In past years there has been the option of getting a free copy of your nano novel in book form from LuLu.comif you won Nano. This year they didn't offer such a deal.

I've been keeping a list of bookbinding places because I had hoped to get one of my books bound eventually. Red has done this and I'll post the list of bookbinding places that I have and Red can give the extra information since she has crossed the 't's and dotted the 'i's.

Academic Bookbinding Co 43 Bakewell Road, EVANDALE 8362 3649
Archival Products Aust. Pty Ltd 18 Belfast Street, HENLEY BEACH 8355 2069
Chasdor Bindery Pty Ltd 128 Grange Road, ALLENBY GARDENS 8346 9218
Riggs Bindery 36 Sussex Street, WARRADALE 8296 1049
Vellum Binding and Printing 2 Everard Avenue, KESWICK 8293 2225
William Harley & Son Pty Ltd 28 Dew Street, THEBARTON 8443 7515

(By bound, we're talking perfect bound, spring back, hard cover style. Think of your favourite hard back novel!)

Red I think your book is fantastic. I'm inspired to get my book finished and edited. :-)

Thanks! My sister is writing a book too (a reference book) and has been asking me where she can get it published/bound.

I hope I will someday too, as long as I can remember to cross my 't's and dot my 'i's, and not the other way around.

When I read that I thought I had unknowingly gotten mine the wrong way around :-/

Here is a local, small publisher, that may be interested in your work.

Sorry to be so long replying, but I've been busy catching up on sleep - and printing out three more copies of my book which are now in being bound as well!

The best thing I think with this list of binding services is to phone each one and ask their prices and processes to find which one suits you.

I used William Harley and Sons as their price and location suited me. I continue to use them because I like the energies and demeanor of the gentleman there.

Other places offer discounts per the amount of copies requested. For example (if I recall rightly) while one copy would have cost me about $33 to bind, if I had ordered 100, it would have only been about $12 each.

So, to any and all who wish to have their manuscripts bound, good luck!

Do you have to print out your book first and then take them into be bound or can they print them out as well for you?

Generally you can print it out first (to be sure you keep your layout etc) and take it in to be bound, although I know that some places will print it out for you for an extra fee and then bind it.

I think your best bet would be to call the binder and ask them which is best/going to produce your best book.

So when printing it out, I can do the pages in booklet form, so can that be bound okay, with A4 pages folded into half to make A5 size?

Oh yeah. I bind my own books and if you have Microsoft word I think you can print it out in booklet form (A5 from A4 sheets). I don't know how much you know about this but there are some great tutorials about it over on LiveJournal. http://community.livejournal.com/handmadebooks/ I don't know where the tutorials are within this community, my searching powers have failed me tonight.

A binder would be able to advise you on how to do this as well. I'm sure if you ask them they could show you how to do it or do it for you.

The photocopier/printer we have here at work can do booklet form printing, so that won't be to much of a problem. I have started looking into where to go now myself. Of course, it means it will have to be sent via the post or next time I am in Adelaide.
