Hello Shenandoah Valley Wrimos,

We are looking for at least one special Wrimo to become an official
Point-of-Contact (POC) for the mid to southern area of the Shenandoah
Valley. I am thinking of someone in the Greater Harrisonburg area
including JMU, Bridgewater, Staunton and Waynesboro. If we have enough
interest we might want to consider an additional POC for the
Lexington/Roanoke area as well.

Who we are looking for:
Someone 18 years or older.
It would be great if you have done NaNoWriMo before but not required.
Someone fun and outgoing.
Willingness to meet new people and provide support and encouragement
for your fellow local Wrimos.

What we would like you to do:
Commit to at least one scheduled write-in per week.
You pick the date, time and the location (Borders, Starbucks, Local
Library wherever).
Post a note to the forums to introduce yourself and advertise your
Write-ins.
Monitor your post and say hello to your new friends.

What we will do for you:
Include your Write-ins on the Official Shenandoah Valley Calendar of
Events.
Help advertise your write-ins with forum posts and emails.
Create a post in the forums to brag about you.
Brag to the other regions how we have the best POC in the country.
Shower you with praise, admiration and special NaNoWrimo stickers not
available to just anyone.

Your rewards:
You get to feel special!
If the region ever splits you will be the first person considered for
the ML position.
You will meet new and fantastic people just like you.

If you are interested in this fabulous position, please respond to this
post or send me a NaNoMail. Looking forward to hearing
from you.

Susan
Your Friendly Co-ML

hey there!

I would be interested in doing this, but it all depends on whether or not we can find a place in the area that would be large enough to use. Books-A-Million just moved from Staunton to Waynesboro, and they have a much bigger store, and we could look at doing things there if they are agreeable. What do you think?

Also, there was a lot of discussion before the forums were wiped about having a headquarters in Charlottesville. Is that a better idea? There is a place there that some people were already looking at for write-ins.

So just let me know which way would be the better way to go. I'll help out in any way that I can.

Thanks!

Nonny

Hi Nonny Mouse!

Thank you so much for your reply! We are really hoping to get things set in motion for our region by having POCs in place by early to mid-October. To do that we need POCs for the three main areas of the Shenandoah Valley which extends from Winchester to Roanoke along the I-81 corridor . We have coverage in the Winchester/Front Royal area. We are looking for at least one POC in the Harrisonburg area and one for the Lexington/Roanoke area. Are you located in one of those areas?

As far as write-in and meet-up locations go, almost anyplace will do! Of course it does depend on the size of your group and if you require such things as wireless internet or caffeine and chocolate. Up North we have found that our local library has rooms we can reserve and places like Borders, Books-A-Million, Panera and Starbucks are available without reservations. If your group is a large one with ten or more, you might want to speak with management to let them know what you are doing. They are usually familiar NaNoWriMo and if not we have some information for you to print out and run by management for approval. Many people like to meet at their favorite local coffee shops and diners to support their communities. I am sure if you are creative you won't have to travel far to find some good writing spots. We have one planned for November in the Strasburg Antique Mall!

Let's talk Charlottesville! Even though Charlottesville lies just slightly outside the I-81 corridor, we are happy to include them in our region because I really don't think they have good representation anywhere else. However, if someone is interested in creating a sixth region in Virginia they should check out the following link: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/1003232 Life as an ML can be a bit intimidating at first but you'll get the hang of it! That being said and if all things remain the same, Charlottesville writers have a home in the Shenandoah Valley. So here is the official shout out: if anyone in the Charlottesville area is interested in becoming a Point of Contact please respond to this post or send me a NaNoMail. We are happy to post write-ins and meet-ups on the Shenandoah Valley Events Calendar. You will also be introduced on our forums as an Official POC so that other writers in your local area can get in touch with you directly.

We look forward to hearing back from you Nonny Mouse! Send me a NaNoMail to let us know where you are and tell us a little about yourself and your NaNo experience.

Your Co-ML Susan :)

Hello dressagegirl and welcome back! I love to see familiar Wrimos posting on the forums. How are things going with the FIbromyalgia group and how is life with the horses? I can't wait to hear about your year!

We would love to have you as the POC for Rockbridge County, Buena Vista, and Lexington. Maybe some people from Roanoke or Lynchburg will show up. I know it is a bit far but hey, like Chris Baty says "If you build it, Kevin Costner will come." (I know kind of cheesy but that has become my new slogan this year. My goal is to have so many options for write-ins and meet-ups that everyone in our region has an opportunity to meet new writers and attend at least one write-in. That is my field of dreams.)

So as an official POC your job is to schedule at least one write-in per week during the month of November. You can do this in a nay number of ways. You can post a new thread on the forums announcing the time, date and location of your write-ins or you can post a new thread asking others in your area what time and place is good for them. I would suggest the first option. People can then chime in and say whether or not is good for them. If no one can make it then you can adjust the details to work around everyone's schedules. But if you get one or two people who promise to show then leave it as is and go meet your new writing buddies! At the write-in plan to work with them to tweak your schedule for the rest of the month if necessary. in the unfortunate event that no one is interested in meeting...knock on wood...then you at least get some quiet and hopefully productive writing time at the time and cozy location of your choice.

So send me a NaNoMail and let me know a few more details about yourself and your writing so I can post a proper introduction on your very own thread in the forums. Also, if you would like some amazing NaNoWriMo stickers then send along your mailing address as well. (okay I think they are amazing I haven't actually seen them yet...LaMishia is hoarding them for safe keeping...she is afraid I will start slapping them up all over the Shenandoah Valley and then we won't have any left over for our well-deserving POCs...just kidding LaMishia :)...she already offered me half but I have been too lazy to go get them!) Once I hear from you I will get back to you with our "real" email addresses and phone numbers to contact us with if you need anything.

Thank you so much for volunteering! I am so very excited for November.

Susan (your Co-ML Susieiz)

I am happy to be POC for Charlottesville. I can't do the ML thing because I have not participated before, but I am more than willing to do organizing. So, if someone wants to volunteer to be ML so we can split off, I will do the organizing. I am on the board of WriterHouse, which is willing to provide facilities for group gatherings throughout the month. We just need to figure out what the group wants to do.

Check out the WriterHouse blog for more info: www.writerhouse.org/blogs

I have a horse show this weekend, so I am tied up with it. But, yeah I think this will work out. Probably all my write-ins will take place in Buena Vista, at the library, or some place within the city limits TBA. I can't think of any book store in Lex which has good enough parking, and the space, or sitting for such a write-in.

The Fibro group has grown to include Lyme disease as many of our members have that too. October is our first year anniversary of the group. We have had many interesting speakers. One was an expert in TCM, and he drove down from MD to give a talk.

I'm volunteering to be a POC for the greater Lynchburg area. This includes Forest, Amherst, Madison Heights, etc. I've got some ideas for the area, and hopefully we can drum up a little bit of interest.

Hello angelpalgt,

We would love to have you as a POC for the greater Lynchburg area. Please send me a quick NaNoMail to tell me something about yourself so I can post an introduction on the forums. Then you simply reply to that post with a quick hello to your local Wrimos and start planning your write-ins. I will post the events to the calendar. Thanks so much for volunteering! I look forward to hearing back from you!
