Hey folks. I'm new around here. They tell me Carthage is nearby (I'm in joplin), so I suppose I'll be joining you all this year. I look forward to meeting and writing with you!

Of course you are welcome! Joplin is only a half hour away. Welcome to the Carthage thread. We are very friendly people. =D

Excellence. Are there any good coffee shops in Carthage? There aren't in Joplin... 9_9
Grr. I can't wait until November! I want to write this stupid story down!

I'm also in Joplin, it's cool to find NaNo writers in the area! I thought I joined and posted the other day... but apparently not.
I'm plotting out my idea and crossing my fingers that it turns into 50k like it's supposed to. I have a few scenes that I want to write down, but I'm behaving.
Are there any plans to get together during November?

We do have a rather nice coffee shop called Caffix Coffee. If you need help finding it just PM me and I will help out.
Yes we do have plans on meeting actually. We are probably going to be meeting on Saturdays at Caffix Coffee. That is what we have typically done in the past. It really depends on what everybody's schedules are like and such though. For instance, I wouldn't be at the first meeting if we had it on Saturday because I have a show choir competition.
There are quite a few of us from Carthage that are in the musical at the high school though, so we might end up doing extra meetings sometimes, I am not sure. We are probably going to have to work meetings around musical practices/performances because there are quite a few of us in it, including me. And I like being involved in everything even though I can't technically ML yet.
Maybe it could be possible for us to have a Kick-Off type party on Halloween if anybody is interested? I don't know what everybody's plans are. We could just work on planning and discuss different writerly/NaNo-y things. Let me know...

I'm off on Halloween. That'd be a good time to get together for me. You'd have to give me directions. The only place I can find in Carthage besides the court house is the scrapbook store.
Regular meetings would be good. The only Saturday evenings I have off are Nov 1st and 8th. I work a 4 on 4 off schedule 5pm to 5am, so that makes my life a little crazy. Crazier... Too bad NaNo isn't in December, I have 3 out of 4 Saturday's off. Figures.
I'd be happy just to get together with fellow NaNo writers, it's nice to know that there's other writers in the area. I sometimes feel like the only writer in the state. I write fanfic so I usually get this look like I'm a crazy person who needs a life.
Dragonwriterhp, I bet you know a friend of my daughter's who's in show choir at WCHS. Chris Layton. I think he's a senior this year.

All right, I will make sure to send you some directions.
After the first we are most likely going to have meetings during the days on Saturdays if that helps at all. The musical people are going to be having practices and performances from 5:30 to whenever for three weeks. I don't know if you would be interested in coming during the day since you work nights...
It is really nice to know. A good group of people are getting together this year for NaNo. Most of them haven't posted in here yet, but I see them at school and we are getting quite a group. I am just really glad that we are pulling in people from Joplin. We haven't really done that the past two years that I have done NaNo. It really is too bad that I am too young to ML... LOL. I am basically doing it already.
What group is her friend in? I might know him somehow...

I'll be trying to get folks to Turkey Treat for Halloween.
In my home region, we have a tradition of a first-minute write in. We get together at Denny's around 11pm on Halloween (in costume, of course!) and then at the first stroke of midnight, the very first moment of November, start writing furiously. It's always great fun, and there's usually good productivity.
I'd be willing to help organize things if enough people are up for it. I was an unofficial ML-in-training last November, and I ML'd Script Frenzy in the South Bay in April. I figured I wouldn't do it this year since I'm trying to limit my responsibilities being at uni and all. But I can help out however's needed!

Well I was planning for it to be after trick-or-treating times. I am having to go trick-or-treating with my little brother and sister so I would probably show up in my Halloween costume.
I love the idea but I am not sure if I would be able to do it. Others might be able to, but it really depends on what time I have to get up to go to my show choir competition in Webb City if I would be able to.
I will let you know if I need help. I usually have things under control, but the past two years there haven't been this many people participating in the area so I might need help. I am not sure though. I really appreciate the offer though.

Chris is in show choir and concert choir, and pretty much every choir Webb City has except the girl's group. He's a heck of a singer. He's very outgoing and flamboyant.
It would depend on what time you wanted to meet. On the days I work, I have to be there by 5pm. The 14th I'll be in Carthage at a scrapbook crop weekend, so I can always drop by that day.
It sounds like I may be the oldest one of the group! But I don't care if you guys don't. You'll have to tell me what an ML does, I'm new to NaNo. Funny thing is, ML is the initials for my pen name. lol
I'm off on Halloween so meeting late that day isn't a problem for me. There's always IHOP if it's really late.

