My husband works from home here in the museum district of Fort Worth because the company's regional office is in McKinney.

Just too far to drive on a daily basis!

I've lived here all my life and never been to McKinney. Of course, I daresay quite a few people in McKinney have never set foot in Fort Worth, so there one is. ;^)

I am! Right in the middle, just a mile from the square. And boy was I lonely last year. Not sure if I'm actually going to do it again this year because of my schedule, but I'm keeping an open mind, at least until the last minute!

Plano here. I like the idea of a weekly coffee house thing - maybe Fusion Cafe in downtown Plano?

I'm in McKinney.

I'm still undecided about participation. Never done NaNoWriMo. I did Screnzy this year and loved it. Kind of concerned with the timing of Thanksgiving. Need to decide how anti-social I'll look to the family if i am sneaking off to finish pages.

I just moved to McKinney in July. Besides that, this will be my first Nano. I'm determined to finish. At least, I am right now.

Might not be able to make it every week, but I've not yet been to Plano yet. I hear it's a neato place, though, and I would like to try some tea at this Fusion Cafe. Is it a popular place?

I'm over south of Princeton, near Lake Lavon. This is my first NaNo.

What is everyone writing? What genre?

I'm writing an Urban Fantasy. You know, vampires, werewolves and witches (oh my). I estimate it will be a 100k novel when complete. I'm pretty confident I can make the 50k wordcount for NaNo in a month. I'm a fast writer. Of course, with Thanksgiving and everything....

I'm in North Plano. :) I'm not sure about how many write-ins I'll go to, but I'll try. I like the Chipotle at McDermott and 75 if anyone's interested in a write-in there.

Far North (Almost Allen) Plano here, as long as it's interesting, count me in. This'll be the first NaNo of my participation, so... yeah. No idea what to expect, bring, et cetera.

... to answer the question of the original poster I'm near-ish to McKinney.

I'm in a small town NE of McKinney. I'm there regularly for shopping, church, etc. It would be great to hook up with some folks because no one outside my family did NaNo here last year.

Has anyone been to the Coffee N Cream in downtown McKinney? Looks good on their website and I've driven past their outside wall mural dozens of times and thought about stopping in. I just always seem to be passing it on the way to the library.

Coffee N Cream's Website

Looks like they are only open until 7pm Mon-Thur and then 10pm on Fri & Sat. Would anyone want to try for an early afternoon/evening write-in sometime? Fridays and Saturdays would be tough for me but I might could swing it.

i'm still hopeful to be back in the States for the second half of nano this year (don't you just love immigration leprechauns and the credit crunch?) and if so, and in possession of a vehicle i'll be happy to do McKinney. we're smack bang in the middle between Allen and McKinney, so anywhere around is fine by me. of course, if i can't make it, please feel free to join me at Lattes and Literature in Breda, the Netherlands. (mind you, it's a bit of a trip, so bring an extra battery or pen for on the plane!)

I'm within walking distance of the square in McKinney. This is my first Nano; am hoping I have the stamina to finish. A "write in" sounds interesting; is there actual writing involved or do we just consume yummy edible/drinkable substances?

I've never been to an actual write-in. I'm guessing that we sit around pretending to get writing done, but mostly visit with like minded people while consuming yummy edibles.

I'm hoping to take my laptop on the road and do some actual writing at some point. I have a feeling it would help feed my creativity if I would occasionally get out of my wreck of an office. Too much clutter sometimes creates chaos in my head. I get very distracted when I look around thinking I should straighten up.

I've been busy taking advantage of the Soundtrack Forum to get some new music that I can write to.

The purpose of a write-in is to *write*... but that does not always happen. (However, I have been to some write-ins where the participants were very focused and wrote insanely, with barely a peep.)

You write, you chat, you support local establishments and tip your waitstaff generously, you share ideas, you engage in word wars, you comiserate with fellow Wrimos, you challenge each other to write longer, faster, better; you have tons of fun. :)

well, godpantsminus, mine relates to a certain famous animated skunk....
my first thought association was "sisterhood of the traveling pants", but no, I think not.
um..... Got Off De Plane And Never Told Seth My Insane Nietsche Uber Story?
dang! guess I can kiss that $5 goodbye.

I like that idea of supporting local establishments and tipping the waitstaff generously. Supporting our local economy while churning out ideas. I just read that the second week is the hardest one to get through; would that be an appropriate time for a write in?

Every week is a good week for a write-in!

Some people set weekly meetings (I'll be at such-and-such place every Tuesday in November from 6-8), others just post when they'll be out in public and invite anyone in the area to join them. Weekly meetings are fun because you get to know the other writers in your area, and you chat about your novels, how they're progressing, etc.

My sister and I live less than three blocks from the Hulen Street Barnes and Noble, so we could be there with our laptops just about every night. More precisely, I should say that we could be there just about ANY night. If anyone's gonna be there, give a holler here in the forums, and I'll probably see it and drag us over there, too. :-) I don't know yet if we plan on any particular, dedicated, 'write-out' write-in nights over there, but we could be there in minutes if anyone else has plans for the place. 8-)

After having been living in McKinney for 2 1/2 years, it's hard to believe I have never been in any of the shops downtown. My husband and I have circled the square more times than I care to mention. And we've even gone down there late night after everything is closed and walked the streets to window shop. Just never managed to get there during business hours to browse.

Today after a month of wrestling with the insurance company we finally gave up and bought a car with no down payment. Now we don't have to stress as the insurance company takes their sweet time. The important part of that is that I am mobile again. Have wheels, can travel.

I circled the square again on my way to the library tonight. I meant to check out the coffee shop after and then completely forgot about it. There was a sign that said "Left lane for Downtown Valet Parking, Right lane through traffic" but I didn't actually see anyone valeting (is that a word?) Has anyone valeted in downtown?

This weekend I'm going to get my husband to come with me to scout locations. I'm going to try out the downtown Coffee N Cream and there is a coffee shop behind the Braum's at 75 & University that has "free Wi-Fi" stenciled on their window. I just can't remember their name right now. I don't really drink coffee (love the smell, hate the taste) and so normally don't pay attention to the coffee shops. I'll post my findings here.

I've seen them do it on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights for Rick's Chop House. That's really the only time. They've been taking up that left lane a lot lately during the day because they're adding on to the building and the construction vehicles are always there. I work right off the square in the Collin County Gov't Center, and I'll be glad when I can go all the way down to Kentucky and turn right to get there rather than always turning early to avoid the trucks.

I know both coffee places you're talking about but I've never been in either one. I actually hate the smell AND the taste. I know, I'm a freak. I get my caffeine from Coca-Cola. Man, if they had such a thing as a Mexican Coke bar I'd probably live there!

Hmm, business idea... a soft drink bar that sells soft drinks with real sugar in them! And free wi-fi of course.

I live in McKinney, work in Plano for now. Not sure if I'm going to be able to do this, but I'd like to. I'm starting a new job on 11/3, so I might need to focus on that for a bit, but we'll see. I'd love to meet some more crazy writer types, so count me in for anytime you find a time and place to meet.

I like coffee, but it's not an absolute necessity for me. A bookstore might be an option (don't most of them have mini cafes?). There's a Half Price Books near 75 & El Dorado; maybe there is a new bookstore over on the west side of McKinney? If there are Plano/Allen folks, maybe a happy medium would be the Borders at 75 & Bethany?

Fri. & Sat. is best for me, but I might be able to do a different day.

rebymecca, there used to be a tobacco shop in the Bishop Arts area of Oak Cliff (Dallas) that had a huge variety of regional and international sodas in a big cooler. Don't know about the wi-fi or even if they're still around.
