North Raleigh Pajama and Hot Cocoa Write - In Nov. 21

Terri and I are planning to host our second annual pajama and hot cocoa write-in at our home in North Raleigh on Saturday, Nov. 21 from 7pm until the cocoa runs out. We live in the Wakefield Plantation neighborhood (Falls of Neuse and Wakefield Pines Dr) on the north end of Raleigh just south of Wake Forest.

Those of you who attended last year will (hopefully) remember it as a relaxed and fun gathering. Everyone found a comfortable spot to relax in their PJ's and write, when they weren't taking a break for coffee, cocoa, goodies and sharing story ideas.

For those who couldn't make it, hopefully this will be your year. Those who aren't sure if they attended, check your cocoa!

Please let us know if you're interested in attending this year's event. We haven't had the chance to meet many of you in person but hope that you will still consider yourselves invited.

Tuesday Write-A-Thon

A day off work, finally, and I find myself quite behind on my word count. Fifty-thousand is a bit much, and I knew it from the get go, but my personal goal of 30,000 words still remains a good distance off. In light of this, I'm going to make tomorrow a bit of a personal write-a-thon hopping from coffeeshop to coffeeshop in an effort to bring this novel along. If you're like me and would like to catch up on some writing tomorrow and looking for support or someone to commiserate with, I'd be glad to have company. I'll be bouncing around the hillsborough street area, probably hitting up Global Village in the morning, Royal Bean sometime in the afternoon and from there... who knows.

I will not have a sign, but I will be a tall-blonde with a black shirt with a yellow graphic and white lettering. If you want to join up, nanomail me or reply to this.

Cary Borders Tonight

Brier Creek Area Spur-of-the-Moment Write-In Tonight (Monday)

Two intrepid NaNo authors will be meeting from 8:30 am to 11:30 am on Wednesday, November 25, at the New World Cafe. The location is in the Pleasant Valley shopping center, Pleasant Valley off of Rt# 70, Glenwood Ave., just south of Millbrook. The coffee shop is on Pleasant Valley Road and has a sign that says "Coffee Shop." I'll have a sign that says "NaNoWriMo."

Write-in/meetups in Beaver Creek/Apex area?

I am in Fuquay and I saw there were several people meeting up in the Brier Creek Area and wanted to see if anyone is Interested in meeting over in the Beaver Creek Apex area? I am a Stay at home Mom and my kids have preschool MWF mornings or I can meet any evening after 6:00. Just seems like meeting up with people with the intention gives you permission to take the time to write without feeling guilty that the laundry is not done and you are going to be feeding the kids cereal for dinner the whole month of November.

BE WARNED... I'M ABOUT TO SPEND A FEW MINUTES BEGGING FOR HELP AND IN SHAMELESS SELF-PROMOTION:

I have a blog...GASP (don't we all?)...it is called "WRITERS WRITE...OR DO THEY? I am looking for followers...correction...I am looking for NUMBERS. In querying for my completed novel DEADLY LETTERS and what will be my second completed novel "DAMAGED GOODS" (after NaNo challenge) ...I mention my blog. I NEED followers. I NEED people to give me a hand, by logging on and signing on as followers. It doesn't matter if you never read even one word of what's written there...I just need the 'warm bodies'.

Please, please...yes, this is me begging...take two minutes (a break from NaNo perhaps) and sign on as a follower. It's a one time deal and then you never have to visit the site again, unless you find me amusing or informative in some way and want to follow my ramblings.

I'm actually located in NE Durham and was wondering if there is anyone here who would be interested in meeting for a write-in nearby. Probably locations can include the East Regional library, Northgate Mall, Starbucks on 54/Imperial, or other similar locations. My best night is Monday, but I live in Durham and going back to Cary is too long a drive for me. Is anyone else interested in Monday night write-in in the Durham/RTP area?

I know there are scheduled write-in's which is fine. However some I just can't get to. I was wondering if anyone is interested in meeting today and possibly every Sunday through Thanksgiving. I'm open to just about anywhere--say a Borders or Panera. I'm near Brier Creek, Crabtree and Triangle Town center!! I find the (I think it's Books a Million or Borders) at Triangle town center is really good.

If anyone is available today (I know it's late) let me know...It's hard for me to write at home with so many distractions.

Meeting for Drinks Next Week?

Forgive me as I assume the limp of Mephistopheles and, for a moment, play the Tempter. But I have corresponded with a couple of WriMos about gathering for drinks and conversation (no laptops!) sometime during the month, and I was thinking perhaps next Monday (11/16) would be a good time to meet for pints and merrymaking. Caitlin (leanan_sidhe) suggested The Flying Saucer, as Monday night they have pint night where most of their drafts are $2.75. I also have a fondness for Mitch's on Hillsborough Street as I find its subdued tavern atmosphere perfect for meeting friends for a drink. But I am amenable to meet most any place where ale and conversation flow.

Would anyone else have an interest in this little distraction next Monday? Consider it a mid-month break and celebration at arriving this far. If you reply with your availability and any ideas or preferences on where we might meet, I'll try to coordinate communication and timing on this.

NCSU-Area Write-Ins/Meetups?

I'm a student at NCSU and while I'm not opposed to driving out for write-ins (and probably will), is there anyone in the area who'd like to schedule some write-ins or just general meetups (perhaps one in October just to get to know each other and talk about how we've been preparing)? The Cup A Joe at Mission Valley would probably be a most excellent place, in my humble opinion, but I'm open to other suggestions!

By the way, for those who didn't see my post in the first thread, I'm Caitlin. I've made halfhearted stabs at NaNo in past years but this year I am 100% serious about it. I've already been doing word sprints with a friend (it's like training for the English major Olympics!) and we're hella excited. I want to find more people in the area who are similarly excited. :D

Hello everyone. This is my first NaNoWriMo, and I was confused about the word count to start out. I set a very high goal for myself thinking that I was going to need so much more than was required. So here it is November 14, and I've got 54,704 words already! But I'm nowhere near finished! I feel like I've got another 2/3 to go til it's actually finished!

Any advice for the long-winded? Should I keep going or start editing and paring it down?

So, it's been brought to my attention that the calendar link I provided has been buried in the forums. It won't do anyone any good there, so let's put it where everyone can see it.

You should be able to link to this calendar and add it to your bookmarks, so you can keep it as a reference for write-ins here in the area.

Now, you'll notice that there are several write-ins up there already. Those are the ones I intend to do. But, if you can't make it out to those, that's not very helpful, right? And I've noticed some of you planning write-ins together on other threads, which is fantastic.

I want to help. Here's how - if you guys decide on any specific dates for write-ins that you want to do in other places at other times, post the details here in this thread. I will make sure that they get posted up on the calendar. That way, the calendar is a useful reference for you, too.
