Cape Town you have 2 ML's this year or at the very least 1.5.

I have relocated to the shadow of the mountain and have teamed up with Immoline to run the show. She however has a much adorable sproglet who eats much of her time away so I will be doing much of the leg work as I apparently have free time *cough*

So who else is checking in from beneath "that there weather rock" as I officially call the disappearing Mountain you guys predict weather with?

So what are you doing to be writing about this year?

I'm one of those people who has to work off a plotline with tons of notes and recently I have been asking people very personal questions as part of my research - I'm busy tackling a romance novel at the moment so you can just imagine how personal.

So how many of you have plots thrashed out already and what are you going to be writing about? Because I started the thread I will roll the ball down the alley.

Genre: Prolly romance
MFC: Is part of a Search and Rescue team and to make it interesting, I am toying with the idea of making her psychic.
MMC: Works for the aviation authority, investigating aircraft accidents.
Plot: They meet, they argue, they fall in love, they have moments of angst because they can't love each other, they submit to their feelings and live happily ever after - romance is so easy to write. LOL

My poison:
Coffee during the day.
A glass of wine or two at night (this usually means I have to rewrite most of it the next morning).
Cigarettes - yes, I know, tar and feather me.

Spreading the word

Hi all

Obviously we all know that nanowrimo is the best thing about November (or possibly the whole year). But think of all those poor people who have never heard of it. How sad. Last year there were roughly 100 000 writers world-wide, with just over 100 South Africans. There are already 8000 people signed up for this year, with 27 of them South African. Whoohoo!!

But we can do better than that. Now that the site is (hopefully) working again, lets all work at spreading the word. And use this thread to share ideas.

The site has some nice posters you can download and print. I will be putting posters at the public library and the community notice boards outside the two main supermarkets in my town. Depending on my energy, I might stick a few up around town. Good places to target - bookshops, stationery shops, food and drink places.

I have also started to email all my friends. Um, okay pretty much everyone whose email address is on my computer. Cos we all know that word of mouth is the best way to advertise. You might send to someone who is not interested, but they know someone else who might be keen. And off the message goes.

Anyone else got bright ideas about advertising?

I've decided I'm going to try for some straight-up fantasy this year :) I'll write my chicken thing for fun if I somehow end up with time.

I'm going to sit and create a world with people and so on this weekend so that should be fun.

I have two questions for anyone who writes/wrote/is writing fantasy:

1) Do you sit and create backgrounds, people and all that sorta stuff?
2) Anyone want some free backgrounds, people and stuff while I'm at it?

In an effort not to poke at my own story to be so much, I have made the grave mistake of doing a short write up of a possible RP idea and had a couple of misguided souls tell me they liked it and wanted to play. Now it is threatening to take over my brain. Like I need demons and hellbeasts running riot in my head?

Since we all no doubt need time to prepare I thought I'd start a chain thread just for us South Africans.

For the uninitiated, a chain thread works like this:

Person A: Once upon a time
Person B: there was a little boy
Person C: who had no legs.
Person A: One day he fell in the lake.
Person B: His name was Bob.

So rules:

1) In the spirit of NaNo, each poster must post a paragraph rather than a word or single sentence.
2) Don't worry about chronology, genre or anything like that.
3) Each paragraph must link in some way to the last.

So here we go:

Lightning flashed across the mountains, illuminating a group of worried looking villagers. They huddled together in the rain and peered up at the castle. Sputtering torches drove flickering light across their faces and threw strange shadows from their rusty pitchforks. When it became clear that none of them wanted to be the first, one of the men stepped forward and raised his torch high in the air.
