I have two characters. Neither of them want to admit they they think the other is amazing, cute, and they want to date them.

Man: In the FBI, very well cultured, and very sweet. He is a bit controlling, which the girl totally digs, but it's in a good way. He never takes no for an answer. He has high class fasion, a nice car, and the cutest smile. He's never actually dated, however, and doesn't know how to go about things.

Woman: She's a college bred archeologist... pretty smart too. She's pretty, cultured, and enjoys the same things the man does. However, she's in denial, and even though she has strong feelings for the guy she doesn't think he would ever go for her.

What should I do? I want them to start to hook up soon, because I think it would be... you know... cute.

Well, it sounds like the guy would be the one who asks the girl out. So maybe one of his friends bets that he won't ask this girl out?

Maybe, but i don't see him following up on a bet or being coerced to do something.

If he doesn't date, he probably reads and maybe he reads archeology, a side interest of his. Maybe they bumped, not literally, into each other in the state library and she sees a book he is holding and has to tell him the author was her favorite professor at such and such university!

Or...

Maybe you could work out the case he is working on to lead him to her for her expertise? And of course, he knows nothing about archeology and she is talking in scientific jargon and as he brings her humbly down, his heart humbly rises up! Well at least something gets caught in his throat!!! Damned heart!

And then...

There's always the art museum as a meeting place where they disagree with a particular piece and become so engrossed in their lovely little romantic debate that they don't realize until the end how much they really enjoyed the conversation... and that cute little smile the other has!

=) jade

Love exists and does solve one problem... the throat problem.

Aww... so, how about: they're friends and all, they're talking, and one of them just spills, in a moment of brain-no-workingness "I really like you", or something similar?

Hope you figure it out. ^_^

This is more of a plot question, so I'm going to move this over to Plot Doctoring.

Like someone above says, perhaps one of them spills?
Or maybe, if they get into an argument about something, one of them says, "I cannot for the life of me see why I LIKE you!" and it comes out of the bag. xD

You can always have their environment physically force them together. Maybe they're stuck in a room together, caught under a tree in a rainstorm, or they have to drive long-distance together. Their conversation could slowly turn personal, and then one of them slips, or maybe it's more of a physical thing at first, like she finally realizes how good he smells, or he realizes that he loves the way she laughs. Then they meet eyes and realize that the feelings are mutual!

Or maybe I've been reading too many romance novels. :)

Actually, Alhara, that's kinda cute, hehe. I think he will kiss her first... while it's raining. I love all that cute stuff happening when it rains... then again, I have also killed characters in the rain 0.o

Hahaha, I can see it now...he leans in for the kiss, and then LIGHTNING ZAPS THEM BOTH DEAD.

That might not be good for your word count.

Actually, I saw lightning just hit him before she touched him so she leans in and kisses a dead man... she'll have an ashy mouth in the end? hehehehe
I can see word count soaring, cause she sees dead people now!
LOL

Why hasn't he ever dated before? He's in the FBI, so he's obviously an adult, and he's the won't-take-no-for-an-answer type, so it confidence isn't his problem. I can think of some good reasons, but I wonder what reason you're using. I think it makes a difference in how he's going to approach her.

Confidence does seem to be the woman's problem. She likes him, but she can't tell him because she doesn't think he's interested. Maybe you can try getting her drunk?

Have them get stuck in an elevator together.

A third party could figure out what's going on and let them know. "Hey, guys, now that we're all here having coffee, I'm going to leave because you two clearly really like each other and need to do something about it."

Well, he's never dated before because no women ever interested him. Along with being in the FBI, he's also with this secret guild, that stole a lot of his teenage years with studies and world adventures and what-not. Now as an adult, he just finds most women annoying. He likes my FMC because she's educated and not hanging all over him like most women he's met do.

He did have a relationship with a previous girl, but that was more of a "friends-with-benifits" thing and he broke it off because he felt used.

Just have them do stuff together "just friends" of course. As in they're dating, but they're not dating.

Or just have a really nosy friend make one of them say it. Probably the girl, but have him and her have a great time together before that.

I was friends with my boyfriend for years and years. We managed to get it together for very silly reasons. I had travelled in to the city (abroad) where he now lives, having left the house at 5am and endured complicated plane and bus journies with a suitcase. So I was stressed as hell! I finally arrive at the station and just take his hand so I don't get lost crossing large European city on the underground. Chemistry began and everything went from there. He moved in for the first kiss on his apartment balcony in a rainstorm over wine and strawberries. Might be some potential story ideas there for you.

wow, this is like the story of my life, lol.

I'm a little in denial about liking this guy who I don't think would go for me (theme song: I Won't Say from Hercules), and I definitely "dig" his mild controllishness (which i thought was a hilarious word to use considering she's an archaeologist). Anyway, if it really is anything in you book like it is for me in real life, she'll ask him to accompany her to something that is supposedly "not a date" and he'll eventually ask her to something that looks slightly more like a date but still "isn't" and finally (though *my* story i haven't gotten this far, lol) the two of them will just end up making it a regular thing. Or, for a little more flair, have them bump into each other completely randomly at a restaurant or something and have the incident evolve into their first "official" date.
