Hey! I'm a fairly recent transplant (from Columbia, SC). I did NW last year, but I didn't finish unfortunately. I blame it on the Thanksgiving vacation. This year though, will be different!
Hello to everyone; we should get together!

Does anyone know if our area has an ML?
Because I definitely applied, being the English nerd that I am, and am wondering when they'll get back to me.

Hey! I'm actually not in Athens. I'm a student at NGCSU in Dahlonega, but Athens was the closest region I could pick. This is my first year writing for NaNoWriMo, but I can't wait to get started!

I am an Athenian and I discovered NaNoWriMo last year about 2 days before the deadline, so this will be my first year participating. I've been thinking about and planning this for the past month. lol.
Anyone else have a general idea of what they want to write?
Does anyone want to set up meetings in town sometime in November?

It's good to see so many folks here this year. I've got a couple of ideas brewing in my head, one of which just hit me at work today. Looking forward to the manic chaos that is November.

I participated last year from Winder, but work forced me to abandon any free writing time I might have by the middle of the month. This year, however, I am master of my own writing destiny! In any case, you'll probably find me writing at the Starbucks on the Westside of Loop 10 (where I work part time).

Hello!
This is going to be my first year doing this... I heard about it last November, and didn't think, at that point, that I could catch up. So, despite the fact that I am already busy, I can't wait for it to start. Even if it means getting a coffee/energy drink IV, I am damn well going to hit 50,000!
I've got 2 or 3 main ideas for what to write in mind, and a number of smaller ones that fit with one or more of the possibilities. I can't wait to get started!

Slave Belle Morte (and anyone else, really): For those of y'all familiar with UGA, I was thinking of holding a few late night write-ins at the SLC. Unfortunately, the SLC is only open until 7 on November 1st. Myers Quad--on south campus--is active all hours of the night, so that's always a serene place for a get together. I'm definitely open to write-ins with whoever...I was kind of isolated from the community last year, being a senior in high school.

I wouldn't have thought to meet on the Myers quad, but that's a good idea. And the SLC is actually closed Nov. 1st for fall break. I'm assuming it reopens on a normal schedule the 2nd, because only the 1st is mentioned on the website, but it looks like our options for having a write-in on the 1st on campus are limited to somewhere outside. :(

I was in isolation land last year too (stupid high school). The Meyers Quad is always a good place to just chill or whatever, although the SLC or possibly the Tate Center might be better for people who are on laptops and battery dependent (I know my laptop doesn't have the best battery life....) Is the Tate Center even open on the 1st?

And then there's outside of Park Hall...aside from being appropriate because it's the English building, I've always found the ambiance is nice. If anyone wants to meet actually inside the Myers dorm--their lounge, I mean, it's HUGE and has plenty of outlets--let me know. As long as we all *look* like students, I think they'll let it slide. But I think it'd be a good idea to get a count of how many people might show, to pass it on to my RA.

Are there any suggestions for folks who aren't students? I'm afraid I'm a local. An old local. I suppose there's always the standby coffee shops. But then the choices are downtown, east side or west side.

I'd probably show up to something (assuming no prior commitments, of course) on campus or downtown... but other than that, I do not own a car so my transportation is limited to walking distance, buses, and catching a ride from roommates when I can.

If anyone knows how late the Starbucks near the Arches is open, that might be a happy medium. The only other 24 hour places that come to mind are Waffle Houses and The Grill (neither of which seem like conducive writing atmospheres). Any students on here PM me though, if you can meet on campus. I'll be putting up flyers in Park Hall/my second home soon. :)

Welcome to all the first timers and welcome back to a couple of familiar names. Work is going to be crazy starting in a couple of weeks, but I'm looking forward to this years NaNo (my 3rd official participation). I want to start by wishing everyone good luck and good writing ... I'm looking forward to noveling with you all next month.
Edit - Question ... is anyone else not having their signature show up on their posts?

I'm pretty sure we don't have an ML, so if anyone wanted to do that, that would be great. As for write-ins, are there any good coffeeshops in the area? I don't really drink coffee, so I wouldn't know, but they always seem like good enviornments for writing.

