Douglas Adams Boulevard?

If we are going to name a portland street after a writer, shouldn't it be an portland writer or at least an oregonian?

So, what, we should change MLK to Ken Kesey Ave? Chavez and MLK have political significance and this is a liberal city, I'm not sure that authors were considered, but if they were I would like to think perhaps it would be like nobel peace prize in literature authors. I like Douglas Adams and I really like Ken Kesey, but I'm not sure my liking them means streets need be named after them and not Cesar Chavez or, though it's a bit late, MLK. Just sayin'.

We already have MLK Blvd and I think chavez ave is a great idea. But we do have some amazing writers in this area such as ursula k leguin. I'd love to have a leguin Bvld. If we want nobel prize winners, how about jimmy carter street or mother theresa avenue? They did (or are doing) great things. While we're at it, let's change all the number streets to names of people we like, and if they mostly are writers, I'm all for it. Let's start with local writers first though.

I think in Portland, streets are only named after dead people. Adams is dead, Carter and LeGuin are not. Personally, I think having a park named after Chavez and holding a weekly Farmer's Market would do Chavez more honor than simply naming a street after him. And renaming a street running through Chinatown? Bad move, unless they were trying to put a stop to it.

For that matter, I think that if the city's going to rename a street, then they should offer to pay the expenses for the affected businesses and homeowners.