I probably know him, or at least would recognize him. I will keep an eye out for him on the first at the competition in Webb City.
We would probably be meeting sometime between noon and two. I am not sure when but after the first a lot of us have musical practices/performance at 5:30 until the last weekend of the month. I just don't know when you will be sleeping and such.
Yeah, it does sound like you are the oldest of the group, especially when you take into account that most of us are high school students. ML stands for Municipal Liason and basically what they do is work with the site moderating the board for their region and put together the write-ins and TGIO parties and Kick-Off parties. In essence they just encourage the other people of their region and such.
Okay, so Halloween isn't a problem for you... I really need to get the others in this thread from school. I will tell them to come post in here today.

Except for the costume, I think that sounds like a fun idea! I'm up all night due to my schedule so midnight is no problem. Then if we meet in the afternoon on the 1st we can see how we've done getting started, too. Encouragement is an important part of writing.

Nother Carthage Tiger here! I plan on joining in again! So are we planning on meeting on Halloween?? Would the meetings at Caffix be every Saturday?? Ya, we would miss it due to show choir. That sucks! I plan to come to the meetings unlike previous years.

I don't know if we are planning on meeting on Halloween. It turns out that the lady that worked at Caffix had her baby so they have changed their hours and are only open until eight instead of eleven. The normal Saturday meetings will still be there because of the musical, having practices at night, but I am not sure about Halloween. Anybody have any suggestions?
Glad to have you back by the way, and it is going to be nice to see you at write-ins. We can have our own little thing of writing at the competition. There are three girls other than us two that are doing NaNo from Suite Sounds. So we will be good. It will be easier to focus on writing with the encouragement of others I think. I failed at trying to write at the competition last year but if others are doing it as well I think that we will be able to write.

The only places I know that are open late are IHOP -- which has fantastic pumpkin pancakes right now -- and Denny's. Oh, I forgot, Hardee's on Rangeline here in Joplin is open 24/7 and has wifi. I'm not familiar with Carthage, but gimme directions and I'll get there.

Ya, I don't think I would be able to concentrate at the competition. From what I've seen, their seems to be a lot of comotion. And plus it wouldnt be safe to bring my laptop and i hate writing just on paper. Gatta love my computer. lol. I don't think many places are open late in Carthage. I don't know any! Ya....I knew she had the baby. I just didnt know the hours changed. I havent been there in over a year.

We will see. There is a lot of commotion but we will just have to see. Yeah, I would not recommend taking your laptop. Just don't do it. Not a good idea at all. I don't know of things getting stolen, but I do know of a lot of things getting lost and misplaced and such.

My daughter lost a pillow and blanket at debate event, so I wouldn't recommend bringing a laptop. Not unless you're coming in your own car and can lock it in the trunk.
I use paper sometimes and a computer sometimes. Depends on where I am and my mood. :)

I'm probably just being a nerd, but I've been jotting down notes on my phone whenever I'm not near my computer. And my phone has a notepad tool with 1000 characters of memory per note, so I plan to use that extensively in classes where laptops are disallowed.

I have thought about doing the phone thing, but I am much more comfortable with writing with a pen and a notebook so that is what I am going to do. Besides, I am still in high school so the teachers have a tendency of yelling at us when we have our phones out during class.

Ya, it sucks dosent it! We should be allowed to use our phones!!

I see the reasons why we should not be allowed to use our phones, but I also see why we should be allowed to use our phones. It is not really a big deal for me though because I have a sucky phone so it wouldn't matter to me if I were allowed to use it or not.

I still use it anyways! lol. And so does everyone else!
50,072 / 50,000

Yeah, everybody does anyway. Just like I use my iPod in Journalism even though we aren't supposed to have them out in class. Mrs. Webb was always nice and let us use ours in her class. I loved having her as a teacher.

Luckily, I only have to worry about what I can do at work. lol
I usually open a Word document and write when I can. Or if bigwigs are lurking, I'll get my spiral out, then they have no clue what I'm doing. That's what I did back in the day when I was in school. Teachers see you writing, they assume you're taking notes or doing homework.

Yeah, that is what I do at school. I will always have a notebook to write in whenever I can. I also write and e-mail it to myself if I am in a class where we are using a computer.

I found out my phone can record. So sometimes in the car if an idea pops into my head I turn on the recorder and dictate into my phone. It's kind of cool. Plus... people don't realize I'm talking to myself. lol

Thats pretty cool! I think my phone can record memos or something. Usuallu I just use a notebook in class too. Except i one got in trouble for just writing when we were suppose to listen to the teacher.