Not really a Athenian and for sure not a local.
November has always be a busy month for me. Last year I wrote during 1 week in Athens and the rest of the month in Milano (Italy). This year, I will start writing the second week in Athens. I hope I will able to join write-ins but not owning a car limits my mobility (I live close to 5 points).
Anyway, happy to be here and looking forward to meet you.

Hello!
Well I'm new to it all but I am excited to be able to participate. I live on the East side but as my wife is the one going to school at UGA, I'm not very familiar with the area. What are meetings for bye-the-way? Any hoo, Good luck and have fun!

Hello,
Girlfriend of antilles128 finally popping in to say hello. He's mentioned it to me a couple times and I'm finally getting around to it. I participated last year from all the way out in California, unfortunately due to a death in the family, a serious illness, and midterms, I came rather far under completing it. However, I'm hopeful for this year, since my boyfriend won't be doing anything more interesting to distract me either. He'll be writing too!

Quite a few hours late, but I'm here and I've been writing since about 2AM(I had some other business to take care of beforehand). I don't actually live in Athens, but it's the closest region to where I do live. I'm usually awake between 5:30 or 6:00PM to 8:00 or 9:00AM if anyone needs/wants to talk. My sister joined, too, but she hasn't been up to write. She can usually crank out more words quicker than I can, anyways. I've set myself a goal of at least 1,000 words per day, But that might be too easy(I'm a first-timer, you can tell). As long as I feel I've got my story down and I stay diligent with my daily goal, I'll be happy with myself whether I reach 50,000 or not.
Anyways, hi everyone and sorry about the disorganized rambling. It's something I tend to do.

Another first year. Hello, hello!
So...I pretty much suck at this: I've written less than 300 words thus far. How do you guys type 1000+ words per day? I'm envious!

Hey. I'm another first-year. I've been trying to write other stories on my own time, but they never developed. I just started writing today, and the story took off. I completely forgot about NaNoWriMo until this morning, so I immediately joined. I've lived around Athens for my whole life. I was born in St. Mary's. It should be cool to meet up with some of you other NaNoWriters. I live up around North Campus. If we ever meet up in a coffee shop, I frequent Espresso Royale Cafe, fyi.
I look forward to meeting some of you. I joined the facebook groups. Feel free to talk to me if you see me around, in person or on facebook.
Good luck with all the writing that lies ahead, and soon enough, behind us.

My advice is to think about it a lot. I've been thinking through my plot and character's heads at all possible times (in the shower, driving my car, doing dishes etc). That way when I sit down to write all I'm doing is putting down what I already have thought through. I'm doing about 750-1000 words an hour right now, typing it out.

Hi! This is my first NaNoWriMo. I attended a kickoff in Greenville, SC, over the weekend, but I'm back home in Athens now and wondering if there's an ML or at least an informal group leader to manage write-ins, get-togethers, sit-ins, séances, whatever there might be.
My handle is daft, and it's a long story. I'm Ron, y'all.

Hey Ron!
So we have two amazing ML's loveandviolets (Ashley) and Anthropo (Phillip).
We are having our next activity wednesday, I believe they'll be sending out information and details on that soon, but it's going to be a V for Vendetta screening and then a write in (in honor of the 5th of November).
And I believe the plan is to have a write in every sunday as well, though I'm not sure where yet.

Hello Everyone,
This is my first year doing this too, and it's a lot of fun but hard work! I live in Barrow County, and I write while my little boy is sleeping. Good luck to everyone!

Underwaterlily: Just between you and me... don't fret about word counts. There seems to be a lot to get out of this experience, and 50,000 words is probably the least valuable of the things I've run across so far.

Hi friends!
I'm Tori.
I'm almost done at UGA.
I work at Campus Transit. Maybe I've driven you to class?
I just had a babeh. She's the cutest thing in the world.
And this is my first year participating in NaNoWriMo!
EEE!
i'm so excited!
But I'm too shy for write-ins, so I'll probably never come. But if you see me driving a bus, introduce yourself! I have very bright pink hair. :D
