If the pride and joy of winning nanowrimo isn't enough motivation to cross 50k (though frankly, I can't imagine that it isn't), how does this sound? If you write 50k or more, you have the opportunity to read an excerpt of your novel on the radio!

Ann Arbor has a radio program on KFJC called Dancin' In The Fast Lane that is broadcast on Wednesday mornings (http://www.kfjc.org/programming/program_info.php?houroftheweek=54&info_i...). During one of the segments on that show, Unbedtime Stories, she reads excerpts from books. For the last few years, she has offered that reading slot to nano participants who have successfully crossed the 50k line.

So, if you want to read part of your glorious novel on the radio, cross that finish line and contact Ann Arbor! Her email is AArborKFJC@aol.com.

I wrote the station shortly after this post came out, and just received a reply. Here's what everyone needs to know to be on the radio.

From the Email:
You're welcome to pass on the following information:

I'm a Bay Area radio DJ. My show DANCIIN' IN THE FAST LANE airs each Wednesday morning 6-10 a.m. on KFJC 89.7 FM. My show can be also heard on the internet http://www.kfjc.org/ KFJC webcasts worldwide.

I have a feature during my weekly show called UNBEDTIME STORIES, which features fiction by (mostly) "up and coming authors". UNBEDTIME STORIES is a 20 minute feature which airs at 7:20 a.m. each Wednesday.
KFJC is located at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills just off Highway 280 at El Monte Road.

For the past 3 years I've invited Nanowrimo participants who've completed 50K words during that year's contest, to join me on the air and read a 20 minute piece of their creation on my show. Most of the participants choose to read live during the show. Some have sent a prerecorded reading.

I've really enjoyed meeting the participants and hearing their stories. All I ask is that the writer commit to a date and that they show up with 1) something to read, 2) a soundbed for their reading and 3) blank CDs so we can make a copy of the reading for them.
Writers need to be responsible for showing up once we agree to a date and I've sent them instructions. I expect see them on the appointed day and time, or receive a CD with a prerecorded reading. I don't really have the bandwidth to send reminders.

Appropriate content adheres to FCC rules (language, not too suggestive, suitable for a daytime audience, etc.).

I am hereby inviting all Nanowrimos who have completed 50k words during November 2007 to
write to me and book a date to read from their creations!

This is my way of supporting Nanowrimo and up and coming authors.

I tried to email using the email above, but it bounced back. Any suggestions?

Not sure why it bounced. It has worked for me and for others. Was it a generic 'address unknown' bounce, or was there a message associated with the bounce?

I'd try emailing her again.

A warning: the host is NOT terribly organized and will not send you any sort of reminder/confirmation before your date to read, even if it's months in the future. Make sure you set up some kind of reminder system.

I just read on Ann's show this morning, and she informed me that she still has a few slots open for additional readers.

If you crossed 50k this year, you're willing to get to Foothill College at 7am on a Wednesday, AND you want to read on the radio, drop her a line.
