Anybody from the S. Oregon coast out there?

I'm in North Bend. This is my first year to try NaNo. (GASP!) I can't believe I just signed up. I have a VERY pushy internal editor who is screaming in my ear right now. "NOOOO! How could you DO this to me?"

Would love to hear from others from this area. Will there be any local NaNo events this year?

(BTW- I assume they must have reset the forums? I had looked a while back and saw posts s. coasters' had made in previous years, but when I came back today they were gone.)

Hi Shelley,

I'm also from North Bend, and this is my second NanoWriMo. I didn't make 50K last year, but this is a whole new year!

Do you have ideas on what your novel will be? I have no clue, but I want to figure it out before Nov. 1st.

Hi Alicia!

Nice to "meet" you! I do have some ideas for both plot and characters, but am going to do some outlining in this next month. I have this fear of starting out great, and then running out of things to say, LOL!

Did you go to any local events last year? I hope there will be some this year.

Good luck!

I didn't go to any events, I only remember there being one, though. Hopefully our liaison will have something for us to get together this year.

Coos Bay here! This is my second year. last year everyone bailed on me so I am hoping to help inspire everyone else. I made it by writing a minimum amount of words a day and never re-reading. Frankly the editor never got to finish the book and that's the only way I made it!

I'll be out of the area for the official kick off but my laptop will be with me.

Looking forward to chatting frequently.

Cool! There are at least three of us, now!

Do either of you know who our local liason is?

I think, like you mentioned, Carol, if I'm to have any hope of finishing I can never let my internal editor get a chance to read what I've written at any time in November. --If I do, I just know she'll take over and I'll end the month with a very nicely edited chapter or two and be nowhere near 50k! ;-)

I would think (hope) that there are other local nuts er, writers who will also embark on this adventure. But, even if it's only 3 of us from this area, maybe we could bring our laptops along and meet for coffee somewhere, some time in Nov. :-)

The ML would be me, Jessica aka mavericklearner of North Bend and Colette's. Howdy. Getting the word out and gathering in all would be novelists. Welcome aboard.

Hi Carol and Jessica, hope to attend a write-in this year or some event. I could seriously use the support to reach that 50K goal. Four of us so far, yay!

I'm near Tillamook so not really south Oregon Coast....but coast nonetheless...I did NaNoWriMo in 2006 and I've been thinking about my 2008 story but haven't gotten anything solid yet...

Hi again, everyone! Alicia...Carol...Jessica (any events lined up for us locally, yet?)...Sierra...Den...Angel...and "Kojoro"!!!

Hope I didn't miss anyone. If so, Hi to you, too! :-)

I'm getting really excited for Nov. 1 to get here! I'm working on a lot of outlining and character sketches, etc... Partly to keep me busy with novel-related stuff (while I'm "itching" to start the actual writing!) And also partly 'cause I have this fear of starting out great and then running out of things to "say", LOL!

I'm also looking forward to possibly meeting some of you at local events.

Good Luck, all!

Hello, everyone! I'm from Coos Bay, too! I'm surprised there are as many of us as there are, lol. I hope we have some good events this year, as it's my first time joining. I had to bind and gag my internal editor and shove her in a closet in order to do so, but I made it!

I'm looking forward to some great chats with this group- looks like it'll be a fun one!

Cheers!

Welcome, Rhiana! I know what you mean about those internal (infernal? ;-)) editors! Mine's having a fit, too, LOL!

I'm really looking forward to getting started! I've written out loads on an outline, since that's the only "legal" thing we can do until Nov. 1. :-)

Hopefully, we'll hear something about some local events soon.

Wow, a bunch this year! Last year there weren't a whole lot of us. I didn't hear anything about events after the first push and it was a little depressing. Eh well. I finished, and I'm proud of myself... so I'm insanely going to try again this year. I live in Portland at the moment, but will be down in Coos Bay this weekend for a halloween party and to visit my parents for a bit... so if anything's happening, I'd like to be there. :) (My mum is also going to do it again this year, rockie7777.)

With only a few days left before Nov. 1st, I'm a little anxious to know if there are any kickoffs happening here. I remember last year there was something on Halloween. I have to take my son trick-or-treating, but since it's Friday night, I could always do something at midnight. I plan to start then anyway. Or, if that's too late, I can come probably any weekday evening, or weekend day or evening.

Hope everyone's ready! I'm not, but I will be. I'm getting caught up on school work, pesky chores, etc. so I can clear my mind a day or two before Nov. 1st and figure out my story.

So I am off on a weeks vacation so I won't even get started for real until the 10th!!! Am I crazy! yes, yes I am. Woo Hoo. Looking forward to all this coastal support.

Still haven't heard anything on any "official" events through our ML. (Are you out there, Jessica?)

I emailed her individually at the address she listed in the post above, the other day, too. I hope she's not ill, or anything.

Anyway, hopefully we'll hear something soon, but if not, what do you guys think about arranging something to get together on our own? Any suggestions for a place (restaurant or coffee shop)? When would be a good time? Late on 10/31 and start typing away at midnight? Or sometime the next day? Or get going on our own and meet later in Nov?

This is my first year, so I don't have any preferences, and am open to whatever others would like to do!

Thanks for posting the information, Shelley, I didn't get the email - maybe because I posted before that I can't make any early events on Halloween. : (

I hope we can all get together for a couple of write-ins at least. Maybe on the weekends? I have my old, slow notebook computer which isn't good for much except noveling!

Good luck, everyone! I love your banner, Shelley.

I posted this on the "Oregon South Coast" region's forum in answer to a post there. As I noted below, I don't think all of us were even aware that a S. Coast region was listed, later and/or didn't change our "home region" to that one. Anyway, in case you didn't here it is:

-------------

I think there was some confusion about the regions. I know that when I first joined there was no South Coast listed, so I signed up as "Elsewhere" for my home region. And there wasn't good communication / an announcement when the S. Coast list did get posted, so I didn't even realize it was there for a while. I think probably this held true for others as well.

I'm disappointed that there weren't any write-ins or other get-togethers. One of the reasons I wanted to do NaNo was to get to know other local writers. Oh, well...maybe next year there will be more in local activities.

If anyone wants to email me directly my email is kahoosbt@aol.com.

I'll post this on the Elsewhere list, too.

Congrats to everyone who participated! Even if your little NaNo indicator bar didn't turn purple, you've made progress on that novel! To even get started on it is something most people never "get around to" so cheers for all!!!

Hi Gang,
Just thought I'd post this from the South Coast too.
I wrote:

I don't know how I finally learned there was a South Coast. Maybe next year we can get together. It was a great experience overall. A lot of fun trying to figure out where everyone was, but still have no idea who was in the Region, or how we almost got 200,000 words. It was fun seeing everyone (who I could tell was SC) plugging along, whether they got the 50K or not.
Congrats to everyone from me too.
