more will join!
