I have managed to make it to the 45,000 word mark this evening, but my protagonist is still in hospital, LOL.

Will my story ever end ??????

Will he manage to get out of hospital by the time NaNo finishes ?

I am begining to think this story may end up being part of a series at this rate............. :-)
Word War Info - Updated 21 Nov.

Hi all,

This thread is primarily for me to post info about the Word War to all competitors, so it's being cross-posted to all the regions taking part. If you want to make any comments, however, feel free. :-)

ETA: Here's the link to the leader board: http://www.annelyle.com/projects/scoreboard.html

The regions currently signed up are:

Birmingham
Brighton
Cambridge
Darlington
Devon & Cornwall
Essex
Gloustershire
Lancaster & Cumbria
Leicester
London
Manchester
Newcastle
Norfolk
Oxfordshire
York & Leeds
Dublin
Edinburgh
Glasgow
Eng: Elsewhere
Scot: Elsewhere
Wales

Only one region has given a definite No, so we may get a lot more before the 10th. Here's hoping. :-)

All those regions that are signed up should have a Banter thread, so feel free to go over and give them hell (but in a nice way). :-)

There may be a slight delay in the War starting up, as we're reliant on the site API working and the site is notoriously slow during the first few days of Nano, plus we're running it in a slightly different way this year and I'm not sure what problems will crop up because of that. In addition, one of Anne's cats is very seriously ill at the moment, so she may not have time to work on it. I'll be in touch with her and will let all the relevant MLs know if we have to make other arrangements at all. I'll also be in touch when I know the URL of the leader board. :-)

----------
Lottie
I'll sleep when I'm dead.

ML Wordcount Sweepstake

This is going to be interesting...

How many words do you think I will have typed in my NaNo novel by the end of the month?

Everyone on the forum can enter once - just post a reply to this thread giving your estimate. You must post by midnight on Monday 23rd November, just to make it fair. I will get my wordcount verified on 30th November and work out who's closest.

The winner will get a signed copy of my latest published book, "Manuscript and Other Stories", presented at the Wrap-up party on December 6th: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3452192

Okay, I'll post the book after the party if you can't make it to the wrap-up.

You can all see my current wordcount. You can also see my history of NaNo scores to date. This should give you an idea of how many words I might type this year.

You may also like to know that I will take Tuesday 17th off - it's my birthday. I will type no more than 20 words on this day!

Remember - only post once on this thread and give your best guess. There's another thread on which you can take the mickey out of me for being such a sad ###

So - how many words do you think your ML will type this month?

----------
2008 The Second Time: Milk and Honey - 202,246
The "I haven't done as much Nano as I wanted to" thread

Not reached your word count for the day? For the month? Come on, let's hear those excuses!

I, for example, was aiming before the weekend for 60K. That went down the pan as I have done nothing over the weekend (Rugby on Saturday and completely crashed on Sunday, headaches and sleep all day.) And today I have a load of homework, have spent all morning on the phone to the Ospreys (about international tickets).

And I solemnly swear that if I don't get to 50K by Friday, that someone on here is allowed to mug me for my Wales Australia ticket.

Oh, dear. I better get Nanoing. (or that's a very much wasted £60).
----------
I do not like the cone of shame...
Maybe it's a stupid theory or maybe just stupidity
And y'all think I'm cwazie!

Final Week!!!!!!!!!!!!

Okay, here we go on the home straight. Your plot is shaing up nicely, your baddie keeps laughing in a maniacal (and wordy) fashion and your fight scenes are getting longer. Your adverbs and adjectives are breeding like rabbits and your prose is so purple is starting to look like one of my hats.

Sorry - I can't seem to type short, sensible sentences any more.

One NaNo-er has posted on the 40K thread that mindless violence increases their wordcount. I've just had a raft built and then sunk and my characters are struggling to reach the shore - someof them won't make it - Mwaaa-ha-ha-haaaaaa! Is anyone else enjoying a spurt of words in their story? Where's it coming from? What delights are you inflicting on those poor people?
Relief!

For those of you who were in Shot on Wednesday to witness my plot-meltdown (and subsequent cake): I seem to have found a way to finish the story after all! I took someone's very brilliant advice of just giving my character whatever it was she needed. And then I threw in a genie for good measure.

