This surely has been an amazing month for us all - be we in our teens or in our sixties.

This website is fantastic and the work of the nanowrimo staff is simply splendid. Let's dig deep into our pockets and give a Christmas present to NaNoWriMo. Let's ensure that they will be here for us next year and that more libraries will be built for the kids who may never have seen a library before.

Happy writing and happy Christmas and happy holidays

a) I'm unemployed
b) I donated last year, and look what they did with it

(Not that I'm saying you shouldn't donate, just that I'm not going to)

When you say 'look what they did with it' - what are you referring to Brian?

You know, I'm going to come right out and say it too: last year I donated, this year I've been in two minds. I think it's unlikely I will donate.

For starters, I can't find a breakdown of the income and expenditure for last year.

Next, they've stopped the libraries project.

But the main problem is the state of this site. It was an absolute shambles through October and into the start of November. They still haven't got all the features they had last time around - pull down header menus, proper polls (even I can do those on Drupal, which is free btw).

I'm willing to be told how wrong I am here, I really am. I've enjoyed the challenge this year, as always, and am grateful the project exists. But www.NaNoWriMo.org didn't add very much to my enjoyment this time around. It just doesn't seem like they've done a particularly good job of it this year to me.

Enzo thanks for your message. As a first timer I know nothing of the past years of nano and was not aware that the library project has stopped.

Being disappointed with something is hard. But am glad you enjoyed the challenge and congrats on passing the 50k again.

It might be very useful if those who are much more technically minded than me wrote to CB and voiced their disappointments and concerns.

Have a great relaxing weekend ..

Thanks Aber, and well done on finishing!

The libraries project message is tucked away here:

The site was slow and clunky at times. But miss it if it wasn't here.

Mimimum donation is ten dollars - that's a fiver. If Chris Baty were to turn up to the TGIO party this afternoon, I'd buy the guy a thank you beer, and not think twice about it. And this is better than a thank you beer.

That's the way I think of it, anyway.

See... when you put it like that, it's hard to disagree.

I'm with you. My donation is a token of my gratitude to the NaNoWriMo team for everything I've learned about myself and about writing over the past month. I have produced the first sustained piece of work I have ever managed from a standing start. Nothing else I have tried has ever got me close to this sense of achievement. I also passionately wish something like this had been available to me when I was still at school so I'm really happy to support their Young Writer's Program but, really, Chris can spend it on industrial quantities of superdooper coffee and gummi worms for all I care!

Thanks for your response and so pleased to hear that this has been such a positive experience for you.
I tried to send this as a personal message but that didn't work.
Hope to see your name here next year.

How odd! I've probably done something dumb with the permissions. Never mind. I have every intention of coming back next year and it looks as if I will be bringing at least one friend who has been impressed by my slightly manic demeanour this month and wants to give it a go!
