I thought I'd start a new thread, just in case some haven't been reading the Unofficial write-in thread.
This year the write-in will start on Friday the 23rd from about 6pmish, and continue on til... well before you get too tired to drive home, before the public transport stops for the evening, or when it starts up again in the morning.
It will be at the new 24 hour Bakery in Norwood, on the corner of the Parade and Osmond Tce. Its adjacent to Fin McCools Irish pub, and a Italian cafe on the other side. Also right next to the Norwood Kensington Library.
Tabby did some scoping, and they recommend using the toilets at the BP servo, there are toilets at the pub across the road too. Most of us didn't like the idea of pub toilets and we'll probably be having several toilet expeditions down the the servo to deal with the massive amounts of caffeine that will be needed to keep us awake. It will probably be safer in groups as the servo is a few properties down.
Tabby, what was the situation with the power points?

Arrghh, I'd LOVE to come to this, oh so much, but will be staying in Victor for schoolies with my liddle yr12 friends. lol.
Do we know what we're doing on the Friday it finishes? Something like this would be wicked, except that we'd need internet access to submit our final wordcounts before midnight...

Check out the post that DeniseB put up with a list of free wireless hotspots. There are plenty of Cibo Cafe's that have Internet access.
I'm going to be happy with my home PC that night though.

I'd really love to come and check out the bakery but Friday is my birthday so I'll be with the family. Sounds pretty good and if I'm remembering right, I may have bought lunch there once when I was working on the Parade...

Will any of you guys still be there passed 3am? I have to work that night but I'm working at the Robin Hood which is somewhere in Norwood so if people will still be there I'll come along

Chooky and I will be there, we're not sure how late we'll be though. It probably depends on how many people are there and how late others want to stay.
If you want, either one of us can give you our mobile and you can call when you're finished, or alternatively give us your mobile and we'll text when the last person goes home.

I've just tried looking. They are so new I couldn't find them listed in the White pages online.
All I remember was the name had 24 hour Bakery in it.

OK, I cheated and rang Finn MacCool's and asked a lovely gentleman by the name of Darcy for the bakery's name and he said "Enjoy". So I have searched for that and still come up empty! I searched online and then rang directory assistance and he couldn't help me either! There is a place called "Enjoy Adelaide" (on Charles St Norwood) and when you call the operator asking for a bakery called Enjoy in Norwood, they have a message in their system saying "Do not give this number out for Enjoy Bakery". How queer is that?
So, not sure of options...
I'm still going on Friday, but hope someone has a suggestion about how we can track down their phone number! or if anyone is willing to pop their head in to look at /ask about powerpoints.)

Ok, I've done a little bit of detective work.
After I picked my Troll up from school today we went for a wander down to the Parade and had afternoon tea at the bakery.
While there I asked to speak to the manager, whose name was Damian. I let him know I was part of a writer's group that was looking to come there tomorrow night for a write-in and asked about if there would be a powerpoint available. He was happy to permit the use of one and showed me where there were a couple of free powerpoints behind the drink fridge on the far right, literally right next to the booth in the corner that Tabby suggested we might use.
He said whoever arrives first just had to let the manager on duty tomorrow night know that it had been cleared with Damian that we use those power points and it would be all fine.
He also gave me a handful of coffee club cards to give out so that every fifth coffee bought is free!
So there you go, it's all a goer for tomorrow night.
I shall be there with bells on...:)

If you're all still there, I might pop in a little later. I'm going out for dinner at 7pm on Gouger Street, so depending on how late it is, I might be there.

Woohoo! Thanks Red for checking up on the power point situation! I was getting very frystrated that I could not track down a phone number for the life of me :)
OK, now VERY excited about tomorrow night. I know i shouldn't rest on my laurels as I know I will get a massive chunk done at the write in, but I just can't seem to convince myself to get down some words tonight - I dont want to rob myself tomorrow night's ideas today. (poor logic, but its late.)

Hopefully Denise and I will be there. Suddenly Friday has become very busy.
Our little darling as a vet appointment at 5.30. Then we're off to a Film screening as part of the Feast Festival.
So hopefully after 9pm we should be there.
Hmm, must remember to charge my laptop. And dig out the power board.

Minor change of plans for us. Chooky and I will be there from about 6:30 (maybe a little later, depends when we get back from the vet and calm the poor cat down), will be leaving at about 8:00-8:15 to make our show, and returning sometime around 10:00.
Hope to see as many of you as possible there!!!

Wheeeeee!!!!!
That was fun. Let's do it again next year.
I loved the venue. The corner booth was great, the food was nice, the coffee was plentiful, and having the toilet's a short walk away didn't seem to be a bad thing (not that I went). I think next time I bring a cushion or pillow though. The bench seats were a little too far from the table, which made relaxed sitting impossible. I think Red got the best position up against the fridge.
I was surprised after two coffees I was able to get to sleep when we got home. However I woke up extremely jittery and decided that I had more than enough caffeine in my system to last me out the day.
Stupid me didn't realise how bad my addiction is, and I started having withdrawal headaches later that night while out at our neighbours party. Woah, talking about blinding pain.
I've at a really good place in my story, I have so many ideas just running through my head, but no time to write them. Damn, why must Picnic in the Park be on this weekend. I'm taking my notebook!

*drags self away from the new kitties*
It was, wasn't it?....:)
I agree, I had the best seat, even the mini-earthquakes at my back now and then helped to keep me awake, as did the walks in the fresh air to the loo.
But best of all, that place has THE best hot Mochas I've ever tasted!
Oh, and not the least of all, the company was fantastic! .....;)
Next year's a must!

Would have loved to have come...too many other commitments.
It's been a crazy time this year : the guy I worked with for the past 15 years has left, and I have inherited the fiefdom I helped build. I work for an independent education provider, and it's certainly an interesting life.
At least there's no dearth of things to write about.
One thing I would like to see with this group : how come we never share anything we write ?
Just a question.

At the first meetup at the Pancake Kitchen, I suggested that we maybe have a post-Nano readalong, where people who were willing either read an excerpt out loud or have a chapter out for everyone else to read. I don't think too many people were interested though.
I'd love to have a time and place to share something we've written.

Next Tuesday at the Writer's Centre, the regular Friendly Street meeting and open mike is being held, as it has since, oh, about 1975........this month's guest readers are Kalicharan and some cat called Avalanche.
Heh.
I'm always ready for a readalong. Anytime.