So now, she has a house, and money. But, there's a catch (thank goodness!): she only has it for a year. Then, it is all taken away and she only gets to keep any extra money she has made (or anything she's bought with it).

I am so pleased that I have managed to find some semblance of a plot again, and just wanted to share the relief. Now, to continue catching up.... Only 4000+ words to go.
Climactic fights!

Does anyone else have one of these planned, or have you already passed the 50k mark, and have had a big fight? Did you find it easy to pace yourself?
I keep having to stop for five minutes to calm down, as Its quite exciting (to me, at any rate), There are three fights going on at the same time, from four perspectives (Three police teams, and the baddies)
Did you find yourselves racing along , doing thousands of words without even stopping for a coffee, or did you meticulously plan it all out in advance?

My wife is looking askance at me as I feverishly hammer my keyboard, heart in mouth.
I think I better stop for a ciggy before I start to froth at the mouth.
Co-ML Needed

Is anyone interested in signing up as Co-ML next year? It would be really helpful if someone wanted to help out with minding the forum. There is an agreement you have to sign (there's always red tape) but we could split some of the duties between us. You would need to promise to write the full 50K and other things. If you're further north in Wales, you could help organise meetups in places that I can't reach.

If you're interested, please drop me a private message (click on my name and then on "send a message"). Any general questions, please post them on here as it may interest other people, too.

Thanks,
Jay

Sunday, 6th December, 12 noon. Prince of Wales in Cardiff.

This is an excuse for us all to get together, congratulate each other on our word counts and look forward to next year.

Week Three Doldrums

So, we're more than halfway through November. Your ML is smugly clocking up the words and you dont believe you're ever going to make it.

But you can!

Seriously the first year I NaNo-ed, I nearly gave up in the third week. But I didn't.

And the rest is history, as they say.

So where do you find those words you need? At this point, I'd suggest your characters might start telling each other stories. Or relating their dreams so that the others can discuss what it might mean. This is a great way to work in stories that don't appear to have anything to do with your main plot and odd little bits that have occurred to you but you can't find an excuse to work them in.

In other words - week three is when my characters get a bit silly, and yours have my permission to do the same. Go on - it's more fun than you think.

Speaking of fun, I'm about to post a little competition to get everyone watching my obscene word count closely. Watch this forum...

I am doing the happy dance as I have cracked the 30k mark today, despite having to stop and do mundane things like feed the kids and the dog, and iron clothes for the children to wear to school tomorrow.

I'm all written out for today, and shall relax with my box of Quality Street choccies. I am promising myself a whole tin if I manage 50k by the end of the month :-)
Still not at 20K.....what do you MEAN 25K?

Ok basically this is for all those who, like myself, for one reason or another have fallen a little behind.
Fine, we're WAY behind but that's not the point. Get yourselves in gear people we have a novel to write!

We're doing this because it's what we were born to do. This is something we have a natural affintity for. It IS a gift! Not everyone in this world has the guts to do what we decided to get down and do at the beginning of this month. Yes it's difficult, yes there's this thing called 'life' which seems only to affect us and not those godlike people who have already met and exceeded 50K words *coughJayWalkercough*

We all have our exscuses. Maybe we even have those elusive things called 'reasons' nevertheless it is time we started doing what we set out to do. no matter how crazy, stupid, boring, monotonous or any negative word you could put to your work now, and if you're like me there's a lot! You must fight on! We must continue!

Think back, to that time when you decided "I'll sign up in November for that nano-thing" Re-read your first page or two, remind yourself about that spark that started this whole crazy-ass escapade and hold it, capture it solidly and return pen to paper, fingers to keyboard and forehead to desk. It is time to finish what we started!!

Who's with me?!
How Many Words Will a Welsh ML Type?

Okay, here's a strange idea.

How many words do you think I will have typed by the end of November?

I'm going to start another thread for people to enter their guess at the number of words I will have verifiied ta the end of the month. You can post on this thread as many times as you like and take the mickey out of me for being such a sad ####

I will have my word count verified on the 30th November and whoever gets closest wins!

There will be a copy of my latest ublished book for th eperson who gets closest to my score at the end of the month.
