It's going to be one of those places I never grow out of. So while I may not be here physically, I'll be on the boards here (if that's okay) because seriously the lack of Nano stuff in Anacortes/Islands is insane. Plus Diann and Sarah are awesome MLs so I couldn't just turn my back.

What's your name: Rachael. With an extra ‘a.’
What's the origin of your NaNo name? It’s my dog’s name. Yarly. I’m that boring. It also happens to be a shoe-brand, but I didn’t know that until long after I picked the name.
Have you done NaNo before? If yes, how many times? And how many times did you win? Nope, never done it before. This is my first year. I would say I fear for my sanity, but then, that would imply that I had some to begin with. : )
What genre are you writing this year? Fantasy of some sort? Looks kinda like dark/urban fantasy from this angle, but we’ll see. Who knows? I may end up doing comedy. >>;
Who's your favorite author (just one please - I know it's tough to pick)? Uh, um, er…well…um, I'll just go with Neil Gaiman. This week, anyway.
What's your favorite genre to read? Fantasy. Sci-fi’s started looking pretty good lately too. I also like historical fiction. Fantasy’s still deffo my top pick, though.
What's the name of your main character this year? Actually, just changed my mind on this. XD Due to a serious lack of plotsy goodness for the first story, I'm actually shelving it and picking up another that I was working on last year and totally forgot about. >> There's like, twenty-some-odd characters in this one, so there's no real main character, but the two most prominent are the Perrin brothers. And there some heavy renaming going on at the moment, so their names are probably going to change.

What's your name:
Anita
What's the origin of your NaNo name?
It's a German variation of my first and middle names [fortunately, the English/Scotts side of my family's sensibilities prevailed... Although I like it now, I'm not sure it would've been suitable for a preschooler].
Have you done NaNo before? If yes, how many times? And how many times did you win?
I've done NaNo 3 times before. The first year, I was totally unprepared and didn't come close although I did get the book, a nice poster, and t-shirt. Then in 2006, I entered and won. Last year, I entered and got a head injury (no, not directly related to NaNo-ing) so had to pack in any writing. This year I'm planning on winning AND I'm getting a poster -- the best of both worlds.
What genre are you writing this year?
Mystery
Who's your favorite author (just one please - I know it's tough to pick)?
Martha Grimes [I've re-read her mysteries the most]
What's your favorite genre to read?

Margretta

My goals for October include outlining my characters & plot -- and de-drecking the house by going through 24+ boxes of family Stuff (which may end up being some story fodder).

What's your name: Jennifer
What's the origin of your NaNo name?: I'm a fangirl and I love writers--and, in some cases, I am a fangirl for writers. I also am a writer who is a fangirl. So Writerfangirl works two ways. :)
Have you done NaNo before? If yes, how many times? And how many times did you win?: Officially, three times. Unofficially, five times. I've won twice: 2005 and 2006.
What genre are you writing this year?: Urban Fantasy, comic book influenced. Somewhere in that mix. I love the Heroes universe and think I may play there.
Who's your favorite author (just one please - I know it's tough to pick)?: That really depends upon the mood. Kind of depends on the genre, too. But one of the writers who has had the most impact on me is Ralph Wahlstrom. He wrote The Tao of Writing. It's a beautiful piece on writing and very encouraging to doubtful writers. :) Check it out.
What's your favorite genre to read?: Urban fantasy and non-fictional books about writing. <3
What's the name of your main character this year?: As of this moment? No idea. *L* I'll get back to you on that. Something Biblical, I think. Definitely something crucial to the character and to the sort of plot line she's in.
What's something we wouldn't guess about you just by looking?: Difficult to say. I feel like I'm an open book. While the fact that I'm a giggly, bouncy fangirl is self-explanatory, Perhaps how I can be, and, am a lot of the time, quite serious isn't.
What food or beverage will you count on to get your through November?: Teas. Earl Grey. I'd also like to see if I can find some good ones with raspberries or strawberries. And coffee. And Jack in the Box's Kona shakes.
Anything else you'd like to share?: I'm really looking forward to getting to writing online and in my journals and discussing the process, the passion, talking foibles, getting silly, getting serious, and ultimately having a lot of fun, with you guys and other writing buddies.

Yes, this will be year 6. I've only won once, but here's hoping for a year 2 this year!

Does "Super Hero" count as a genre?

J.R.R. Tolkien
What's your favorite genre to read?
I've been finding some really great gems in Young Adult lit lately.
What's the name of your main character this year?
John St. Divine
What's something we wouldn't guess about you just by looking?
People don't expect me to be a writer I guess. Though I don't really know what a writer is supposed to look like.
What food or beverage will you count on to get your through November?
Coke Zero, Sailor Jerry Rum, and Goldfish crackers [original flavor please].
Anything else you'd like to share?
I'm really excited for this year because I'm totally not worrying about it, and I'm just going to muscle through. Though I guess I'm also a little terrified because I have only a loose plot and some vague character ideas. But I guess that's one of the charms of this competition, right?

What food or beverage will you count on to get your through November? Coffee, Tea, Water. Chocolate, Pasta, Chips and Dips and Salsa.
Anything else you'd like to share? I don't have high-speed internet. I live in an area that doesn't get cable or DSL, and I've been too cheap to pay for satellite. Think I'll change that situation next year. My son moved to L.A. this year so I'm going through an empty-nest-mid-life-thing.
