Sister "city"?

I was just having a break (read: procrastinating) and having a look at the Perth :: North forum and I notice that they are having a competition / war with a region in the US. They have some people from there posting on their forums and it sounds like a lot of fun.

Could we consider doing something like this? Maybe for next year or even this year if we can manage something.

I like the idea of finding another Elsewhere in XX region, another group of "Elsewhere Wrimos" and dealing with them. I notice there is an Elsewhere in England and an Elsewhere in Canada. Probably more but I didn't look past the first page.

Anyone else like this idea or is it just me? Perhaps look to our MLs for doing the diplomacy on this?

Elsewhere Australia Night of Writing Dangerously!

So, some interest has been perked about us maybe meeting up next year to host our own little Night of Writing Dangerously, like the one being held at this very moment: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/writeathon

I think this would be a fantastic idea and I'd only be too eager to organise our own... yet it remains just a little problem of where and when, etc! Especially hard since we're all so spread out, and very rural too (otherwise we wouldn't be Elsewhere!)

So. I want to know who's interested. That will help us decide (together, as a group, I don't want to make the final decision) as to where it will be. A time and date can be decided later (although I think it would be best to do it earlier in the year, rather than the 22nd... as quite a few of us seem to have already finished and as such wouldn't be as driven to write as much as possible we we should...)

So... uhm. Who would be interested! And if you are, where would you propose be the best place for us to all meet up easily? Taking into consideration cheap to fly to, a place we could use as the venue, accommodation nearby... that kind of thing.

I know in Darwin I could very likely get us a free venue, but I know Darwin is too expensive to get to. Any better ideas?

Just a thread for your thoughts so far!

For me... well, today I broke out my rewards scheme. Mini-toblerones. Yup, I bribe myself with chocolate! Every thousand words, I get a choccie, and you know what, it works!

I've been struggling since I have assignments due, and once I write them one of the last things I want to do is try and think creatively. I thought I was stuck today, so I headed to my favourite local cafe, broke out the notebook and pen and scribbled down a few things. Then I went and bought mini-toblerones!

And then tonight I've written almost 2k words that I didn't have this morning! And I don't hate them, which is always a nice bonus! And I can finally stop referring to my MC as 'the woman' and 'she' 'cause she has remembered her name!

And that's where I am now. How about the rest of you?

Newcastle Write-In

Hi guys, this is a cross-post from the Sydney region. It is so hard to keep track of everyone without our own region!

So we had our first write-in this evening, a small informal gathering that went rather well. Everyone increased their wordcount and we all made new friends. I want to give a big thanks to Jimbot, Rubia and Lanthir_imladiell for joining me.

We will be holding another write-in next Monday too and would love for anyone else that can make it to come along;

ANNOUNCEMENT - 11/22 Evening of Scribbling Recklessly - Nashville, TN

Dear Neighboring Regions (and Australia),
Greetings from fly, the ML for NaNo Nashville. This year, we are having our own ginormous write a thon, which we'll be holding the same time those out in Cali are having theirs (well, mostly). We would very much like you all to come. In fact, I would very much like to have so many writers that our total writers word count EXCEEDS that of the Cali event.

Details are as follows. Please post here if you can come.
NOTE: You only need to RSVP to one thread for this event.

The Evening of Scribbling Recklessly is on 11/22 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Nashville.

Where: 2300 Knights of Columbus Blvd. Nashville, TN

Where? - From I-40, exit Briley Parkway South (exit 215A), take the first LEFT onto Knights of Columbus Blvd.

When - 11/22 from 4-10 PM.

Important Notes:
$10 donation required for admission. This is in addition to any donation you've made. I will waive this for anyone that can prove they came from Australia.
Bring a side dish to share. Remember, we're pretty much all going to have computers handy, so stay away from really messy stuff. :)

We will be having a ton of giveaways.
You can get tickets for these givaways in a number of ways:
- Admission fee. Yes, you automatically get tickets for showing up.
- Bringing a dish to share like you're supposed to
- Wear a NaNo t-shirt. This can be from any year, and can be national or regional. I'll also accept Script Frenzy and Office of Letters and Light shirts for this.

- Additional tickets can be purchased.

Ever since I learned about the auto summarize tool in Word, I got a big kick out of over summarizing long documents. For example, Pride and Prejudice in 10 sentences is:

I find it works best when you get it to summerise your work down to just ten lines, but it can do any amount.

It's been suggested I post both chat things here so you can try them out

Meebo chat

IRC chat (alternatively irc.sff.net #NaNoElsewhereAu if you have the software already).

(And if you're wondering why I'm bothering with putting an alternative when they might seem the same on the surface, it's that IRC is more flexible (and the staff are helpful) and adaptable. If there's a strong preference for Meebo I'm happy to go with that ~~actually being old and cranky~~ but if both seem good, I'd suggest the IRC chat as being the best choice esp. in the long run. It will be there next year, even if we never use it for 11 months.)
