The Indianapolis TGIO will be on Saturday, December 5th. Tara and I are planning for mid/late afternoon or dinner time, and though we have a couple of locations in mind, we need a rough idea of numbers before we can finalize anything.

What we do know is that the TGIO will be all ages, open to all participants (as well as family and friends) regardless of final word count, 1-2 hours long, and in a somewhat central location if possible.

We traditionally bring an Auto Summary of our novels to read (more on this later), and we have a few other ideas bouncing around. Let us know in the next 2-3 days if you can come (say yes!), and we'll set to finalizing plans.

IUPUI Monday Write In

Okay, so I do not remember what we decided at all in the chatroom last night. What I do know is:

When: Monday, weekly
Time: from 2:30-3ish until around 5:45pm
Where: On campus at IUPUI

We're either going to meet on the second floor of the Campus Center over across from the Caribou Coffee and the Sub place where the plugs are(I'll bring a power strip) OR in a computer lab in ET. I have no preferences but since I can't remember the room number for that lab(sooo should've written it down) I would say we should meet in CE for this week at least and decide future meeting spots then.

If Phys or anyone else remembers and let's me know though the above suggestion can be nullified. If there are no new posts in this thread before midnight tonight assume that I'll be in CE. I have a black laptop with a white Nano sticker on the back and a bright yellow Write In sign from last year. It will be displayed prominently.

Overnight/Lock-in write-in November 28th?

I've talked to a few people about this, and don't remember who was supposed to post on the forums about it, but I don't see anything, so thought I'd go ahead and do it.

Would anyone be interested in having a write-in late at night on Nov. 28th (the Saturday night after turkey day)? The general consensus was that we'd find someplace open 24hrs that served coffee and such, and have one last big push to get us all to 50k.

Please post if you'd be up for that and/or if you have suggestions as to where we should do it.

This is exhilarating! Since this is my first try, I didn't know how I would do sitting and sitting while I typed. Well the first two days have just kept the creative juices flowing. My story contains scenes that I did not realize would happen.

Southsider meet ups?

It's not like I can't get downtown for a meet up, but I thought I'd see if anyone else on the south side would like to meet up somewhere down here sometime.

I can't write at the meet-ups (no laptop, alas,) but I figured we could get together for a bit of a whine over coffee, slouching around in our boho outfits and berets, looking like the tortured writers we are. Make for a good show, if nothing else!

Weird. Unless I'm really that tired, I don't see where we've started the list on who is going to attend the write-in/meetup tomorrow at Mo'Joe's.

I plan on being there, hopefully for a very large portion of it.

Anyone else care to weigh in and let the MLs know what we may expect at the tables - the lovely tables, one of which Mo'Joe's actually bought just for us because we are awesome and show up with *many* dedicated and fantastic people who write and are pleasant and wonderful and difficult to find enough positive adjectives to describe?

Hello from a crazy first-timer

Hey, y'all. I thought I'd drop in and introduce myself to give me a sense of "Hey, I'm not the only insane one here!" My name's Stephanie, and I'm a seventeen-year-old high school senior (home schooled) living down here in Mooresville. This is my first NaNoWriMo, but it's not the first time I've written a big story. My longest fan-fiction (for the Maximum Ride book series) ended up totaling 150,000 words. Yes, seriously. I wrote three times what I'm expected to write here just for my own pleasure. I know, I'm insane.

Nonetheless... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!

Because did I mention that the 150k words took me over a year to write? And did I mention I wasn't doing at least 2,000 words per day? (A 12k-word chapter took me a three days of nonstop typing, but that was the one exception.) And did I mention that I'm doing my regular senior-year work in addition to two online courses through Ivy Tech? See? Now you KNOW I'm insane.

Still, I'm here to try. If I don't make it to 50,000 words, at least I'll have a good start on a book to try to publish. I feel as if I'm on track, though; I've spent the past 13,635 words just setting up for my plot. This week... I get to get into the plot, oh yes! Finally! Some excitement! More characters (I've got at least six waiting in the wings)! Yay!

So, you know what? Hello, good luck to all, and I'm going to go do 40 more minutes of homework so I can get to today's word goal over my lunch break.

computer dummy needs help

Well, I was up to 32,000 words today . I tried to save the story from my flash drive back to My Documents, and lost it all. apparently I saved from the 28,000 word document to the 32,000 word document which left me with 28,000 words again and all of today's work lost. Yes, I cried. Does anyone have suggestions as to how to retrieve what has apparently been deleted? Neither my husband nor I can find a restore or document recovery in our system.

Meanwhile, I will be reconstructing most of the night. Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

I thought I would throw this out to the universe, or more specifically the Indianapolis region of NaNoers. I pulled my NaNo story up from last year. Sidebar for newbies, this is actually kind of cool. I put it aside for a year because I thought it was crap, jumped into this year, now I am fired up to start doing some rewrites on last year's. Sometimes it helps to step back for some time.

Anyway, one of my key characters is twenty-something, very smart, but flighty and not really keen on growing up. His father agrees to pay for SOMETHING if he moves back home to finish his thesis. Whatever this something is, it juts him on a new path. For the original story, I had him taking an independent filmmaking class. Part of the story is he his recording his feisty Italian great-grandmother's stories. I know nothing about indy filmmaking, except I like them and I don't know that I can get things right.

Does anyone have any thoughts about what that SOMETHING could be? It is set in New York City, so possibly a lot of opportunities for him.

Broad Ripple Writers

I've been skimming the messages and seeing there are a few writers in Broad Ripple. Anybody want to schedule a regular meetup in one of the coffee shops around here? I'm a fan of the Monon Coffee Co and also that place that is next to Moe & Johnny's (I forget the name). Would prefer to do weekday evenings, but I'm open to whatever people might suggest.

We have discovered it is comedy night at Lazy Daze Coffee House on Mondays. While it has provided some entertaining moments, it is just too crowded and noisy to write. Next Monday we will meet at the Irvington Starbuck's just down the street instead.

I don't know if it's the music, or I'm actually writing this properly, but I'm kind of coming to tears on my story. It's hit a dark point. Does that make me exceptionally arrogant about my story, or just susceptible to my own whims? Has anyone else ever made themselve cry during a scene in their story?
