so i realized a day or so ago, that i am going to have to admit defeat - i won't be winning this year. i cringe just typing that. i'll be happy at this point if i hit 25,000, and really happy if I can hit 30,000.
i have to say, though, i'm pretty proud of myself for what i've done so far. this month, everyone in my family got sick, twice, i hosted people for a week, and cooked and served thanksgiving for 15 (maybe next year I'll pass on the huge turkey day plans and can win nano!). I'm also a stay-at-home mom of two little munchkins. i think i probably could have finished if i had neglected my children (more than usual, you know), and we'd all eaten take-out everyday, but I'm just not willing to do that. Even winning nanowrimo isn't worth not spending time with them. I know, my priorities are ALL out of order!
so i've realized that i CAN carve out time to write, AND spend time with my kiddos, AND strike some semblance of balance between it all.
and isn't that what nanowrimo is all about? it's like Chris said at the write-a-thon (which helped me log over 5,000 words): winning nanowrimo made him realize if he could write 50,000 words in a month, what ELSE could he do?
do i still get to go to the TGIO party?

Absolutely you better go to the party! And hey--25,000 to 30,000 words is a whole heck of a lot more than most people ever write.
You did great!

Congrats on realizing that you can squeeze in writing. When I was starting out, the hardest thing I found was making time and sitting my butt on the chair. Now you know you can do that, and Shannon is right, 25,000 words is way more of a novel than most people even dream of doing. Keep plugging away at your story!

It's not defeat, it's achievement. Plain and simple. My first year I got to 10,000 words and I have no kids and no distractions at home, and I don't cook, so no Thanksgiving responsibilities. I think you've achieved an enormous amount. Be rightfully proud of yourself.

See you Saturday. Right?????

It took me 10 years to finish my first novel. A first novel is no easy feat.
