I've been saving this as a nitro boost: nestled in the heart of Tiplerite is the original short story I used to create the background of the novel, which I finally inserted today.

1800 word boost immediately.

-You write death scenes just to have extra words

-Your plot gets ridiculously redundant

-Your characters break the fourth wall

-You do a find-replace on all of your contractions

Accomplishments

Who cares about word count? Doesn't matter if you're at 1k or 100k, you're bringing SOMETHING out of the NaNo experience. What did you accomplish during NaNo? If you think it's an accomplishment, then it is!

It can be anything from an improved WPM, improved writing quality, writing an awesome scene, writing nonstop for an hour, getting 10k in a day... In the end, everyone's a winner! (It's not quite the end yet though so if you give up... *threatening look*)

(accoplishments also extend to being able to avoid the toilet for the next 45 minutes while you type out the next, grueling 1000 words. Or even hitting 1k if you don't usually do that. Again, if you think it's an accomplishment, then it is.)

(...giving up coffee would also be an accomplishment, though I'm not sure that serves any actual purpose)

I was poking around the Horror genre forums and I came across this thread: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3392471, which I thought would be pretty fun to bring over to the regional forums.

You basically post a line you wrote today; it can be any line, for whatever reasons- it's funny, it's a pivotal line for plot development, it should you a side of your character you didn't know- anything goes!

Word Wars!

Anyone up for word wars?

I don't mind running it this year (though I'm not sure whether there are prizes provided -> ask the MLs)

For those of you who aren't familiar with word wars, word wars is where us wrimos will represent our different parts of Singapore in a mean competition of word production. Every week (that would be every Sunday), the total word count of all the participants will be tallied and averaged and that number will be the score for the zone for that week.

So here are the zones that can register for (i.e. where you live now)

Zones:
1) East
2) West
3) North
4) South
5) Overseas

Reply to this post with your zone if you want to participate.

Registration will close Sunday, 8th of November and the results from the first week will be out on Monday, 9th.

I'm sure we all have the same problem of our MCs suddenly developing a mind of their own (with an attitude to accompany it) and deciding that they're gonna do things their way. With 10 days to Nano and no conceivable plot in sight, I figured this thread was more than overdue. Plus, we've all turned whinging into an art form really.

WHY WHY WHY DO I NOT HAVE A PLOT? WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME THIS YEAR?! I JUST KNOW THAT I'M GOING TO END UP IRRITATED AT MY CHARACTERS AND WASTING TIME ON EXPOSITION AND THEN 30 NOVEMBER WILL ROLL AROUND AND I'M STILL STUCK ON WHAT COLOUR THE HERO'S ~~TIGHTS~~ ~~SPANDEX~~ PANTS ARE GONNA BEEEEEEE.

A thread for when we're not entirely sure if a piece sounds the way we want it to and figure a second opinion might be helpful. I recognise that not everybody works this way, but I know I do.

My request:

I need to know how the conversation sounds to everyone, please. Does it sound natural, and how does each party come off?

(Earlier in the story, Rain asked Mina if he could buy her a drink sometime. She said "no". Now:)

Trying to sustain the writing mojo and keeping the muse entertained usually involves beverages/snacks to fuel the engine. So what do you have when you're writing?

I'm all about caffeine, salts and sugars. I drink copious amounts of tea and coffee, with a side of chips or something sweet.
