HEY all...
Good to see us all upo and winning again. I've been bad about posting my own word count (I have had particular trouble with the site this year- either it or my computer hates me) so I encourage all of you out there in wrimo land not to forget to upload your word counts as the week comes to an end. We can still be #1 in words... I feel it. :) And we ARE #1 in fund raising.
This is just a friendly reminder about Saturday's TGIO party in downtown Seattle. I absolutely encourage all of the gatherings on Fiday night- I know that I'll have to be some place other than my sitting room if I'm to get it done in time. Great to see everyone making use of the fact that this year NaNo ends on a Friday night.

Here are the details of the party on Saturday as posted back in October. Please bring along a page or paragraph that you're particularly proud of (if you have a piece that you are proud of), ice skates if you have them, warm comfortable clothing (gloves are recommended) and anything else that you wish to share with the group (cookies: good, flu germs: bad).

There will be at least one person with internet access throughout the party, so when we lave the skating area and head over to the center house we'll get it up on the forums. Also, if the party breaks up and any large group goes out for an adult beverage or the like, we'll post that, too.

Keep writing, keep winning!

TGIO PARTY: Saturday December 1st from 3:pm til 6:pm at Seattle Center. This is a Seattle wrimo tradition. We will convene at the Seattle Center ice rink at 3:00 and skate for an hour or more. By 4:30 we will move the party into the [much warmer] center house where we will gobble down fudge and beignets (or burritos and pizzas followed by ice cream), share snippets of our novels, and bask in the glow of a mission accomplished.

Hope to see everyone there!

Yay! There will be snow outside! However, when they start saying accumulations of less than an inch, I cease to see what the big deal is.

Pacific Rim whimps.

EDIT: Count me in. I may even bring skates, but don't expect me to bring an excerpt.

Heh. When they start saying accumulations of less than an inch, they mean on the grass and less-traveled sidewalks. Wimps, indeed. I think the newscasters just want something to OMGWTFBBQ about.

Indeed. I lived in Idaho for 6 years. I've seen snow in every month of the year. It amuses me when people think it's the end of the world just because there's - OMG! - frozen rain falling from the sky.

I haven't see the news since Thanksgiving, but judging by what they've got on KOMO's website, I think it'd be safe to guess they've got everyone's favorite logo out.

Well, last year really WAS a WTFBBQ winter, cause we had a windstorm that blew out power across half the city for days. And it's no fun when the power is out and it's freezing weather. A number of families in the area died rather tragically when they tried to keep warm by burning charcoal or wood or running engines in enclosed areas, and killed themselves via carbon monoxide.

However, snow is no biggie. I'm sure all you people east of the mountains can laugh your butts off at us. An inch or two of snow and the whole city screeches to a halt, but that's reason for us to celebrate...

However, I was surprised to see forecasts predicting snow tomorrow. I'll believe it when I see the flakes falling from the sky.

Go to whichever one is closer for you. You'll be welcomed at either one ;)

If you were at any of the Starbucks/Borders write-ins in Tukwila, most of the peeps from those will be at Red Robin.

I too was unable to make any of the write-ins in Tukwila (Starbucks or Borders).

Can we still go to the party if we couldn't do a write-in? I'm nice...

Of course you can. Whichever one you want to go to. Ice Skating in Seattle, or Red Robin in Tukwila. :)

Probably will all be gone in 48 hours, but such is life.

It appears now that we won't be making it to the event after all. DW has just called from the highway begging us not to go out and drive in this. It isn't our ability, but in general the PNW drivers for whom this much snow is cause for utter panic. I'd rather not be on the road with a bunch of panicked drivers who have only seen snow on trips skiing. So, I'll crack a bottle of champagne later this afternoon and toast you all, wishing you the greatest success in the coming year and a happy holiday. And hoping qpeskates ultimately forgives me for ruining her life by not going to Seattle Center this afternoon!

The absence of people can be excused; the roads aren't bad, but the hills and other drivers are!

We're at the rink right now, setup at a table in the back of the ice rink. There are ducks out.

We'll be here at least a bit longer, and then head to the Center House.

Everyone of every age welcome!

PS: Nathan, I prefer toast with whiskey. Johnnie Walker Blue would do nicely. Just a thought. =)

Where can you even find blue? Every liquor store I've been to around here only has black and green.

Not in this state. Remember we live in a state that gets to decide what we drink. And at the largest Scotch emporium in Britain (Vinopolis) that I had occasion to visit last winter, it was in a locked case. When asked if it was worth it (somewhere in the vicinity of #200) I was asked, "to drink or to look at?" Hmmm.

I have paid $40 for a single shot.

I would do so again.

Just not every day. :-)
